Sailor.
You went out to sea the day you left me or so it seemed.
I found myself mindlessly wondering if you ever thought of me while you drifted alone in the depths of the ocean.
Weeks blurred into months, and months into years, as I lingered in a daze, haunted by what was and what could have been.
We were young.
Intimidated by the world around us.
Who knew we’d be the ones to pull apart something that once felt so close.
For six years, I carried tragedy, heartache, and melancholy, while you appeared in fleeting moments..
like a soft kiss from the salty sea breeze that greets wandering souls.
Little did I know, the pull within me..like the tug of a sail..wasn’t just old sorrow, but the quiet truth that my sailor never left me alone at the shore.
He hadn’t sailed far..just far enough to still see me, while I stared into the fog ahead.
A fog of doubt and insecurity that hid the path back.
And all along,
the sailor was only lost at sea,
yearning for what he finally knew
what he wanted.
