This was my outfit for the last year’s Victorian picnic themed around Tim Burton’s movies. I did not have a specific character in mind, I just picked items that fit ‘Victorian’ and ‘gothic’ theme, and fluffed my hair to resemble Helen Bonham Carter’s updos. Sadly, there wasn’t such meeting this year so I decided to post pictures to remind myself of the fun time I had.

Happy ILD! I made this beaded crown a few weeks ago for a royal-themed picnic in a botanical garden.

When I put together this outfit with a chocolate printed dress and a parasol with a brown castle on it, my friend joked that I look like an advert for ‘Lviv handmade chocolate’ cafe chain. It was the perfect place to take chocolate outfit shots in and an excuse to eat more chocolate, of course.
I was hesitant to post these photos because I feel very ambivalent about me wearing lolita and my appearance in general. But I have looked through them recently and some of the photos are not bad, so retro! I decided to share them as my first step to resurrecting my interest in lolita fashion and being more active on tumblr.

It is almost two months since we had this photoshoot, and I was hesitant to post it because I could not choose the best photos. There are all so pretty. This dress has traditional Chinese details like frog closures, but I coordinated it in a classic style. I would like to coordinate it in qi lolita style someday when I pluck enough courage.

Photoshopped professional photos in lolita get the most praise, and bring the biggest amount of likes. It’s nice to have at least two friends who are into photography. But I feel that candid photos have their charm too, even though the quality is not always the best and they do not always show me or my outfit in a good way. Their slight imperfection, unforced posturing and the sense of a fleeting moment of life make them beautiful in their own way.

I’m not the biggest fan of the photo editing here, but I wanted to share this outfit, it turned out to be quite cute. For me part of the charm is that the dress is the most expensive part of the outfit, everything else is handmade, offbrand or second hand. For example, the gloves were my mother’s friend wedding gloves (I guess they could be called ‘vintage’ by now).
