Loving 8 Bit

Actually, on the subject of Tim Follin, I should share this (because I usually share this). Like, okay, I’m not sure if it’s obvious how much is going on here but let me try to explain some stuff that I’m observing:

This is for a 48KB ZX Spectrum, not the 128KB model. I don’t know how it can fit this much song info in 48KB because the sound chip barely understands anything. Must be one hell of a sound driver.

The ZX Spectrum’s beeper was roughly equivalent to a PC speaker or a microwave or something. It’s designed for basic feedback beeps. You can control the pitch, it has one type of tone, it has one channel. This is the equivalent of hacking your microwave to play music like this. (Suddenly this sounds like an awesome idea.)

The wobbly raster lines in the borders are the music decompressing. They’re being written to the borders because there’s no room for them in the main memory, and the title screen has graphics on it. It’s like junk memory. Does that mean there’s four channels?
