Stygian is a NightWing who was born and raised on the volcanic island. His father left to patrol the secret tunnel perimeter on the mainland, only to never return. Soon after that, his mother died of a "broken heart" (it was grief mingled with respiratory problems she'd had since she was young). All this happened when Stygian was four, and he was left with the notion that he was "too much" for his father to handle (causing him to leave) and "not enough" for his mother (causing her to die). This has led him to grow up with the belief that he has to maintain a delicate balance in any relationship he had, if he even had any relations to maintain at all. I think his circumstances led him to become a tunnel guard, but only because he was of age and there was a desperate need for that role to be filled. If there were more NightWings that had survived for that long, then Stygian likely would not have been picked (he's pretty scrawny). And then the island blows up and everyone moves to the mainland, where Stygian has to rebuild his life. Well, what life he had anyway.

Shrimp is a SeaWing who is, well... undeniably and invariably strange. She's quiet, but not necessarily unconfident. In fact, she's quite secure in how she carried herself. She simply does not feel the need to engage in conversations that don't interest her or interact with dragons that would not understand her. Though, that doesn't mean she never speaks up. Oftentimes, she'll sit in the middle of the room (or relatively close to it, it's the best place to listen in on conversations), and if she hears something interesting, she'll put in her own thoughts. Sometimes her words are actually fairly wise and thoughtful (in a way most can understand anyway). And other times it's cryptic and vague and just unsettling enough that it nips at your mind because what did she mean by that. I am compiling a playlist for her at the moment. I will reblog this post when I am done* with it. How these two meet is something I am completely unsure about. But I know they are friends because I want them to be. *when i say "done" with it i mean that it is a respectable enough size that i don't feel guilty by posting a miniscule 15 minute long playlist

Piper can't sleep alone. At least not well. It's always is her and Nat. It used to be that their father would read to them, but that's past.

Piper has a photographic memory - nothing to rival Nick's, of course - but she will pay close attention to her partner and their outfits.

She gets really bad headaches. The kind where she will melt like honey to have a good scalp massage. Occasionally she will ask Sole to scooch and sit behind her so they can massage her scalp, but it's a rare thing and she does her best to be polite through the aching.

She always wants to be on the ball when it comes to Christmas or birthdays, and what better way to give a good gift then to know what the receiver will use.

She's many things and nosey is one of them. This results in her doing things that seem a bit creepy at a glance. Sole becomes a frequent topic of her journal. She notes their mood, their health, anything that made them smile, etc.

Piper is very particular about her stationary. Nothing that she uses herself, it would get ruined immediately, but things she collects with the hope of gifting them to Nat or Sole.

Never forgets an event. Ever. And she's insistent no one else forgets either. She will remind everyone when Sole's birthday comes around with ample time for them to be ready. Unless Sole asks her not to. Then she will vibrate quietly and nod.

Clear communication is vital to her. She is very good at listening to Sole and asking questions to understand their perspective fully, but when it comes to her own emotions? She's a bit more muddled.

Piper struggles being openly vulnerable. Partly because she's wanted dead by a good few people, partly because she's been on her own taking care of Nat for so long. This causes her to sometimes neglect to explain to Sole how she's feeling, or dismiss her own emotions bubble over and it leads to a fight or a good cry in Sole's arms.

She runs cold. And she has no mercy for Sole if they run warm. No matter how they yelp each night when she dives under the duvet to steal their warmth: she will not relent.
