I donāt know about anyone else but Iām at the point where Iād happily give up any real romance between Chenford this season if we could just get them to write Lucy with some respect for her character (and Lopez and Harper as well).
Iāve seen people say that the writersā room hasnāt changed (whichā¦how) so I guess the answer is that this is the first season that didnāt have Nolan as a T.O. and they also lost a series regular but damn have they completely lost the heart of the show.
Harper, Lopez and Chen were three badass POC women in law enforcement. Suddenly theyāve all been sidelined for romantic relationships instead of real police work, or in Lucyās case, just completely sidelined as a character. Iām pretty sure she was higher on the call sheet, but at this point youād assume both Tim and Bailey have jumped her.
It sounds like in terms of viewership the show is down but still probably fine, which makes me concerned that these changes are here to stay. Nolan was always the central character, but the show used to center around three rookies, and with one having left the show it seems like theyāve just left the other in the dust.
No Chenford arc is going to be given the respect that it deserves until that issue is addressed.
So here is my usual thing of breaking down post episode thoughts. As you can guess, I'm neither surprised nor pleased with where we got to. I'll save the Chenford chat this time because honestly, it's the same comments as before and I'm covering it in the asks I'm getting. It's not like there was much to look at.
I think the major issue with this season is the level of disconnect among the characters. It is so at odds with the closely interwoven stories of s1-2 where we really felt everyone in the core cast was playing for the same team, working towards the same goal.
What has changed?
Nowadays, everyone is off doing their own thing in visually very separate settings with completely unrelated plotlines.
When they used to all go out on patrol, there was a synchronisation, a unity to the way an episode was framed. Even if they were in different local storylines, the core six would be shown within the same routines, the same parameters of action. There was body cam and shop cam footage reminding us they were all in the same boat. They'd call on one another as backup, and they'd typically regroup at some point to link everyone back up by the end of the episode.
Now we watch three or four distinct siloes, separately, with too many non-police characters to make this cohesive.
We have the main bucket which is always Nolan, who takes up the bulk of the screen time and is typically doing 'policing', albeit not as we used to see since he's now some kind of 007 action hero instead of rookie cop. Bailey is his entirely unnecessary bond girl. They're typically seen out in the field in a range of settings, interacting with new guest characters every week, and there's an air of holier than thou about them that's suffocating the ensemble dynamic.
We then have a further bucket with Wesley and Angela who have this season's B-plot. Wesley's scenes are mostly with outsiders and feel quite manufactured to give a reason for Wesley to even be on-screen at all - which he is. He's effectively the second leading man right now. He's the only one besides Nolan with a heavy storyline. Meanwhile, Angela's scenes are at a desk in the precinct or with Wesley at home. She is no longer a roaming agent and most of her content relates to home and family, so she feels cut off from everyone else and underinvolved.
We then have Harper, who fluctuates a bit. She almost got set up to be the only remaining classic T.O., but this has largely been sidelined. Thorsen hasn't appeared in a while and even when he did, half the dialogue was about personal relationships. The police scenes were limited. So the only remaining link to the rookie dynamic we know was so successful isn't even being explored. Most of Harper's content is about her love life and family too. So she feels cut off from everyone else and underinvolved.
Then finally, there's Lucy and Tim. I said I wouldn't get into it with Chenford but it's glaringly, painfully obvious how they've decimated the role Chenford had in this show. Lucy and Tim combined on patrol showed the light and the dark of the job. Tim's experience and Lucy's empathy. Together they teased out the conflict that simply being alive brings, all the difficulty and the wrong turns and the doing your best but losing anyway. None of that exists in the show anymore. There aren't any moral dilemmas, there aren't any moments of true pain. I've spoken at great length about the way Lucy has been treated, but suffice to say, she feels cut off from everyone else and underinvolved.
A further point is that the show has lost its physical grounding in the city setting. I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but we don't see much of the everyman's Los Angeles anymore. Everything has been dialled up on the extravagance scale. Criminals aren't ordinary people anymore, they're master criminals and gang bosses and serial killers and ex-secret service and... group of rich wives? There aren't any grey areas, either. Everyone is either rotten to the core or they're a joke criminal.
Before, we'd see our characters delving into run down and regular homes and businesses, we'd see poverty and pain and mediocre crime and futility and grey areas. We'd see genuine loss and subverted expectations. Now I'm not surprised, I'm not intrigued, I'm not relieved. I'm just... nothing.
This show has lost sight of what it set out to do. And that wasn't give crude, trashy scenes based around getting a flash of an actor's chest. It wasn't about virtue signalling or clear cut morality either. But that's where we've landed.
I wasnāt going to do a recap because so many people have done amazing reviews which I wholeheartedly agree with but hereās my two cents.
I didnāt like the Nolan/arsonist sl, it felt almost comical at times and downright painful to watch at other times. Still couldnāt care less about Bailey, at first I was indifferent now Iām just pissed sheās taking so much screentime from other characters (Harper/Angela/Lucy/Grey..) so make it stop show nobody is watching for her and Iām not here for the Nolan/Bailey ship at all. š
Iām relieved Wesley finally told the truth to Angelaā¦ I wish we got more Angela and the team.
Chenford scenes were cute ā¦ but once again gave us no development. I didnāt see any ust/feelings/š„ during the van scene and the last scene was just a no for me. I love them really but since the beginning of the season ( Iād argue even before in s3) something has been missing.

Last week episode was a good one, I enjoyed the Jerry storyline, I actually liked the chenford scenes because I could see the chemistry between them (which was lacking imo since the premiere).
I donāt know what to feel about Ashley I mean Iām not worried at all about her I know sheās not going to last š but Iām really hoping she will serve a purpose, maybe help Chenford realize their feelings or see them interact and be like āIām not going to interfere between you, there is something there and I donāt want to be in the middle of that !ā
I for one donāt think they have romantic feelings yet, we have barely see them be friends to be honest, I need to see them develop that friendship first, we need to see them hang out outside work, be at each other house, be comfortable with each other company. I just want them to become each other favorite person which is not yet the case. Then of course I want to see the UST, the yearning, the jealousy, the mutual pining, at this point in their story it doesnāt feel earned.
Iām not worried to see Chenford happen tbh I think theyāll happen I just need the journey to be consistent and enjoyable. We need them to be an amazing SLOW burn, Iām all for the show to emphasize on the slow but we need to see development, the burn need a little fire to start.
They have so much potential, I canāt wait to see whatās going to happen in this week episode, Iām just hoping for their relationship to evolve a little bit.
Finally watched the latest episode and the best part was the Pete/Nolan storyline surprisingly, it was fun. Pete is such an over the top character but so entertaining.
I donāt know what to feel about Nyla and Donovan cheating, I hate those kind of storylines tbh. Lucy and Tamara are cute and all but I donāt have feelings about them are they supposed to have a sisters or daughter/mother relationship? Iām wondering bc of the eggs/kids/adoption storyline.
Chenford was just āthereā like they didnāt give me any feels, the talk about eggs and everything was fine I guess but they do not appear to have any feelings for each other. The writers really missed a chance to have them have a really heartfelt conversation to bring out their feelings idk āyouāll be an amazing mother someday*hearteyes* and youāll be such a great dad *stare at each other for several secondsā that would have been amazing and feel like progressionā¦. I know we still are at the beginning of the season so Iām going to be patient but Iām worried of the way the writers are writing them and wondering if they will write them in a believable way when the time comesā¦
Ohhh the best part of the episode tbh was the lack of Bailey š and it was a nice filler episode thatās all.

So I just finished watching the episode and I mean it was an okay-ish episode Iād say.
What I liked :
- Tim becoming sergeant, Iām excited to see him develop in his new role and see his struggles and accomplishments.
- Nylaās new rookie, Iām hoping heās not really a murderer but his determination to become a police officer made me relate to him.
- Lucy and Tamara last scene ā¦ yeah that got me a little teary-eyed not going to lie. I donāt expect anything from the show anymore when it comes to Jackson, that scene was their way of saying āyou see we didnāt forget about himā but Iām pretty sure it is.
- Last but not least the Chenford of it all, I loved the locker scene, the little smile from Tim at the end was too cute, i definitely think prank is their way of flirting ā¦ we will see how the writers will take it from here.
What I didnāt like :
- Bailey: Iām sorry I donāt care one bit about her as an individual and I definitely donāt give two ***** about Nolan and her, their relationship donāt make any sense whatsoever I guess the writers think we should care because sheās a hot firefighter but that makes it that much less believable.
- the plot of the episode, that criminal Claire like okā¦ at this point Iām only watching for the characters to be honest.
Special mention to the Gray/Bradford team up, it was one of the things I like the most in the episode especially because we got such good quotes like : ā I know youāve got decades more experienceā āwoah hey oh a decadeā that made me laugh
Man of the moment Keanu Reeves has shown his generosity by giving away Ā£50 million of his earnings from the Matrix sequels. The 38-year-old decided to hand over the money to the unsung heroes of the sci-fi blockbusters - the costume and special effects teams.
Keanu Reeves is like the nicest person. He still lives in an apartment/flat and he gives most of his money away to charities and people who need it. He even invites some paparazzi people to sit down and eat with him when heās at a coffee shop or restaurant. Heās such a nice person.
When I was working on the UWS, one of my delivery guys accidentally backed his scooter into a parked car in front of the restaurant. I went out to help, since the driver didnāt speak much English, and it turned out the car belonged to Keanu Reeves. He helped us pick the scooter up, and when I asked if we could exchange insurance information (because the front of the car was pretty banged up), he kept telling us not to worry about it and put his hand on the driverās shoulder and said āI just want to make sure youāre okay, man. Are you okay?ā And he was so sincere about it and so kind that I decided in that moment I would always defend Keanu Reeves at all costs. He is an excellent man.
My wife and I were dining at Nobuās in Honolulu and sitting across from us was Keanu or at least I thought it was. We kept talking about whether it was him or not and finally, I decided to throw some old school Bill & Ted at him.
I stood up and threw my arms up into the motion of an air guitar, my wife is begging me to sit back down, and I pointed at the guy who may be Keanu Reeves, and said, āMost Excellent.ā
He stood up and did it back at me. Then we both had a moment and pointed at each other. I sent him another of whatever it was he was drinking. It was a cucumber sake martini. That was the end of it.
Or so I thought.
He left before we finished our meal. By the time we were done, dessert came that we didnāt order. We thought, āoh, must be compliments of the chef.ā Then the bill never came. When we asked for it, our waitress said Keanu Reeves took care of it.
IT WAS REALLY HIM. And he left a note. It said, āthanks for the refresh. Keanu.ā
When I finally saw him again years later, because of work. I brought it up. Then he air guitar and said, āmost excellent. I remember. At Nobuās. Thanks for the drink.ā We chatted a bit and I got an autograph for my mum because sheās a huge Keanu fan. Then that was that.
Back when I first moved to NYC, I got a job as a theater usher. We were all young, 18-20 or so, and it was heavily impressed upon us that we needed to treat the theatergoers with TOTAL respect at ALL times or risk our jobs. As such, we were all totally underprepared for the drunk guy who tried to steal a bottle of wine from the lobby bar during intermission. We were trying to politely get the bottle back, but he was growing loud and belligerent. Since the second act was now starting, this was a countdown to all of us being in trouble.Ā
Then Keanu walks up. Calmly charms the guy. Slips the usher behind the bar cash to cover the bottle, without the guy even noticing, and walks him back in to his seat like itās a normal thing he does every day. He didnāt know the guy, didnāt know any of us, but effortlessly deescalated the situation and quite probably saved some jobs that night.Ā
