It’s a chilly day, the skies are gray and life for Lou is more confusing than ever. She chuckles, a hunt of self-deprecation seeps in to the sound, and it causes her to stop. Who knew that her life would become such a cliché that even the weather knew how she felt. Standing in front of Sam’s prison, the “home” that she was kicked out of all those years ago, filled with the family that stood inside in the warmth while she froze to death outside, anger begins to rise heavy in the back of her throat. She coughs for a few seconds, trying to expel it as fast as she can because meeting up with the new, clueless and reverted Sam angry is not recommended. She’s supposed to keep things light, not let the tsunami of feelings she has bubbling beneath the surface crash over the both of them. She has to contain it better than that if she wants to win her over.
Lou sucks in a frosty deep breath, and exhales it just as fast. “Deep breaths, kid. You’re the only one who can make this happen, who can patch the crater sized holes in all of their stories, their hearts.” But trying to calm herself down, just ends up working her up more than before. She knows the real way to give herself a level head, so she sings to herself for a few seconds, before bucking up and walking over to their secret meeting place. Pig isn’t there yet, so Lou leans against the fence and waits. It’s an agonizing couple of minutes, as she goes over in her head all the different tactics she has to employ to get Sam to remember. In all honesty, she never expected them to get this fucked up. She understood that they all were flawed, that they all had enough baggage to fill a couple hundred commercial planes, but this kind of fucked up bullshit was so much more than she ever could have imagined. This kind of stuff could only happen in Barton Hollow, and for a moment, it made her wish she had been born somewhere else, that the magic that surrounded them could be flushed out and they could just be normal. But then Skyler wouldn’t be Skyler, and Andrew wouldn’t be Andrew, and Sam wouldn’t be alive and she’d have never have met Scar. So, no matter what this town brought regarding shit storms, in the end, it was all worth it as long as they ended up together.
But to make it all worth it… she had to get them back together, which was proving well, difficult, to say the least. She watches as Sam sneaks out the back of her house, and slinks over to meet Lou. The bile in her mouth rising at seeing what she’s been reduced to, at seeing her anywhere near the house that held such bitter bitter memories. Sam smiles a kind of small thing, and it clenches at Lou’s heart. There was once a time, where Sam held no confusion over her feelings for the pack, where Lou was her best friend. But that was in the past, at least now it was. They had a chance at a future, a chance at reuniting into something, something different… but at least, something. And she wanted it, she needed it. They all did. And the weight of it fell on her shoulders, as a lot of things usually did. But that’s what she had built herself up for wasn’t it? She was the survivor, the fighter, the one that could withstand anything. The world just had a funny idea of whatanything was.
”Hi.” She says through a clenched smile, only slightly as warm as it used to be. She watches as Sam’s brows furrow as she replies with a simple, demure, “Hi, back." Lou chokes back tears, takes a deep breath, and dives in. Because there’s really no time to breakdown, and this is how their world gets patched back together, through past memories slowly spoken, and a shattered friendship slowly piecing back together.
