Me: Iâm feeling really tired and the body is in pain and we might be getting sick. Anyone wanna switch with me?
The rest of the system:
Therapist: other than telling the very few people youâve told about the alters, do you plan to tell anyone else?
Me:
You know something I hate and wish got acknowledged more? The anger and low tolerance I get from depression and trauma triggering.
I wish the link between anger issues and ptsd was talked about more. Because seriously⌠When I feel low, I take shit so personally and feel annoyed so easily.
I just get filled with frustration for everything and snap really easily.
The thing is too⌠Anger is also often a sign of trauma. Itâs not always being all shaky and fragile, though I get like that sometimes too. But for me itâs mostly anger and despair.
I would like to find some trauma blogs to follow and interact with! please like or reblog this post if youâre a blog that is active and posts about:
trauma
CSA / COCSA
mental illness (BPD, DID, PTSD, depression / anxiety, etc)
any kind of abuseÂ
vent art
personal journals
or anything else thatâs abuse / trauma related!
iâll check you out and follow you if iâm interested.
(donât interact with this post if youâre a kink blog. donât.)

Important things to know about Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)
- It is not schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or borderline personality disorder.
- It is the result of severe childhood trauma.
- The identities of someone with DID are called different things. Alters, parts and others to name a few.
- There can be as few as 2 alters or into the hundreds with the average number being in the teens.
- Alters are not hallucinations or characters and ignoring them or telling the person to âsnap out of itâ will not make them go away.
- Although for some with DID the goal of treatment is to integrate alters into one whole identity many with DID feel this is not the right path for them and rather work on cooperation between alters to live as a team. Both of these are acceptable forms of recovery and it is up to the person with DID what path they want to take.
- DID is found in 1-3% of the population (possibly even more) making it more common than schizophrenia and not as extremely rare as many people believe.
- People with DID (or any mental illness) are statistically no more likely to commit any type of crime, violent or not. They are however more likely to be the victim of a crime.
- The âevil alterâ trope seen in fiction is not accurate and alters that hold trauma or anger are much more likely to hurt themselves than anyone else.
- Most people with DID donât have to live their lives in inpatient facilities and can still live good lives despite experiencing different types of struggles than people without DID.
To finish off DID awareness day here are some facts we have posted already and some we havenât!
Dear people without DID:
- if you meet a little unexpectedly, treat them as you would any child. Ignore the body, basically. Watch curse words and other âadultâ things. They probably just want to play.
- if some one has switched in front of you, donât be alarmed. Act like youâre meeting a new person. Say hi, hang out, do normal stuff.
- Donât ask people with DID about their trauma! Or at least not randomly. Its rude. Ask if theyâre okay to talk about it, and if they arenât, leave it alone.
- Keep in mind that some alters may use different pronouns or have different preferences.
- if an alter doesnât like you, donât be offended. Alters can be and generally are very different from the person you know, so please treat them with respect.
- if youâre dating someone with DID or interested in someone with it, be sure you know how their system handles dating. Some systems only allow one alter to date at a time, others allow all alters to date. If you arent comfortable with their decision, donât presure them to change.
- DONâT FAKE DID. I shouldnât even have to say this. Faking did or any mental illness is unforgivable. I know Iâve lost friends because of this. Its okay to be interested in did, but faking it makes us feel horrible. We had intense traumas and did is not some cool new trend.
- acknowledge that weâre different people. An alter may not know where they are or who you are. If they donât, let them know whatâs going on.
- some alters may not be able-bodied. They may have allergies or other mental illnesses that other alters donât have. Please keep this in mind.
- know who youâre talking to. If youâre messaging a person with DID, check it they have a tag on whoâs posting. If not, ask them.
Add more if Iâve forgotten something, and if reposting on instagram, tag @cardinal.png
Thanks!

I really need long hugs, night walks & late night talks.
@dimitra_basdani
why canât i explain DID to singlets without having to say âit used to be called multiple personality disorderâ
Lol ⌠because d.i.d. is waaayyy to in depth for singlets to grasp.
It actually is too hard for singlets to grasp or accept a lot of the time. Itâs shocking, really; often, people have no idea how to go about their friends and family having DID. If singlets were completely understanding, and respectful, of those with DID, movies like Split wouldnât exist, and abuse towards those with DID (which has happened to many of my friends who have DID) would not exist. Iâm not quite sure what you were trying to gain with this comment, but itâs extremely uneducated and disrespectful. Have a nice day.
Personally I donât understand the hate to having to use âIt used to be known as multiple identity disorderâ
Like I donât understand why itâs such a bad thing
Personally I donât like it, since it means people donât know what DID is unless you mention its old name and therefore tend to be uneducated. I know it isnât always their fault- and I donât hold a grudge for it of course, but itâs still pretty annoying, hence the post. Of course, other people probably have their OWN reasons for disliking it, so my response isnât set in stone or anything. And keep in mind you obviously donât have to agree with it or anything! Every system is different, and every system has their own boundaries and annoyances of their own.
I think is about how the term âmultiple identity disorderâ was used by the media in the wrong way so the people who doesnât have knowledge about DID think that people with âmultiple identity disorderâ are crazy or freaks.
The term dissociative identity disorder and used by psychologists and psychiatrists, and itâs more friendly.
Hereâs a sad example. My fiancĂŠ has DID, and when he was just a teen, he was in a bad psychiatric hospital, so he didn't receive the proper treatment. He still has the trauma because the people from there used to
use the term as if he was crazy monster.

Healing from trauma takes courage and strength. No matter how long it takes for you to heal, you will recover and you are so strong, so brave, so amazing.
I am so proud of you.
Just remember that recovery is not a race. Take your time. Pace yourself. You got this.
