I have a kind of meditation bucket list. I want to meditate at all of the “navels” of the world. All over the world in ancient sites you find one mysterious thing: a small standing stone, in the shape of a tablet or a cone, in the midst of all the other temple grandeur. They are called “omphalos”, Greek for “navel” and they are supposed to mark the locus of the “axis mundi” or “axis of the world” and to be places of great power. 

There is one in front of the Sphinx in Egypt

One in Machu Picchu in Peru

Another at the Oracle of Delphi in Pythia, Greece

Another is under the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem

Omphalos of Chiang Rai, Thailand

The others are located at Stonehenge in England, the Great Serpent Mound in Ohio, Chitzen Itza, the ancient Shiva Linga base at the Cát Tiên sanctuary, Lâm Đồng Province, Vietnam.
