So apparently the Republicans’ increased majority in the Senate won’t be by QUITE as much as we were expecting.
Good to know :-p. (The Democrats, of course, will still be having a majority in The House of Representatives now.)
What frustrates me the most is all the comments in response to this video that say, “No, the bible is totally anti-abortion because ‘Thou Shalt Not Kill’...”
If you’re uncomfortable with abortion that’s fine... frankly, I’m with you-up to a point (I think earlier I showed a video on which I commented that I really like the term “Safe, Legal, and Rare” :-p)- but that doesn’t change the fact that the whole point here is that The Bible doesn’t actually define abortion (or, for that matter, causing a miscarriage) as “killing” in the first place, so quoting the commandments is completely begging the point XD. The part cited by Cenk there isn’t even the only example of the bible making such a point XD.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think religion should have any part in deciding US law anyway, and as a UU I DO support people believing more-or-less whatever they will, but it still seems REALLY bizarre to me people are trying to use a book to support something when the book actually says the opposite of what they’re asserting XD.
To be clear, because people are so high strung with partisan politics these days, I should probably clarify that my sharing of that last video wasn’t meant as personally judgemental towards anyone or their kinks... especially because i can see the appeal of both the listed “rep kinks” and the listed “dem kink” (as fantasies, at least).
I know I’m otherwise pretty clearly Left leaning on here, so just wanted to be clear that this was not an attempt to kink shame republicans...
... I’m, with few exceptions, against “kink shame” in general :-p.

Hey, just a heads-up that Games Done Quick Express is starting and will be running until the end of the weekend (that’s, Oct. 26-28)... just like Awesome Games Done Quick and Summer Games Done Quick it’s a speedrun marathon for charity, albeit a slightly shorter one and the charity aspect is being handled slightly differently (but you still donate the same way, and they have gifts and insentives, just like the other GDQ events), so if (watching) videogames and/or supporting charity appeals to you go check it out.
Literally no excuse ^^^
Anyway I’ve never heard someone say this but these are some excellent references for all you artists out there! Wow! Cool! Good for all you artists out there!
This is a very bad strawman argument, but the references are good.
I’d forgotten the Soul-Eater examples <3.
Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is the latest in a long line of Republicans who apparently need to start eating dinner at home more often, ...
I’ve always had mixed feelings on the notion of pestering politicians during their down-time... but Farron Cousins actually makes an interesting point here!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POKIW9sCWCA < As is too often the case, the title isn’t perfectly descriptive... the video is actually about “Christian Democrats of America”...
On a side note, this may be the first time I heard the term , “Safe, Legal, and Rare” on the topic of abortion. Not the first time I’ve heard that general stance (I honestly think it’s a good stance :-p), but I think it’s the first time I’ve heard the specific term. Good to know the shorthand :-p.
Guy Dammann: We're under enough pressure to look a certain way – the last thing we need is scientific research that makes us feel even more inadequate
An interesting read. For my own part, BTW, I think one of the most frustrating things about the scientific studies that people frequently interpret as “proof of universal standards of beauty” is... well, pretty much just that: People misinterpret them as proof of universal standards of beauty XD. In reality, there are scientific studies finding a great range of different things that contribute to how people interpret beauty. Some of them seem to be common leanings across the species, some of them seem to be cultural, and some of them seem to be very personal. What’s good about the scientific studies is they pinpoint the leanings and explain how and what the cultural influences are, but the thing people frequently overlook is that those studies also show that these factors are 1: Leanings, not absolutes, 2: Numerous and, 3: In any given person, interact in complex fashions. Another thing people tend to overlook is that the proof of those cultural trends is actually all the more reason NOT to go around trying to say, “Well, X is objectively more beautiful and if you think otherwise you’re just wrong.” As the above article touches on, beauty is still somewhat subjective and while, sure, the human species tends to have instinctive leanings, culture also plays a role and looking at scientific studies discussing both those leanings and cultural norms and trying to go from there to arguing, “Therefor X is beautiful and anyone who disagrees with me is objectively wrong...” is not only dubious, it can (if sufficiently normalized) have the socially deleterious effect of further narrowing the cultural understanding of beauty, pushing out people that could otherwise be both confident and admired. NOOOT that I can’t see merit to the argument that overly transfixing on physical beauty is a bad thing in its own right, but this still doesn’t change the fact that it’s maddeningly frustrating to see people (often people that should know better) who keep misunderstanding “Multiple Scientific Studies” as saying how beauty is defined absolute across the species when that’s such an obviously gross and harmful oversimplification. How people define beauty is diverse and unique, and while science might have found some interesting trends in how we come to define it that doesn’t change the fact that the bottom line is it’s still diverse and unique, so please, keep this in mind, and don’t contribute to the societal trend of trying to argue otherwise. ‘Cause that, itself, is hideous :-p.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Handheld Game Ad (1989)
Scan from Retro Ads
Honestly, I find these old handhelds to be something of a lost art-form. The limitations of the medium made their (hard wired) design almost as interesting as the games themselves. And there was something quaint (albeit mockably so) about their attempts to “emulate” other games designed for much more sophisticated consoles XD.
