You make this sound easy, Shay thinks, but these words don’t leave his mouth. Maybe for the best. 

Shay appreciates the Grandmaster’s attempt to comfort ( if he could even call it like that? ), but he doubts that he understands his feelings on the matter. Or maybe he does. Shay isn’t sure, that man was just too hard to read. 

‘‘ Aye, they have to be stopped. ‘’

One way or another, but even though he knew he had no other choice, the guilt was still there, even years after his defection.

‘‘ It doesn’t make the task any easier, though. Sometimes I wish to not feel what I feel. ‘‘

Haytham looked at Shay as if he was trying to read the man’s expression, pondering deeply. The man was indeed noble -- even when his former allies tried to murder him, there was some remorse in him. Only good people had those dilemmas, and perhaps Haytham was grown too bitter with time. His life had been a sequence of betrayals, and that hardened his heart.

“I apologize, Shay. I didn’t consider your feelings.” Not everyone was apathetic like Haytham. Shay had hope in him yet, and the Grandmaster didn’t want to shatter it into pieces -- even though he wanted his fellow Templar to understand people could corrupt easily.
