莲花

     the clap of fox’s hand on his shoulder nearly startled ren in its power, and he looked up at the older boy with a curious expression. he’d noticed the way fox’s eyes widened when he spoke, but he wasn’t quite able to put his finger on what sort of reaction that was in order to respond to it. he was quiet for a moment, thinking on vulpine words as fox spoke, truly letting himself consider the suggestion. he knew he should have more confidence in his voice, but solidifying his position in a conversation was far easier said than done, considering the very talkative people he surrounded himself with. perhaps spending some time with fox would be beneficial to his confidence — either that or he would be crushed under the weight on his chest every time the huntsman-in-training touched him. “it’s easier to talk to you,” ren began, voice back to his usual even tone. he dropped his gaze for a moment. “you listen just as much as you speak. i like that about you.”

     “admittedly, i had hoped a first kiss would be less... tragic, but i cannot blame you for your decision.” ren simply gazed at her for a moment, expression unchanging, and he tipped his head to the side. “i might have done the same thing, given my feelings, and the same situation. what you did was supposed to be a sincere goodbye.”
