okay so I just pulled these from the molds and holy shit. holy shit???

HOLY SHIT?

This is the second new technique I try with this project. The other one is called Russian join, which is a technique used to join two ends of yarn together. Usually, with nålbinding, you splice the ends togehter, but that is not always possible (like with this yarn, for some odd reason - it is 100 % wool and not superwash, so theoretically it should work, but it doesn't 🙄 ).

So, anyway, all in all, I'm quite happy with it, despite the smaller mistakes I made. But then again, a friend told me that the Irish say that all handmade projects need to have some small flaws. You usually put your heart and soul into making them, and the flaws allow it to get back out 😉

i can’t count the number of times i’ve been knitting or embroidering something and someone is like “oh can you make me one?” and then they get offended when i tell them they’d have to pay me.

real talk: nice yarn/wool is expensive. sewing machines are expensive. for every handmade skirt or stuffed animal you see online there are at least a half-dozen prototypes in the creator’s closet that can’t be sold.

and that’s not even getting into the time spent on these projects. i have some things i’ve probably spent in excess of 100 hours on. i can’t even fathom making a living wage knitting stuff, because nobody would ever pay that much.

When I talk to people about money, most agree that a good and reasonable hourly wage is around 100 SEK. For me, to make a dress completely by hand (i.e. the last one I made for my larp costume), takes about 15 hours, but that's just the sewing. That does not include the time I spent choosing and preparing fabrics, or the cost for the material itself.

So, let's add another five hours of work, and 3 meter wool, app. 300 SEK/meter. What I actually _should_ be paid for a handmade dress would be (20*100)+(3*300)=2000+900=2900 SEK.
