Summary: Tom is campus' heartrob and everyone is always falling in love with him. But in the end he only has eyes for one girl: (Y/N) - his best friend in the whole world. After a few confusing words when Tom gets drunk at a party makes (Y/N)'s head very confused, and in the end, it's not always easy to fall in love with college's biggest fuckboy. Jealousy is a disease after all.
A/N: First of all, I wanna say THANK YOU FOR THE 1K FOLLOWERS! I did this extra special fanfiction where you can choose between reading the fluff or angst version of the same story. This one's been on the oven for oh such a long time and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I wanted to go back and write for Tom - since this is where everything started on Tumblr. I know things have been messed up lately (because of the lack of notes and everything), but this one is for everyone who's been supporting me from day one. I love you all!
Words: 6.3 K
Pairing: Frat!Tom Holland x Best Friend!Reader (Best Friends to Lovers and Slowburn)

The loud music from next door was keeping (Y/N) from falling asleep. It was unlucky for her to live on a street full of fraternities and sororities and choose not to go to their usual Friday night party. This time, the sorority next door was hosting another party that would go until sunrise. She decided to stay in her room because the last time she attended one of their parties, she woke up half-naked floating over an air mattress in their pool. It would be fine to stay inside since it was rare to have her own sorority empty and the house all for herself. But her whole programmed night went down to shit because of the loud music next door.
(Y/N) couldn’t hear the sound of her own television. She tried to read a book but got distracted by the sound outside. But she knew the night would go like that, but she made her choice. So after running out of ideas to distract herself, she decided it was best to lie in the dark and close her eyes in the hope to get some sleep. What an unsuccessful idea. When she was almost giving up on trying to sleep, her phone rang.
“Are you awake?” The sound of her best friend’s voice came through the phone, muffed by the loud music.
“Yes, or I wouldn’t be talking to you.”
“I’m downstairs. Can you open the front door for me?”
“Coming.”
She slipped out of bed to put on her comfortable slippers and her robe to run downstairs and open the front door for her friend. To say she wasn’t expecting Tom to pop on her door was a lie, but she didn’t expect it to be so early. He would normally call her right before dawn or slip in with one of her sorority sisters to have a place to crash whenever he was feeling too drunk or too tired to go home. Or when you were there with him at the parties, he would reach his limit by three in the morning and you would take him home.
“I’m bored.” He leaned against the door frame and groaned. “This party sucks. Not even alcohol helped it get better.”
“Well, you look trashed.” She giggled. Tom’s shirt was wrinkled, his hair was messy, there was some lipstick stain on his neck and he had his drunk halo on. It never failed to make (Y/N) laugh.
“Can you take care of me?” He whined and pouted, which made her roll her eyes.
“How can I resist this face?” She pulled him in to close the door behind him before any drunk person decided to crash inside your house as well.
Tom wasted no time on wrapping his arms around his best friend, seeking comfort. He rested his face on the crook of her neck and took in her scent, feeling the sense of familiarity that he enjoyed so much. (Y/N) rested her hands on his back and ran them up and down to soothe him. He pressed one kiss to her shoulder before pulling away.
“I’m hungry.” He groaned and you laughed.
“Lucky for you, I bought pizza tonight and didn’t finish it.” He followed her to the kitchen and sat on the table to watch her open the fridge to find her leftovers for him to eat. “You arrived early. I thought you had a date tonight.”
“I did, but she was annoying.” He groaned. “We were making out and she stopped to get us some drinks. In the meantime, another girl started flirting with me across the room and you know I can’t resist not flirting back.”
“You’re a div.” (Y/N) chuckled.
“Anyway, the other girl saw it and they started fighting. I was too drunk and too tired for that, so I left.” He finished. “Plus, I missed you. I don’t know why you decided not to go today.”
“Why would I waste the perfect night to be alone to go to a party that you said was boring?” She served him with a glass of soda and his piece of pizza.
“To keep me company. Would’ve sucked less if you were there.” She smiled with his words and sat next to him, resting her head on his shoulder. “This is definitely the highest point of my night. I got pizza, I got my girl. You’re way more interesting than that stupid party.”
“I’m flattered.” She joked, making him laugh. Tom’s laugh was her favourite sound in the world. She could listen to it over and over again and never get tired of it. That’s a very funny way to think about your best friend.
He finished his pizza as he continued to talk about the party, telling her every detail. The more time passed, her housemates started to come back, way too drunk to think about any of their actions. One of them even tried to hit on Tom, who looked at (Y/N) with desperation in his eyes, asking her to save him. The only thing she could think about was dragging him back to her room so they could get some privacy.
She shared a room with a roommate, but she already warned (Y/N) that she was not coming home tonight, so they didn’t worry about anyone disturbing their sleep tonight. Also, they shared the tiniest bathroom, which already made it considered the best room in the house since they were two of the few lucky ones who had this privilege. The only other ones were the presidents and the vice president’s room. Tom got the toothbrush he left at her place to brush his teeth and she did the same, sometimes bumping her elbow on his side teasingly. After they were both done, she cleaned his face with her nightly skincare because she knew that he secretly enjoyed it when she took care of him like that, and she thought it would be a nice gesture.
It was not unusual of them to do things the other found endearing. (Y/N) did Tom’s nightly skincare when he was around. He, for example, had her period track app downloaded on his phone to know whenever she is on her period to take care of her. And those were also things no one else knew about their friendship; they always kept it on the low. Everybody knew that they were close, but nobody knows how close they really are. They always thought (Y/N) and Tom had a limit. Turns out that they don’t.
“My face smells good.” He sleepily mumbled and she giggled.
“I did a good job.” She finished moisturizing his face. “I have a bottle of water right next to the bed and I think you should drink the whole thing, love. Don’t want to be nursing your hangover tomorrow.”
“Bossy.”
He did what she said anyway. Tom wasn’t stupid, he knew that she only said that to take care of him. She always knew better, and she would never do something that wasn’t good for him. He hasn’t had a hangover ever since she started taking care of him, it was almost like a superpower. Actually, it was just science. The key to not having a hangover is to stay hydrated.
By the time he finished the bottle, she already had a change of clothes for him in her hands, so he wouldn’t have to sleep half-naked as they squeezed in a small bed.
“Are you feeling better?”
“So much better.” He smiled tiredly.
As Tom changed his clothes, she crawled into her bed to find a good spot and wait for him. They always shared a bed because (Y/N)’s roommate hates when other people used hers, and they didn’t mind squeezing together on a tiny one; it was just an excuse to cuddle. When he finished, he crawled to bed and found his spot right next to her. (Y/N)’s back pressed to his stomach, his legs over hers, caging her with him. It was their favourite sleeping position and they both knew it was their most vulnerable moment together. He pressed a few kisses to her shoulders and back, sending chills up her spine, making her cuddle more into him.
“You’re always the best part of my day.” He whispered. She knew it was just his drunk brain talking but she couldn’t help but find it endearing. “I couldn’t think of a better way of ending it. You always take such good care of me.”
“I will do anything for my best friend.” They fell into silence and she was pretty sure he fell asleep, that until he said:
“I love you, (Y/N).” But the snores that followed those words announced that he had fallen asleep. Her heart warmed and flipped at those words. He never said anything close to that before; it was a first.
“I love you too, Tommy.”
(Y/N) and Tom met at the first party his fraternity was hosting during their freshman year in college. They bonded by being a duo on beer pong and winning it, ending the night drunk, feet dipped inside the pool and talking. Ever since that night, they’ve been inseparable. A lot of girls were jealous of (Y/N) hanging out with Tom all the time and getting to spend some quality time with him inside and outside the parties. Even though in the end they were the girls he ended up taking to his bedroom, he only had space in his heart for one girl: (Y/N) (Y/L/N).
Tom always came back for HER, the only girl he truly cared about and the only one he would go through any trouble for. But it was all platonic, and for a while, she thought that was why their friendship worked. That lasted until she heard those three words before he fell asleep. Three simple words that made her question two years of friendship. She couldn’t help but think if he loved her like a best friend or like something else? Or better. If she loved him like a best friend or as a lover?
When (Y/N) woke up the next morning, she was still confused. She felt fingers running through her head, caressing it nicely and softly. Small rays of sunshine invaded the room and she shifted in bed to realize that she was lying on Tom’s chest as he looked down at her.
“Good morning, darling.” His voice was raspy and low like he had just woken up.
“Good morning, Tom. Awake for long?” You looked up to him and he shrugged.
“A little bit, but you looked so comfortable that I didn’t want to disturb your sleep. And I don’t mind spending a few extra minutes in bed.”
“I know. This view is way too beautiful.” She teased, biting her bottom lip and watching his expression closely. Tom chuckled, the vibrations of his chest echoing through her body.
“That’s right, love.”
Love. It only reminded her of the words he drunkenly let slip out and it made her tense. Luckily it went unnoticed by Tom, who was now slipping out of bed to go into the bathroom. She rolled in bed to check out the time and it was way too late to wake up. Lunchtime was over in the house and she would have to make something to eat by herself.
“Are you hungry?” She raised her voice for him to hear.
“Starving.” He said from the bathroom.
“I was thinking about making us some food since it’s way past noon and we missed lunch.” She suggested and he came back with his face and teeth clean.
“No, darling. We can go out and grab something to eat. You cooking means that I’ll have to clean and I’m not in the mood.” He whined and sat back in bed.
“But I don’t have any money, Tommy.” She pouted.
“I’ll pay for it.” He said immediately. “Pretty please! I don’t wanna be alone today.”
“Why is that?” She played along.
“Because I’m needy.” He cried. “Come on, we can get anything you want. And we could catch a movie or something. Just a lazy Saturday, please.”
“Okay, let me get ready.”
“I’m gonna go back home, change my clothes and come pick you up.” He warned before running out of the bedroom, leaving (Y/N) all alone.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want to spend the day with Tom, but millions of thoughts were running through her mind ever since the previous night and she didn’t want to spend her day pretending to be alright so he wouldn’t question anything. She needed a second to think, and he wasn’t giving it to her.
But she got up to get ready anyway; took a good shower and wore the first clothes she found in the closet. In the end, she was wearing the basics: jeans, a shirt and a jacket. There was no point in putting much effort into her outfit anyway. Coming down from her room, (Y/N) watched the effects from last night’s party. The girls weren’t even talking, all of them were still wearing pajamas with their ordinary hangover faces.
“Morning, girls.” (Y/N) said, holding her laugh in. “I bet last night was a good one.”
“I vomited three times last night.” One of the girls said, making (Y/N) sick.
“Alright.” She nodded and continued her walk to the kitchen to get herself something to drink.
“You tell me if last night was good.” Chrissy, the sorority’s president, said with a playful smile on her face. “We all saw Tom Holland leaving your room this morning.”
All the girls started talking at the same time, forgetting about their hangover to gossip about him and the friendship he had with (Y/N). She hated when they commented on her friendship with Tom. They were very private and they didn’t want people to comment on their lives. But her sorority sisters loved to say something whenever they saw Tom around or interacting with her. Some were even jealous of them.
“He just asked to stay over because he was drunk just like he does all the time. Nothing happened.”
“I don’t buy it. You always say nothing happens between you two, but no one is that close to their best friend like that.” Chrissy replied. “You were all alone last night and he disappeared in the middle of nowhere.”
“But that doesn’t mean anything.”
“Well, you’re lucky to have him, girl. I know a lot of people out there that would give anything to be in your position.”
Ignoring more comments and theories about what happened the previous night - which was nothing - (Y/N) finished her glass of water in an attempt to get lost in her mind. She couldn't even escape from the girls' questions when the front door opened again, revealing Tom standing on the other side, now wearing clean and pretty clothes.
"Good afternoon, ladies." He greeted the girls with a flirty smile. They all melted and replied the same words to him, which made (Y/N) roll her eyes. She hated when he used his popularity to flirt with the girls in her sorority.
"You are ridiculous." She mouthed at him and he sent a sheepish smile towards her.
"You look lovely on this jacket that I gave you." He was lying. The jacket she was wearing was one she bought for herself as a treat last week, but Tom knew that all the other girls would be jealous if they thought he had given her this jacket. It was clear just by the drop on their jaws.
"Thank you, cutie." They could swear the girls' jaws dropped even more when she said that.
"You good to go?"
"Just need to send a text." She said and he walked to stand right next to her. Sometimes Tom loved to tease the other girls and see how far they could go for him, and he knew that (Y/N) secretly liked to tease them too sometimes, even though they liked to keep their friendship on the low. So he let his arm around her shoulder and pressed a kiss to her temple.
If (Y/N) wasn't confused about last night, it would've been just a nice gesture. But Tom's first "I love you" that slipped from his drunk mouth was stuck in her head ever since she first heard it. So it made her heart beat a little bit faster once his lips made contact with her skin, and she gasped for a second.
"What's this about?" She whispered to him and he shrugged.
"Helping you out." Tom's smirk was so stupid that brought another one to her face.
"I hate you." She whispered.
"Nah, you love me." Tom winked, bringing the L-word back once again. Doesn't this boy never stop?
When (Y/N) finally looked around, she saw that most of her sorority sisters were still looking at her under Tom's arms, eyes burning with envy, and it was making her uncomfortable.
"Can we get going? I'm so hungry." (Y/N) asked him and he nodded once he saw the look in her eyes. It was that pleading look that he knew very well what it meant. She wanted to get out of there because she was feeling uneasy.
"Of course." His eyes softened. "Bye, ladies."
"Goodbye, Tom." They said in unison.
Once they closed the door behind them, (Y/N) let out a loud groan and had to control herself with a deep breath. Tom noticed that there was something bothering her and to not let anyone peek through the sorority's windows, he got her inside the car to talk with more privacy.
"What's wrong, (Y/N)?"
"They can be so annoying sometimes." She sighed. "I love my sisters, but I don't like when they get nosy with my personal life."
"Oh, so I'm your personal life?" He teased, sticking the tip of his tongue between his teeth. She rolled her eyes and chuckled. "I'm joking, alright? I know we both don't like when other people get nosy about our friendship."
"They just had to pick the day that I'm not in a good mood, uhm?" She looked out the window, leaving the car silent for some seconds.
"You're not in a good mood?" Tom frowned. "Why?"
"I don't know, I'm just tired."
She avoided his eyes at all costs. How would she admit that she was not in a good mood because the three words he said last night were still echoing through her mind. (Y/N) only wanted a full day to think about this strange feeling that appeared out of nowhere.
"Did something happen while I was gone?" Of course, Tom wouldn't buy the 'I'm tired' excuse after two years of knowing every tiny detail about her.
"No, I really only woke up on the wrong side of the bed." She sighed. Tom rested his hand on top of hers and untangled her fingers to lace with his.
"We're gonna turn this day around, okay? Just like you turned my night around." She looked back at his deep brown eyes and got lost inside them, which didn't help her at all. "Let's go grab something to eat, choose a movie to watch and we’ll make it alright.”
“Okay.” She opened a weak smile and Tom stuck his tongue between his teeth.
“Is that a smile?” He teased and she scoffed him off
“Shut up and drive, dickwad."
Tom took her to a cafe that served good food for lunch, where they'd normally stop by to eat something after parties or whenever neither of them was up to cooking. Sometimes they'd go to fancier restaurants or nicer places, but that was their little spot ever since freshman year. This was the first place he ever took her after they met at the party, so it was special for them.
"Okay, so it looks like there are no interesting movie screenings in town this weekend," Tom said after locking his phone in defeat. "I guess we'll have to stick with the good old Netflix."
"Maybe we should just drop this whole movie thing and rest this afternoon." She suggested and Tom frowned.
"Why am I getting the feeling that you're doing everything you can to not spend the day with me?"
"What?" She frowned, pretending to be offended by the not-so-untruthful affirmation. "It's not that, Tom. I'm just tired, that's all."
"It's not like we're going on a hike. We're just watching a movie and since we'll get to do it at home, we can cuddle." He said. "Harrison bought the whole fraternity some new blankets and they are very soft. You need to try them."
"I guess my sorority sisters are right. Our friendship is very weird." She said between laughs.
"They think that? Why?"
"They think we are a thing." She said. "Actually, the whole campus does."
"Just because we are close? That's ridiculous." He laughed. "You deserve someone ten times better than me. You're kind of amazing."
"Thanks, I guess?" She frowned and laughed at his words. "But yeah, I do deserve someone who doesn't drag me to places I'd rather not be."
"You're so annoying. We just had a nice lunch, I'm paying for food and I got you out of that madhouse." He poked her side and pulled her for a side hug. "Now I'm offering you warm cuddles and you're acting like I'm taking you to be executed."
"You're lucky you're cute." She stared into his eyes and he smiled at her words.
"Come on, a soft blankie awaits."
It is afternoons like this that make (Y/N)'s head too confused. She could just pretend that it was normal to sit back and listen to Tom humming along to a love song on the radio, or when he would discreetly smile at her every time Harry Styles sang ”I'd walk through fire for you, just let me adore you”. But it wasn't as easy as it seemed.
To be fair, she didn't know what to think anymore. It was all a big mess in her head, and it wasn't helping at all being pressed against Tom's body in his fraternity's living room couch, as they watched a drama movie that was so boring that was lulling both of them to sleep. He had a superpower to make her forget about all of her worries whenever they were together, so it was easy to melt into his hug and sleep with her head pressed to his chest as the rain poured outside.
(Y/N) woke up from her afternoon nap with loud noises around her and the feeling of fingers running through her hair. She knew who it was because it became so familiar to her that it was easy to identify his touch. The noises were coming from his housemates, who had all woken up from a hangover nap to regain power after partying too much.
"Wake up, lovebirds." Harrison, Tom's other best friend and roommate, said followed by a small giggle. "You know our no dating in the living room policy, Tom."
"We're not dating, dickhead." Tom mumbled in his sleep and tightened his grip around her. "Fuck off."
"This rule only applies for sex in the couch, Harrison." Tuwaine, their other close friend and fraternity brother, said. "And it's not like anyone here ever obeys it. The president himself was making out with a girl yesterday right where they are sleeping.
"Gross! Gross!" (Y/N) rushed out of the couch and took a deep sigh before rubbing her eyes to shrug off her sleep. Tom followed her up and tiredly wrapped his arms around her.
"Wanna sleep some more upstairs? I promise my bed is clean." He whispered in her ear and she shook her head.
"I better get back to my house." She said and he agreed with a nod.
"I'll walk you home."
"It's okay, darling. It's still bright and I live within a five-minute walk." She held his face between her hands and softly kissed his cheek. "Go to sleep, okay? I know you're tired from last night."
"Alright, call me before you go to bed."
"I will."
(Y/N) left before shortly saying goodbye to everyone and the whole house started to laugh a few seconds after she closed the door.
"Who would've thought that Tom Holland, the campus' hottest and most popular lad, would be head over heels for his best friend," Harrison said once again between laughs.
"Shut up, I'm not in love with her."
"Yes, you are!" Tuwaine said. "You look at her as if she was the most precious thing to ever exist."
"And that's kind of cute." Haz said. "I like (Y/N), she's nice. And you complete each other."
"You're ridiculous. She's my best friend, I don't love her like that." Tom shrugged before getting himself something to drink from the fridge.
"Yes, you do." Haz said. "We're your best friends too. You can tell us."
"I-I…" Tom tried to start but stopped mid-sentence with a groan. He decided to keep his voice low just for Tuwaine and Harrison to listen to his confession. "I don't know how I feel about her, alright? I mean, she's (Y/N). My amazing and fantastic (Y/N). But at the same time, I'm so confused because I've never loved a girl in my entire life, and with her, it's so easy to love."
"You should tell her that, mate." Tuwaine said.
"It doesn't matter, T. She doesn't love me back anyway.”
To be very honest, the following week was very confusing for both of them. Tom and (Y/N) spent their days trying to figure out their true feelings about each other and to do that, they were avoiding contact as much as they could. Well, they would call and text to check on the other every day, but nothing more than that. Actually, they pretended to be very busy just to have an excuse to avoid each other. But when Harrison's birthday arrived at the end of the week, they knew they would have to meet at the small gathering Haz was hosting at the fraternity the day before his big party on Saturday.
"Happy happy birthday, birthday boy." (Y/N) handed Harrison his gift when he opened the door with a big smile on his face.
"Thank you so much, (Y/N/N)!" He said. "And thank you for stopping by. It means a lot to me."
"Hey, free beer can move mountains and my ass out of the house." She teased him.
"Come in, please. Serve yourself and have fun."
"Thank you, H."
Tom was in the kitchen with a few other people. He was wearing the most simple outfit for tonight, but the bright smile on his face as he talked to his mates was his best accessory. It only got bigger once (Y/N) entered the room. He rushed to give her a hug after a week without seeing her.
“I missed you so much.” He mumbled. “I had no one to tease me.”
“Good to know I’m still the one and only pain in your ass.” She joked. “Get me a drink?”
“Pronto!” He rushed to the fridge to get some extra beers and was interrupted on his way back by one of the girls from her sorority - Lizzy, who she hated with every cell of her body. But Tom seemed to like her way too much, considering he glanced back once she left to check her ass out. He even delivered (Y/N) her beer without taking his eyes off the girl. That annoyed his best friend.
Most of the night was smooth and ordinary. (Y/N) got involved in Tom’s group of friends conversation and she stood by his side as much as she could, properly keeping casual conversation with everyone around. But at some point, Tom excused himself to go talk to Lizzy in the other room. That totally turned (Y/N)’s mood off, especially when they sneaked to the bathroom to hook up. When Tom came back, (Y/N) wasn’t behaving the same. For starters, she dodged Tom’s cheek kiss once he came back.
“What was that about?”
“Nothing.” She shrugged. Truth is, (Y/N) had never felt jealous before and that was the first time. Maybe jealousy was enough to make her rude.
“Come on, talk to me.”
“I really don’t wanna talk right now, Thomas.”
“Thomas?” He frowned at the name. She barely calls him Tom, and being called by his full name meant that there definitely was something wrong.
“What the hell is happening?” He continued. “Suddenly I’m Thomas to you?”
“It’s nothing.” She tried to change subjects by paying attention to what Tuwaine was saying, but Tom still got what happened a few seconds ago in his mind. When Tuwaine was done speaking and their little group started to dissipate, (Y/N) quickly tried to leave, but Tom got a grip on her wrist.
"Wanna go talk somewhere private?"
"I don't really wanna talk to you right." She avoided his eyes like the plague, but he kept insisting.
"Please, I wanna know what's going on." He said. "I don't know why you're treating me like shit out of nowhere. Did I do something wrong?"
(Y/N) didn't dare to speak. She knew he didn't do anything wrong and she was being petty. But the girl was stubborn and she would never admit she is wrong. And most importantly: she would never admit she is jealous of him. By doing that, it would be almost like admitting she’s in love with him.
"No phone calls all week, no text messages. You were trying to avoid me last weekend. And now this? Literally out of nowhere?" Tom was clearly hurt. Anyone could see that through his eyes. “You know I worry about you all the damn time, (Y/N).”
"What do you want me to say?"
"I want you to tell me what's wrong."
"I can't." How could she say she was jealous of her best friend with some other girl? Not only was she confused, but she was hurting a lot too.
"Come look for me whenever you're ready to talk. But I'm not keeping up with this bullshit anymore."
Tom was short-tempered and (Y/N) knew that - she was the same as him. So when he exited to go to his room, she decided to leave for home. After that night, Tom and (Y/N) went through their first two weeks without talking to each other at all since they met. It was torturing and heartbreaking for both of them. Most of those two weeks were spent crying.
When the third one was just around the corner, (Y/N) was starting to mourn the friendship and it took her, unconsciously, to her's and Tom's café. And like magic, he was sitting in the first booth right in front of the door. His eyes were bloodshot and puffy as if he had been crying. Tom didn’t have that shiny and gold aura on him anymore
"Hi." Her voice was low as if she was testing the waters. Tom didn't reply. Instead, he left some money over the table and wordlessly left the café. (Y/N) tried to follow him before he got to his car. "Can we talk please?"
"Why? So you can be rude to me again? No, thank you." He rolled his eyes and tried to get into his car.
"Fuck…" She cursed. “Please, Tom.”
"I'm sorry, (Y/N). Unless you have a good excuse, I'm not talking to you."
"I have a reason. I really do." She cried. "But I can't tell you."
"No one has a good reason to treat your best friend like shit. And if you can’t trust me with this, maybe you never knew me at all." He said before leaving. All (Y/N) had left was to go home to be miserable again.
She cried herself to sleep that afternoon because that’s all she’s been doing for the past weeks. The sorority next door was having another party and it was just starting, at least judging by the music starting to get loud. But the only thing that got her to wake up was someone bursting into the room.
"Tell me why." (Y/N) was tiredly confused, and she needed a second to properly wake up. Tom was dressed up for the party, but knowing him so well, she knew that he didn’t even set foot inside that party. He doesn’t like when people see him crying. She’s the only one he had ever been vulnerable with. "Why did you do that? Because it's burning me up inside."
"I can't say, I've told you already."
"(Y/N), I'm your best friend. We've seen each other naked, we've shared food and bed." She exited the room, trying to get as far away from him as possible. "And we were partners in crime. So why the fuck can't you tell me what's going on?"
"Because it will change everything between us and I’m not ready for it yet.” She screamed. “Because I’m not ready for you to leave for good.”
“You know me well enough to know I wouldn’t leave you for anything.” He said. “I wouldn’t leave you even if you said you killed somebody. But you fucking started to leave me out of nowhere and I don’t know why. And it’s killing me, (Y/N)! It’s killing me! So please, tell me.”
“Because I love you, alright?” She shouted. “I love you and I was jealous of that girl you sneaked into the bathroom to hook up with that night. I love you and I’m not sure you love me back because the only time you ever said it to me was when you were drunk.”
“You what?” His eyes softened as he watched her confess her feelings to him.
“I’m in love with you. I mean how could I not be?” She cleaned the tears from her eyes. “You’re the only one who takes care of me. You’re the only one who calls me every night to say good night. You’re the only one who tells me I’m pretty every day. You’re the one who makes me laugh at the stupidest jokes. You’re the one who makes me feel loved.”
“You love me?”
“Yes, and I know you don’t feel the same. Because how could you ever leave your precious popular life to settle down for your best friend, right?” She started rambling, and Tom tried to cut her short.
“(Y/N), listen to me.”
“You don’t need to lie to me just to make me feel better, because I don’t want that, I don’t want li-” He decided to shut her up for once with a kiss. The neediest kiss of all time. The angriest kiss of them all. And the most full of love kiss to ever exist.
Tom held her face between his hands and the rest of his body pushed her against the wall, where she got to lean against and have the full support on her body to not faint. Because in her head it was not happening, and she’d wake up shortly after all alone in her bed. But the warmth of his kisses was proving her wrong. It was really happening, even though it seemed dreamy.
“I love you too.” He whispered against her lips. “I’ve been in love with you for oh so long. From the very first moment our feet accidentally touched inside that pool on our freshman year. From that night we shared chips over stupid jokes at our café. I love you every day and every night and don’t you ever dare think I would choose anything or anyone else besides you.”
“Tommy…”
“No, listen.” He glued their foreheads together and closed his eyes. “I’ve never been in love in my entire life. But you… You taught me how to love, (Y/N). And I regret not saying it before to you, but I’ll repeat it every day until my last breath. Because that’s how you make me feel.”
“I’m so sorry for the past weeks.” She hugged him and started crying once again. “I didn’t want to be rude to you. I was just scared.”
“It’s okay, I forgive you.” He whispered in her ear. “I know how scary it is. Because I was scared too.”
“So where this leaves us?” She looked up at him and he smiled.
“I think we can figure it out. This time together, and more honest. Would you like that?”
“Yes, together.” She laced their fingers and kissed him one more time. “This time no more hiding feelings, right?”
“No more.” He agreed. “Now, I don’t really feel like going to this party anymore.”
“We could go to my room because we have a lot to talk about.”
“We really do.” He chuckled and she started to lead the way. But Tom stood behind, just watching her with admiration in his eyes. When she noticed he wasn’t following her, (Y/N) turned back at him.
“What are you doing?”
“Remembering this moment. To our wedding vows.” He teased. “Because I’ll marry you someday, (Y/N) Holland.”
“Oh, shut up.” She laughed, but he remained serious. “Really? (Y/N) Holland?”
“Only if you say yes.” He kneeled on the ground, but (Y/N)’s eyes widened as she ran up to him.
“TOM! This is way too early.” He laughed at her worried expression before getting up and immediately kissing her.
“You’re cute when you’re desperate.” He said against her lips. “Can’t wait to see more of you from this new perspective.”
