bowl  of  popcorn  is  perched  on  the  couch  between  the  two  of  them.  her  hand  absentmindedly  takes  another  handful,  which  she  pours  into  her  mind  as  she  watches  the  protagonists  sneak  off into  some  kind  of  haunted  house.  she  can  feel  the  tremors  of  the  bass  in  the  background  music  in  her  bones.    “  but  see, this  is  what  i  don’t  get,  ”    she  then  starts,  her  perked  up  voice  disturbing  the  false  sense  of  dread  building  in  the  film  as  she  turns  to  her  companion.  a  certified  scream  queen  must  have  the  answer  to  such  questions.    “  why  is  it  such  a  horror  trope  that  two  of  the  main  characters  go  have  sex  in  a  haunted  house,  or  some  part  of  the  woods  where  some  kids  went  missing  years  ago?  that  definitely wouldn’t  get  me  in  the  mood.  ”

“  we’ve  already  messed  it  up.  ”    pair  of  blue  hues  is  glued  to  her  phone,  where  a  recipe  for  chocolate  chip  cookies  brightens  her  screen.  she  had  just mentally  walked  through  the  list  of  ingredients,  to  double  check  she  had  picked  everything  up  on  her  shopping  trip  only  to  reach  the  first  step  of  the  recipe.    “  apparently  we  need  softened  butter,  ”    she  murmurs  with  a  sour  tone  as  she  nods  over  at  the  ice  cold  stick  of  butter  that  lays  on  her  kitchen  counter.    “  is  it  too  soon  to  quit  while  we’re  ahead  and  pick  up  cookies  at  the  bakery  three  blocks  over?  ”

“  do  you  trust  me?  ”     there  is  an  almost  grievous  tone  to  his  voice.  one  that  would  have  felt  out  of  character  for  santiago,  if  it  weren’t  for  the  slurred  nature  of  them.  he  looks  to  milo,  the  two  of  them  standing  eye  to  eye  as  he  moves  to  lay  one  of  his  hands  on  his  shoulder.     “  if  this  is  going  to  work,  you’ll  have  to  trust  me.  ”

scoff  falls  from  his  lips  as  he  feels  their  gaze  burn  onto  his  skin.  his  head  then  cocks,  and  eyes  widen  as  he  takes  them  into  his  line  of  sight.    “  what’s  that  smug  look  for?  ”    he  lets  out  in  protest  as  both  his  hands  land  on  his  hips  in  an  exaggerated  stance  of  confidence.  now  he  may  not  be  a  natural,  but  he  doesn’t  doubt  they  will  also  be  fooled  by  how  easy  it  seems.    “  you  really  think  you  can  do  better  than  that?  ”
