Children in her stronghold also have necklaces that are representative of their place. The teeth are representative of what # of child you are(Lark is the second child to her mother), and then the beads are representative of which chieftain wife is your mother(Lark’s mom is the 4th wife of the chieftan). While mothers all generally raise their children together, clothing and what not are all passed around, ranks and status were also important in her stronghold. Later, teens are scarified with their “position” and no longer have to wear the necklaces, which are seen as being “childish” because of their purpose.
