“It’s only the second time this term,” he replied with no real eagerness to defend his mistake in his tone. It was no secret that some found the Weasley girl frigid, but Lorcan shared no such sentiment. He never thought ill of her and didn’t understand how anyone could. Then again, he didn’t harbor hate or resentment for anyone.
“What are you reading?”
“Didn’t the semester just start?” She finally tore her eyes from the pages to glance at Lorcan, one eyebrow raised. Anyone else might have taken the slight void in her tone as cold, but that wasn’t the true case. It was the tone she’d adopted a long time ago. In her experience, it had kept her sensitivity at bay. “It’s about the goblin rebellion. Very detailed.”
“Yes, it did,” he answered gladly and without really realizing why that was important. He thought he recognized streaks of grey belonging to Gilbert’s wide wing span, but couldn’t be absolutely sure unless the bird in question come closer. “Goblins are tragically misunderstood. We treat them as inferior, but they’re even more capable than humans. Smarter. Meaner too, but who wouldn’t be after being classified as secondary citizens?”
