Most depictions of the KiY I've seen in this fandom so far have used some type of shadowy arms or tentacles, but what if we tried impossibly long parchment strips? A god of knowledge has to have paper on hand, after all - and the paper cuts would be killer.))

((This AU needed a design for Hastur, so...here we go?
I tried not to take too much from other designs I've seen out there (even though they're all REALLY cool) and still keep him looking familiar. Some design elements had to match Lady Pteria (since this AU has them part of the same species/eldritch exes) and I was aiming for a scholarly vibe to fit the whole 'infinite knowledge' thing.
The back of Hastur's cloak is actually made from the torn pieces of Lady Pteria's wings that were left behind after their big fight; they were the only pieces of her he had left for a few thousand years so he kept them close. It's either morbidly wholesome or gruesomely arrogant and I can't decide which it is better.
He hides his face behind a deep hood, a veil, a mask, and supernatural shadows but still very insecure about the damage he's hiding, and lashes out at anyone who sees him without the veil. Poor D3rlord3.))

About half the size they used to be, due to injuries taken millions of years prior.
When in motion or in flight, the edges appear to tatter and drip, like melting wax, but never leave a residue.
Capable of lifting her and a handful of mortals for short flights but not sustained soaring anymore.
Hands:
Primary arms have four finges and a thumb, each with a short but sharp claw at the end, and are similar to human hands in appearance.
Secondary arms have three fingers and a thumb, each with a sharp talon on the end, and are similar to owl talons in appearance.
Fingers on primary hands darken from gray to black from the knuckles on, as if her hands are stained with ink from countless hours of writing.
Arms:
Secondary arms are about half the length of the primary ones.
Primary arms are strong but not moreso than the average member of her species.
Secondary arms have the strongest grip strength.
Crown:
Actually made from stone tablets and inscribed with as much of the history of her civilization as she could remember (in as small a font as she could manage).
Edges are very sharp and it can be used as a weapon in a pinch.
Always floating above her via magic bc it's actually very, VERY heavy.

Major accessories include her crown, which I completely redesigned bc the original design from the sketch just wasn't working in the lineart, her mask (distinctly owl-esque now bc it's cool), and her high-collared shawl. The headcanon is she stole it from Hastur back when they were together and bleached all the color out of it when they broke up.))
Lady Pteria, leaning over Derek & Avery: "Mine."
Hastur: "No, they-. You can't take them. They belong to me."
Lady Pteria, picking up Derek & Avery: "And now they belong to me."
Hastur, totally not sulking: "You can't just take my humans!"
Lady Pteria, already walking away with her arms full: "Yes I can. You don't know how to take care of them, anyway."
Hastur, offended: "My Lady, I have infinite knowledge-"
Lady Pteria: "And you do jack shit with it!"
Lady Pteria, pointing at Derek: "Just look at what you've done to this one - the poor thing has anxiety!"
Hastur, defensively: "I found him that way!"

More unwritten SFAWTDE/DAWTDExmy blog fanfic worldbuilding thoughts this time about the unknowable entities to get them out of my head, GO!:
For the purposes of this setting there are two major named entities: Hastur/The King in Yellow and Lady Pteria.
Hastur/The King in Yellow is known (or really unknown by modern times) as a god of knowledge and consequences and Lady Pteria is not known as any kind of deity to humans but is known as something eldritch in the fae community.
(This Hastur isn't specifically the same character written by Chambers or Lovecraft - much like Wifies, we're just taking inspiration from the sources, not all things wholesale).
Both are members of a race of beings that had settled parts of Earth in the eras before humanity and both are survivors of its destruction (the Chixulub impact).
Hastur claims to be 175 million years old to Lady Pteria's 145 million, and to general human comprehension, they're about the same in age.
They are far, FAR older than any member of their race would usually live to be due discovering forbidden knowledge about immortality.
Whereas Hastur collects knowledge purely for the sake of knowing all, Lady Pteria collects knowledge for the sake of preserving it (hence her 'human' alias running a museum in Sigil City).
They hate each other. Passionately. Make of that descriptor what you will.
Hastur became trapped in MInecraft after being summoned by a village of sentient video game NPCs; because he had little to no knowledge about modern "children's games" he found himself unable to leave, and thus began his search for a vessel to inhabit and escape.
My boy is already technically wearing medieval formalwear wherever he goes, so there wasn’t much to do to dress him up any further and still convince him to actually be seen in public…but thanks to input from a few friends, I think we found a nice balance!
Don’t be fooled by his calm demeanor and cool pose, though. Gawain is speed running a panic attack in there.))
Unwritten SFAWTDE/DAWTDExmy blog fanfic worldbuilding thoughts just so I can get them out of my head, GO!:
Derek and Avery both die in the process of confronting the King in Yellow.
Derek's body succumbs to the stress of trying to embody an ancient unknowable deity AND infinite knowledge before the merging is complete and so the spell fails, leaving them both trapped in the game world.
Avery wasn't doing so hot either after 15 straight hours of gaming (12 of which were in a supernatural trance in which his mind was slowly being prepped for a factory reset) AND catching a glimpse of the King in Yellow in the library world, and after Derek shoved him off the platform in an attempt to save him from becoming the KiY's vessel, the stress took him out, too.
(Avery died still desperate for a way to find and save Derek, so his soul was drawn into the game world, too).
Left trapped in the Minecraft world and now deprived of both his vessel AND left reeling from probably the only real brush with true destruction he'd ever experienced, the King in Yellow kicked Derek and Avery out of his blocky domain and sealed the gate in the mines so they couldn't come back.
Both Derek and Avery's souls took on the appearance of their Minecraft skins to fit in with the world around them, and they had absolutely no say in the change.
Avery is now a humanoid slime with no real bones or organs to speak of and doesn't need to breathe, though he still does so out of pure habit. He can shapeshift (to a degree) and can survive lethal damage by either squishing flat + popping back into shape or splitting up into smaller forms (first two, then four, unknown max limit). He's honestly taking it pretty well, except for the fact that his 'skin' being translucent now makes him uncomfortable.
Derek is now at least a foot taller than he actually was, his skin is pitch-black and and his eyes are a light-emitting shade of gold. He keeps knocking his head against the top of two block doorways because he forgets to duck and is low-key afraid to look at his own reflection for fear that he won't recognize the face looking back.
Derek and Avery were found in a desert biome by Arthur/"Ace", who thought they were just AFK strangers and left them there on his way to pick up Gawain from the world spawn. Neither had moved by the time he came back through, and Gawain got very antsy and insisted they bring them both back to base.
Avery wakes up first, then Derek, and they both have a crisis or two (as a treat).
I don't know if they have any canon home locations so I'm slapping them both somewhere in Sigil City limits bc supernatural bullshit is pretty common in Sigil City so the whole story of having to fight a malevolent force in a children's game would be pretty believable.
Lord Aetherius is horrified to learn that Derek was struggling with the burden of infinite knowledge and being stuck staring at his screen for three whole months before he died and takes personal responsibility for not stepping in sooner.
(This is my fix-it worldbuilding and I will give these two a happy ending if it kills me).
The King in Yellow is still trawling for a proper vessel to return to reality and is still placing his cursed Minecraft world on random devices to lure in more Players but he's much more cautious now about who he tries to directly interact with as he grapples with his own perceived mortality.
Lady Pteria is quite offended that the King in Yellow/Hastur tried to come through to the mortal plane through HER son's city.
I have a TON more worldbuilding just for how the world of NPCs/Mobs/Players/etc. works out to be 'just a game' on the real world side and something much more nuanced on the Minecraft side but that'll have to be its own post.
