Life is full of struggles and sacrifices especially if you want to realize your dreams. This is what happened to miss A’s Min in her pursuit of her dreams to become an idol.
Min, who was born on June 21 in Seoul, passed an audition and officially became a trainee at JYP Entertainment when she was in grade 5 and just 12 years old. When she turned 14, the agency’s CEO, Park Jin Young, decided to send Min to the United States.
In the foreign country, she continued to live as a trainee, preparing for her debut in the country for three years. With the importance of education always on her mind, the miss A leader also continued her study at Repertory Company High School in Manhattan. Her life in the U.S. was certainly difficult for the young Min.
“I had a little bit of problem because I was in a country where I could not express my words well. I miss my family, friends and Korean food,” she said.
Unfortunately, the plan to debut in America did not go well because it was continuously delayed. The idol who felt she was facing an uncertain future, took a brave decision. She gave up and returned to South Korea.
“My future became dark as my American debut kept getting delayed. I quit as a trainee and returned to Korea,” she said on KBS’s variety show, “Oh! My School” in 2010.
“I was still very young, so I did not know how to hold myself together. When I was a teenager, the thought that ‘I have to succeed’ was arduous for me. Without any other thought, I thought I was calm,” said the idol who had been a trainee for eight years.
Once she returned from America, she did not immediately contact her family. She worked as a dance teacher, English teacher, and worked part-time for 18 months. The miss A main dancer once again went to America and stayed there for six months, however, in the end she returned to her country and lived with her grandmother and father.
“I lost contact with my grandmother and father for one and a half years. My family was waiting for me for one and a half years, not knowing what I was doing. Despite that, I was warmly welcomed when I came back home. I’m very thankful to my family, especially my grandmother,” she continued.
As a form of affection and gratitude, she wants to present a bed that is made from jade stone to her beloved grandmother.
“I want to buy my grandmother a bed that is made from jade stone soon,” she admintted.
Her dream to become an idol was soon to be realized. In 2010, she finally debuted with miss A that consists of Suzy and two Chinese members, Fei and Jia. Their debut single, “Bad Girl Good Girl” ranked first on South Korean music charts.
Min’s strive and struggle to become an idol does not end there. There are still many things that she has to overcome and carry out in order to become a real idol.
