carrie fisher is a woman who struggled with addiction and mental illness and never sugar coated it - she spoke honestly, openly, about every ugly truth, and made me so much less ashamed of the things i struggle with in my daily life.

carrie fisher is a woman who fought back against body shaming and misogyny, against agesim, who looked at critics and said “yes, i am a woman who has aged, and had children, and struggled with depression and addiction and my body has changed, so you can just shut the fuck up and deal with it”, and it was absolutely beautiful.

carrie fisher is a woman who was placed in the role of “princess” but didn’t conform to the typical hollywood idea of what a princess should be. she’s loud, brash, crass, and unapologetic for being so.

she’s an idol and an inspiration and she’s a woman who saved my life many times just by being who she was and never shying away from it or feeling the need to say sorry. carrie fisher is so much and more and i cannot begin to stomach the thought of 2016 taking her away from me, from her family, from the rest of the world and those of us who love her so dearly.

Behold the utterly badass awesomeness that is Laura Vaughn dressed in extraordinary cosplay as Imperator Furiosa from Mad Max: Fury Road, complete with a perfect replica of Furiosa’s prosthetic arm, so shiny and chrome.

Vaughn started cosplaying as Furiosa shortly after Fury Road came out, but it wasn’t until designer Michelle Sleeper of Overworld Designs contacted her that she realized her already impressively accurate cosplay could reach the next level.

A few weeks ago, designer Michelle Sleeper was looking to start one of her “holy grail” projects: “a T-800 Endo Arm, as an actual prosthetic for an amputee,” she writes in a Replica Props Forum thread. But while talking with a friend about who would be perfect for the arm, Sleeper was introduced to Vaughn, and though Vaughn was enthusiastic about the Endo Arm, Sleeper says, the gears quickly shifted to Furiosa, the perfect match of opportunity and passion.

Sleeper began by taking a 3D scan of Vaughn using an Xbox Kinect and creating a plaster mold of her limb. Then she used a 3D printer to create all the prosthetic arm components, which she painstakingly shaped, painted, and weathered to make sure it looked exactly like it came from a post-apocalyptic desert wasteland.
