I work at a salad themed franchise that is not very popularly known (at the moment, it’s definitely going to get there our sales have doubled every year so far) that is open until 9pm. You would not believe how busy we have been getting late at night. Why do people want salad so late??? We get customers Daily who come in less than five minutes before we close and even after close to get their salad (and don’t even get it to go!)

So today, 5 minutes before closing, a customer comes in, goes through the line and pays, and then asks us if we knew our dumpster was on fire. My shift lead kinda laughed at first bc she thought he was joking, especially since there was absolutely no urgency in telling us this. She eventually decided it was worth checking, and lo and behold our dumpster was actually on fire.

It’s important to note that our dumpster appears to actually be contained in the building, since our store and the store we share the dumpster with are connected by the wall that hides the dumpster from the parking lot. There isn’t a ceiling in the dumpster “room” (thankfully), but both our stores are only separated from it by the wall, so when my shift lead saw it she naturally came running right back and evacuated everyone from the building.

The fire was spreading on the floor since there was a bit of oil leaking out of it, but the fire department put it out before it did any structural damage. It’s a good thing too, and I didn’t know this before a firefighter pointed it out, because both stores main gas lines are in the dumpster room, so there could have been a much bigger problem if we hadn’t found out when we did.
