Oh! I saw that you posted about The Thundermans!
There are definitely people still interested (Me for example š)! Can I ask you what do you think about Max? Especially about that "passively suicidal" part, because it's so interesting!
OH MY GODDD THANK YOU FOR ASKING HEHE!! Id love to rant about this :)
My whole theory of max being passively suicidal came after the second episode when he had a self destruct sequence in his room! And for a villain lair that seems pretty normal right? But then you realize, heād have to be INSIDE the room to press the button, but the doors lock too quickly for him to ever get out?
It makes it seem like if he ever decides that what/who is inside the room needs to be destroyed, heās willing to go down with it?
As the show goes on, you see how dangerous his own inventions are, or how he goes to conventions with some of the worst villains (like in the Henry danger crossover) etc, constantly putting his own life at risk. He willingly puts himself into dangerous situations, where death isnāt guaranteed but neither is safety.
Itās like heās standing on a cliff and waiting for a strong wind to sway him one way or the other, he wonāt take that jump but he canāt quiet back up either.
I think Max, having been devalued by his family for years, slowly stopped valuing his own life as well. Sure he has ambitions, but with how easily heās willing to risk his life, it seems like he isnāt fully devoted to reaching them. In his mind, if he dies he dies, and if he doesnāt, he doesnāt. There are moments you see him fearing for his life, but I mainly think itās just the pain heās most afraid ofābecause those situations would usually result in something much more brutal than normal.
And what I mean by devalued by his family is just that heās constantly labeled as a slacker: heās shamed for his grades, for his lack of participation or interest in academic or work-related things, and heās constantly torn down from his dream of being a villain. His family outright makes him out to be less than his siblingsāspecifically Phoebeāand itās only normal he begins to internalize that.
I think he sees himself as less important than others, and tries to mask it with ego. Itās like he thinks If he feigns self importance, maybe one day heāll start to believe it.
