John Steinbeck’s 1960 GMC pickup with camper dubbed “Rocinante”, after Don Quixote’s horse. Steinbeck used this truck to recreate a journey he’d taken during the depression in an old bakery truck with a mattress in the back. He wanted to reconnect with the America he’d written about years ago, so he undertook the journey in his newly built and outfitted GMC, with his standard poodle Charley gathering material for his novel “Travels With Charley”.
