Why you should give Hexes & Exes a read...
Hi.Â
Myosotis here, the self promo queen.Â
Now, Iâm here to talk about my first book, Hexes & Exes, and give you a couple hints on the plot & genre & themes and why I think adults who crave easy fantasy, relatable characters & smutt should pick it up (and the sequels, Potions & Arsons, etc etc).
Firstly, Iâd like to make this very clear : this book and the series is intended for an adult audience, no exceptions. It contains mature situations, graphic language, graphic violence and sexual content which isnât suitable for anyone under 18.Â
It is contemporary fantasy, dark fantasy & fantasy romance.Â
1. This isnât a book about chosen ones. This isnât a story about a teenager who discovers powers and is suddenly pulled into a magical world where everyone wants a piece of them. This book is about adults living in a magical society, they are already well-aware of it and are far from being chosen ones. We donât like teen protagonists saving the world here, not anymore - and if we do mention them, it is as side characters. Here, we have adults who are broken, learning, and hoping to heal. Some of them have bad coping mechanisms, some of them donât even know they have to recover until they do, and others are unapologetically themselves despite how much it hurts them. Be prepared for some self destructive thinking, behaviour, and their inner thoughts being exposed.Â
2. So, because Iâve established weâre talking about ADULTS, these characters are all well over 25 (25-30 years old) and are active members of their wizarding society. Lee Strix, our protagonist, is a professor in a magical school, some of her friends are too, others are journalists and lawyers and sentinels (aka law enforcement). As Adults, they have lives which we can all relate to (minus the magic and all), with things like complicated relationships, work, expectations, romance⌠smutt. Lots of it, not going to lie.Â
3. While the premise of this book focuses a LOT on Lee strix and her coming to terms with her childhood traumas (being a gifted child, loosing her spark, becoming a burned out adult, having communication issues with her parents, fear of commitment, etc) and her rivalry with Ren Peridot, there are tons of layers that build up to a larger overarching story that is the central plot of all the books (which I canât reveal, spoilers). Just know that itâs about a LOT more and it will involve a lot of mystery, investigation, plot twists at every corner.Â
4. While you may jump into this series thinking Lee Strix is the protagonist, there are actually many main characters. Iâd say in total, you could consider 5 as being âmainâ and 4 as being âsecondaryâ, though ideally Iâd like you to consider them all as equally important because they all play a role and bring their own piece to the puzzle that is the story. So be prepared for many POVs coming in this book and the next, where other characters get time to shine. The characters are of diverse backgrounds, descent & sexuality.Â
5. As I mentioned, there is a lot of smutt. Thatâs not the whole purpose of the book, but it is a very important part of it as it is in some ways a tool for our characters to learn about themselves and grow as individuals. So, thereâs also romance. Though it isnât the central plot, it is very crucial to it because it will play an important role in how the characters build relationships amongst themselves.Â
6. Dark academia !! This serieâs whole vibe is dark/light academia meshed into one with a gothic melancholic ambiance and a dash of urban aestethic. If you like the idea of magical schools around the world, each unique and reminiscent of gothic, renaissance, medieval, byzantine or oriental architecture, then youâll be satisfied. If you like the idea of a parallel world of magic with creatures, a complex magic system, wands, rituals, potions etc then itâs definately for you. And if you like all of that mixed in with the comfort of modern society (clubs, phones, stores, malls, restaurants etc) then HELLO, we have whole chapters that happend in Paris, New York, Seoul, San Francisco (not all in book 1, sprikled in the sequels too).Â
Finally, Iâd like to thank every reader that has already been so kind to check my books out (on kindle, KU, paperback, hardcover etc) and left ratings & reviews. Please do the same if you have read them or intend to, it really motivates indie authors like me to keep writing, it makes all that we pour of ourselves into the stories worth it.Â
Now, if you want to dive inâŚÂ

What distinguishes Lee Strix from other women of her age and generation is the simple fact that she isn't entirely human.
Lee is a witch; though not really the kind who flies on a broom, owns a frog, or snaps her fingers to get what she wants - though, admittedly, she did own a frog in her youth. Of course, she isn't the only witch in existence. Thousands of magical folk roam the earth: some born into it, knowing nothing but the hidden world; others becoming a part of it later on in life, once their affinity to the Craft became evident in their childhood. There's much more to the world that can't be seen through simple human eyes...
But there's so much in common with it, too... like love, sex, frienships and trauma.
Friends, lovers, secrets and dark forbidden magic.
Lee's life is about to take an unexpected turn... for better or worse?
Sex, Secrets & Spells is a compendium of two books:

2. Potions & Arsons

Iâm lost in heaven. His body taking me to places I never knew existed. We explore each other, our hands and mouths discovering every inch of our skin. I let out a moan as he enters me, slowly, stretching me out so deliciously.
Heâs gentle with me at first. He knows I havenât been with anyone in such a long time, but once I feel him inside of me, I need more. I need to feel all of him.
He hooks my leg over his arm as his pace quickens, his eyes never leaving mine as he does this. Iâm scared of what I see in them.
Love.
I see love in his eyes and that terrifies me, but the pleasure he makes me feel in this moment, keeps those thoughts at bay as my abdomen feels that pull.
Heâs always looked at me like Iâm his Sun, when in reality, Iâm just like a young sunflower; facing the Sun as it moves across the sky.
Heâs my light in the darkness, and Iâm terrified that my darkness is so great, that itâll eventually snuff out his light.
His eyes shut as I watch an orgasm rip through him. Moans ring out as I, too, gush all around his length. I feel dizzy, but so amazing. My body tingles, the haze in my mind dissipating when I feel his velvet lips on my jaw, kissing me tenderly.
okay this was? beautiful?
lee, i love how you walked us backwards. we start at that steamy moment and then all the pieces that led to that moment are slowly revealed.
i love that OC has to talk out her feelings and fears. and i love the way the ensing made me feel.
thank you for writing this đđđ
Ahh, this means so much to me! Thank you, Ana. For reading my story and for your beautiful feedback. I appreciate it so much đĽşâĽď¸
I love it đđđđđđđđ
This man made me forget my name... just how to function in general Iâ
âI always remember having this fight with a random dude who claimed that âstraight white menâ were the only true innovators. His prime example for this was the computer⌠the computer⌠THE COMPUTER!!! THE COM-PU-TER!!!
Alan Turing - Gay man and âfather of computingâ Wren operating Bombe - The code cracking computers of the 2nd world war were entirely run by women Katherine Johnson - African American NASA mathematician and âHuman computerâ Ada Lovelace - arguably the 1st computer programmerâ
- Sacha Coward
Also Margaret Hamilton - NASA computer scientist who put the first man on the moon - an as-yet-unmatched feet of software engineering, here pictured beside the full source of that computer programme. #myhero
Grace Hopper - the woman that coined the term âbugâ Â
- @robinlayfield
Grace Hopper did more than coin the term âbugâ. She invented the first program linker in the early 1950s, for the UNIVAC I. A program linker translates instructions from one language to another (for example, numerical codes that represent instructions translated to machine code that computers can read), which is the very foundation of how computerâs operate independently. she also pulled a steve rogers and tried to enlist in the military a bunch of times and was denied. then, an exception was made for her when she joined the navy reserves, and she ended up serving for over 40 years (half of which was active duty). she retired from the navy Rear Admiral Grace Hopper. she was born in NYC in 1906. Grace Hopper was a fucking badass.
also computing was typically a job for women (many of whom were black women that made incredible contributions) back in the day, so itâs absolutely fucking wild that straight white men think they are the foundation of computer innovation. men PUSHED women out and took the credit.
Reblogging to do what the failed education system never did.
letâs not forget the incredible women who made it possible for india to go to mars!
The BBC meets three Indian female scientists who prove that rocket science is not a male preserve.
THIS IS EVERYTHING THANK YOU SO MUCH MANGO FOR ADDING INDIA
anyway
