I Am But A Conduit For Nonsense.

One time a friend told me that if she wanted to have a chill night she would come to me and ask for tea and a book to read. I didn’t like tea at the time, but I always made sure my cupboards had them in case she needed a quiet night. One time I told my boss that I loved oranges, but couldn’t peel them because of my nails. For a year he made sure to peel me one at least once a week. Once my friends gave me a made up superlative of “most likely to have a pen they could borrow” and ever since I’ve made sure I always carry a pen with me. A long time ago, my high school librarian told me that no one would care what my grade in my sophomore chemistry class was if I’m bringing them doughnuts and asking them about their day.

Sometimes friendship is about carrying pens and peeling oranges. But the point is, surrounding yourself with people who you want to do the little things for. The point of it all is bringing in the doughnuts because you’ve found the people who deserve the doughnuts.

like i am genuinely compelled by the fact that in his mind he sincerely believes that he cares about claire (and jamie) in a normal way. i dont think it ever actually occurs to him that majority of his actions are not things that a normal caring person does. but also he IS cognizant of the fact that he’s in this game to mansplain manipulate mad bastard his way to success. what success is to him we are never really sure. fundamentally he just wants the upper hand, or at least wants to get his way, and is baffled and betrayed when claire (and jamie) refuse to let him have it (the entirety of episode six and seven come to mind - insane work), and that drives him bonkers but he also doesn’t know how to actually be their enemy because he IS in a weird convoluted way no one actually understands still their loving uncle, sort of. and claire and jamie know this & simultaneously are like “ah fuck this again” and yet somehow also … acknowledge the fact that dougal does care and even appreciate his weird brand of loyalty while always making sure he’s got the lower hand. fascinating fascinating dynamic, i think about it often.

im also admittedly amused by him and claires ongoing commitment to playing 4d chess against each other when neither of them is actually very good at chess

ok but even from a matt murdock enjoyer standpoint i still am just baffled by the decision not to include foggy. it makes matt way more boring? it’s hard to feel anything towards him or for him when he doesn’t have foggy to be emotionally stunted to lol much of the tragedy of matt is he wants to be a good friend and well adjusted but he believes himself both to be a bad person incapable of those things and to know better than everyone else. ergo he fucks good things up for himself repeatedly. literally what is he if he doesn’t have his relationship with foggy to fuck up

like i want to ask the writers of this new program have we forgotten that without foggy he is without family and without anyone who has seen him at his lowest points and is still willing to put up with him. they wrote him as closed off and self-isolating in season one and then seemed to realize it’s way more fun to watch him bounce off of others he knows and loves but did basically none of the work to get him there. are we not going to have any fallout from karen leaving him. are we going to get any backstory on who cherry is. are we going to give kirsten the full Matt Murdock Experience and develop her like her character deserves or is she just kind of here because we needed another lawyer and we already killed foggy. do we have any writing ideas besides fisk winning winning winning and then losing after a contrived fight and handwaved legal reasoning to send him to prison like we have done repeatedly with diminishing returns. wilson bethel you’re alright i enjoyed your performance. are we going to bring foggy back so devil in cell block d actually makes sense or are we going to misinterpret a classic story for our edgelord tendencies
