Rita was in the park and she saw a young ryk. She walked over cautiously noticing his distress and softly said something to him. “Hey you ok?”

“Aside from my parents being assholes and my body betraying me, yeah,” Ryk replied, not caring that he didn’t know the woman who had approached him.  He glanced up at her and muttered, “I haven’t seen you around.  Are you new around here?”

Rita nods. “I’m a little lost too, mind helping me get to a train station? I’m Rita just do you know.”

Ryk stood and shrugged.  “As long as it means I don’t have to go home yet.”  He turned and started walking.  “Ignore basically everyone here, they all hate me because they remember me as ‘the sweet little girl’, and they don’t want me to be a guy, so they hate me now.  They act like I killed the girl they thought existed,” he added and shook his head.  “They’re idiots.  I can’t believe I ever liked them.”

Rita hums softly at his words. “I’m not trans so I don’t know what that’s like, but I have trouble when I tell people I’m pansexual. They don’t get what it means, it’s frustrating. They try to tell me it’s a phase or you’ll grow out of it, even though I’m a legal voting adult. I can’t imagine how it feels to have your identity rejected. Whilst I’m here though I’ll support you and defend you. What’s your name, and what pronouns do you use? I don’t wanna misgender you.”

“Ryk, spelled R-Y-K, and my pronouns are he/him.  I don’t see why people are so pissy about other people’s gender and sexuality, I mean, live and let live.  Thanks, Rita.  You seem cool.  Must be fun, travelling around.  Do you do it often?”  Ryk glared as someone sighed audibly, but the man standing in front of a small shop didn’t say anything, so Ryk kept moving.

Rita glares daggers at the grumpy old fucker and answered ryks question not long after. “It is, I get mauled a lot but hey ho. I do it a lot I find it relaxing.”

The man took a step back at the combined glares, and Ryk hummed a bit.  “You wouldn’t happen to want company, would you?”  He tried to sound like he was joking, but he had been debating running away for ages, and if he had someone to travel with…  He knew it would be easier.

“I don’t mind having a companion but I can’t really house you. I don’t have the room and I’m struggling financially as it is, but I will always have you stay for a few days if you need it.” She says a sad time in her voice.

Ryk shook his head.  “I don’t want to impose.  I’m sure I could find something, I mean...  My family...  At least they don’t hurt me physically.  I could wait another few months until I’m 16 and find a job,” he replied and shouldered his way through some hedges.  “Shortcut,” he explained.

“Yeah, I suppose you’re right.  And I might’ve practiced a bit more than I should have right before the competition.  I was probably too tired to do such a complicated jump.  Anyway, what’s up?”

“Would you like to bake or something with me? Ima little linty and bored.”

“I’ve never baked, but I’d be willing to try, or my doctor says I can go back out on the ice now, if you wanted to skate with me.  For a first time, you did pretty well last time you tried.”

“I’d rather bake just in case ryk.” Rita says smiling at him.

Ryk chuckles and nods.  “Fair enough.  What do you want to bake?”

“We’ll start with cookies, and maybe a cake.” Rita says not wanting to overwhelm him. “Come on let’s get into the kitchen.” She says , walking in that direction.

Ryk follows her and looks around.  “Last time I actually cooked, I burned the shit out of it,” he admits and laughs softly.  “It was pretty bad.  I had to get takeout.”

Rita smiles ok seeing him and walks over to hug him. “Are you ok?” She asks, letting go yo look at his face.

Ryk hugs her back and nods.  “Yeah, the bandages are just a precaution.  And they had to shave a bit of my hair, so my hair is a bit lopsided.  I still can’t believe I was clumsy enough to fall.”
