Me gustaba poder hacerlo sentir mejor.
—Armando, vamos a hablar.
—Te voy a ayudar.
—Amor.
Eso casi me hizo ceder.
No sonó dominante.
No enojado conmigo.
—No.
Simplemente no quería hacerlo.
Volví a rodar hacia adelante.
Definitivamente íbamos a necesitar otra ducha.
—No.
No me había tocado.
Me estaba mirando ahora.
Simplemente me sostuvo.

After another loss, Armando comes back to the hotel tense, frustrated, and expecting the usual. Instead, you slow him down and make him stay with you.
Armando and I got a hotel after the Dallas game.
Another loss, 0–1. He’d made a few attempts at goal before getting benched in the second half, but nothing came from them. Even Brian couldn’t turn the game around when he came on; there wasn’t enough time. By the time it ended, I already knew what Armando would be like when he got back to the room: quiet, moody, stressed, replaying every mistake and missed opportunity in his head while pretending he didn’t want to talk about any of it.
I never really knew how to help him when he got like this.
That wasn’t completely true. I knew exactly how he preferred to deal with it.
Bad games usually meant angry sex, followed by the kind of aftercare that made it obvious he’d needed the closeness just as much as the release. I liked being able to make him feel better. I liked knowing I could pull him out of his head for a while, especially when he came back carrying the weight of a game like this one. But lately I’d started wondering whether I was actually helping or just giving him somewhere else to put all that frustration.
Sometimes he wouldn’t even care whether he got off himself. He’d focus completely on me instead, determined to hear me fall apart for him like it proved something. Like if he could make me come, then at least he’d managed to do one thing right that night. He fucked me hard, but with passion. It was love.
Reward or punishment, though, I wasn’t sure.
Either way, I didn’t want that to be the only way he knew how to feel better.
I heard the lock turn sometime later and looked toward the door as he came in wearing sweats, his hair still slightly damp. He must’ve showered in the locker room. There was no hello, no how are you, barely even a glance in my direction before he shut the door behind him.
I’d already fixed the bed for him, pulling the covers back on his side so he could come in, climb underneath them, and settle down without having to think about anything. My plan had been simple. Let him lie there. Scratch his back, play with his hair, maybe get him to talk if he wanted to. If he didn’t, I was perfectly fine letting him stay quiet until some of the tension finally left his body.
“Hola, mi amor.”
He looked at me, but that was about all the acknowledgment I got.
Armando pulled his shirt over his head as he crossed the room, then pushed his sweats down and stepped out of them, leaving only his briefs on. I watched him, expecting him to finally climb into bed beside me.
He did. Kind of.
Instead of going to his side, he came directly to mine.
Before I could say anything, he grabbed the blankets and pulled them away from my body. His hands closed around my thighs almost immediately, dragging me toward him until I was closer to the edge of the mattress.
“Armando…”
I could feel the tension in his grip. He wasn’t hurting me, but there was something wound tight in the way his fingers pressed into my skin, like he’d spent the entire night containing himself and had finally decided he didn’t want to anymore.
He lowered himself onto his knees between my legs, bringing mine up until my knees rested near his chest. His hands slid along my thighs and spread them apart. The movement sent my pulse straight down between my thighs. He always knew how my body would react.
“Armando.”
He ignored the warning in my voice and bent to kiss the inside of my thigh instead. Then the other. His mouth moved slowly upward, leaving warm kisses against my skin as he worked his way closer to my underwear. He suckled at the skin as he moved higher, leaving it wet, and I knew there would be soft bruises tomorrow. The heat of his breath through the thin fabric sent that same pulse straight between my legs, stronger this time.
I loved when he started this way. I loved what usually happened when he did.
But tonight, I couldn’t let him continue. Not for the reason he wanted to.
I reached down and took his face between my hands.
For a second, he looked almost confused by it. I leaned forward before he could move away and kissed him softly, nothing like the urgency he’d come into the room with. I kept my mouth gentle against his, trying to slow him down with me, and for a few seconds, he let me.
His shoulders loosened beneath my hands. One of his palms settled on my shoulder as he rose from between my knees and climbed onto the mattress, following me when I shifted farther back to make room for him. I thought maybe I’d gotten through to him until his hand slid from my shoulder to the back of my head.
His fingers tightened in my hair, tugging and moving my head where he wanted.
The kiss changed immediately.
He pulled my head back just enough to break away from my mouth and went for my neck instead, his breathing heavier against my skin. There was nothing playful about it. He wasn’t trying to be close to me. He was trying to get out of his own head, and I knew him well enough to recognize the difference.
“Armando, let’s talk.”
“Mañana.”
His answer came against my neck.
I ran my hands over his arms, trying to get him to look at me again. “Please. Talking might actually help. I’m right here, you can just tell me—”
His hand slipped between us and into my underwear before I could finish, his palm settling against me, hot and firm, as he started rubbing me in slow circles. My breath caught despite myself, my body reacting before my brain could catch up. I arched into his body. I hated that he knew me well enough to make arguing with him infinitely harder.
“Baby.” I caught his wrist gently, stopping the movement even though every part of me wanted to let him keep going. “I’ll help you. You know I will. But we need to talk this time.”
He went still for barely a second.
“Dije que hablamos mañana.” His voice was quieter now, but somehow more strained. He finally lifted his eyes to mine. “Amor.”
That almost got me.
It didn’t sound commanding. It sounded tired.
He kissed me again before I could answer, his mouth desperate against mine, and his hand came up to my face. Both of his palms closed around my cheeks as he leaned into me, trying to pull me back into the familiar rhythm we always fell into after nights like this.
I put my hands around his forearms. He immediately pulled them free.
Not hard. Not angry at me. Almost instinctively, like even having me hold onto him was one thing too many that he couldn’t control right now. I knew I really couldn’t let him do this. He couldn’t fuck me hard tonight, not angry.
“No.”
He looked at me, frustrated and breathing harder than he should have been, like he still couldn’t understand why I was making this difficult when we both knew exactly where the night usually went from here. The problem was that I wanted him too.
I slid my hands over his shoulders and pushed him gently back against the pillows. He let me, reluctantly, his eyes following me as I climbed over him and settled into his lap.
“Armando. Amor.”
His hands closed around my waist immediately, and the second my weight settled over him I felt how hard he was beneath me. He was right under me. I could feel him twitch, and he let out a small whimper as I adjusted.
It almost made me reconsider everything.
He was so tense that I could feel it everywhere: in the firmness of his grip, in the way his stomach tightened, in the heavy breath he let out through his nose as though he had been waiting for this exact moment since the final whistle. He had showered, changed, made it all the way back to the hotel, but none of that frustration had left him. It was still sitting right under his skin, looking for the same place it always went after a bad game.
Usually, I let him have it. Tonight, I started grinding against him slowly.
His eyes closed almost immediately. His head sank back into the pillow as he sucked in a breath, a low groan catching in his throat when I rolled my hips over him again. His hands tightened around my waist and pulled, trying to encourage something harder, faster, but I resisted the pressure and kept the same slow rhythm.
“Listen to me.”
I watched his face while I said it.
His brow pulled together slightly, eyes still closed, and another pass of my hips made his chest rise deeper beneath me. His fingers flexed against my waist before he tried to guide me again, harder this time, and I caught his wrists before he could turn what I was doing into what he wanted.
“That game wasn’t just on you.”
I took his hands off me and pressed them into the mattress beside him. I held them there for a second, long enough for his eyes to open and settle on my face with an expression that made it very clear he did not enjoy being told what to do.
I let him go.
His hands stayed where I put them.
“You played. You tried. You had chances.”
I kept grinding over him while I spoke, slow and deliberate even as his gaze drifted somewhere past my shoulder again. His jaw tightened and his fingers curled into the sheets beside him, but he didn’t reach for me.
“There were eleven people out there, Armando.”
He breathed out through his nose and closed his eyes again. His breath quivered.
I knew he was listening. He just didn’t want to be.
I moved against him a little slower, making him feel every second and every inch of me instead of giving him the pace he wanted. His mouth parted around another breath, his head pressing deeper into the pillow while the muscles in his arms tightened beside him.
“You don’t have to fix tonight.”
I rolled forward again. Wet.
I ran my fingers through his hair at his temple, still slightly damp from his shower. His skin wasn’t going to stay clean for long. A faint sheen was already beginning across his chest, warmth gathering beneath my palms every time I leaned into him.
“You don’t have to come back here and prove something to me.”
I pressed harder this time.
His eyes opened and dropped between us.
I followed them.
The thin fabric separating us had already darkened where we kept pressing together, the patch spreading slowly with every grind of my hips. Armando stared for a second too long and sucked in a breath, his stomach tightening visibly beneath me. The veins leading down toward where our bodies touched had started to show.
“Armando.”
His eyes lifted back to mine.
I kept moving, harder against him.
“I miss you.”
That made him stay with me. His eyes locked onto mine.
His expression barely changed, but I knew him well enough to see the difference. His eyes didn’t immediately wander away again. His fingers stopped twisting quite so tightly into the sheets.
I pushed my hand farther into his hair. He gave in but didn’t break his gaze from mine.
“I miss this version of you.”
I rolled my hips over him again and watched his reaction carefully, the way his throat worked when he swallowed and his eyes threatened to close before he forced them back open.
“The one who takes his time with me.”
His lips parted on a quiet breath.
“The one who talks to me.”
I pressed harder.
Something flickered across his face at that, almost irritation, almost amusement. Asking Armando to talk on a normal night was enough of a challenge. After a loss, it was probably insulting.
I smiled slightly and kept going.
“The one who lets me see him.”
His gaze stayed on mine.
The anger was still there. I could feel it beneath me every time his body tensed, could see it in the way his hands remained planted on either side of him even though his fingers kept flexing like he wanted nothing more than to grab my hips and pull me down harder. I knew how badly he wanted to. That made keeping the pace slow harder than I expected.
My own breathing had gotten deeper somewhere along the way. Heat was building beneath my shirt, the fabric beginning to cling between my shoulder blades, and his chest was damp enough now that my palms slipped slightly whenever I shifted my weight. I could feel how wet my underwear had become and how he was dampening his with precum.
Definitely going to need another shower.
“I like when you’re rough with me.”
His attention sharpened. His eyes dropped again, following the slow movement of my hips over him before landing on the darkened fabric between us. His chest expanded with a sharp inhale and stayed there for a second.
I watched him watch me.
“You know I do.”
My rhythm had started changing without me meaning for it to, each movement coming a little deeper, a little less measured. Armando noticed that too. His eyes lifted to my face for a second before dropping again, but his hands remained exactly where I had left them.
“But I don’t want you living there.”
His gaze returned to mine.
“Not because you think you failed.”
His face tightened briefly. I brushed my thumb over his cheek, still moving against him.
“Not because you think you owe me something.”
A stronger rush of pleasure caught me off guard, making my hips shake slightly in the middle of the movement.
“Fuck.”
It slipped out quietly. Armando’s eyes changed. I felt my face get hotter when I realized he had noticed, but I kept going anyway, trying to recover the steady rhythm I had started with even as the feeling continued building.
“You don’t,” I said, though the words came out breathier than I wanted. I rolled my hips again and had to bite the inside of my cheek. “You never do.”
I kissed his cheek and stayed there for a moment, breathing against his skin while I tried to pull myself together. His skin was hot beneath my mouth and faintly salty now, the shower he had taken less than an hour ago already becoming a lost cause.
When I straightened again, he was staring at me.
“Amor.”
The word was quiet and rough, almost swallowed before it left him. It made something low in my stomach tighten. I shook my head slightly, mostly at myself, and tried to slow down again.
“Don’t.”
His mouth moved at one corner, barely enough to call it anything.
I glared at him and kept grinding. He hadn’t touched me. He hadn’t done anything except lie there and say one word, and somehow that was enough to make every bit of control I had been holding onto start slipping through my fingers.
“You’re more than one game.”
The sentence came out unevenly now.
I moved again, harder without meaning to, and another tremor passed through my hips as the pressure kept building. Armando pulled in a breath through his nose, his eyes following my face even when mine started struggling to stay open.
“More than one goal.”
I flattened my hands against his chest. His skin was slick beneath them now.
“More than whether they leave you on the field or put you on the bench.”
My rhythm had become noticeably faster, the slow, careful pace from the beginning nearly gone. I was breathing hard enough that getting the words out between movements required concentration, but I refused to stop. He was looking at me now. Really looking at me.
“You’re still you when you come back through that door.”
His gaze stayed locked on mine. I tried to slow myself down. For a few seconds, I managed it.
Then I felt him hard and twitching beneath me again as I shifted, and whatever control I had recovered disappeared almost immediately. My hips rolled harder, a breath catching painfully in my chest as the feeling climbed higher.
“Armando, you’re perfect—”
The sentence broke into a moan.
My hips stuttered beneath me and I closed my eyes, forehead dropping toward his while I tried to find the rhythm again. My legs had started trembling from the effort of holding myself above him, and when I pushed myself into another movement, it came out shaky and uneven.
That was when his hands finally left the sheets. They went straight to my waist.
For half a second I tensed, ready to stop him again, but the pressure of his hands was different this time. He didn’t pull me harder or force me into something faster. He simply caught me when my rhythm slipped, his palms firm around my waist as he helped me continue the pace I had already chosen.
My eyes opened. Armando was watching me.
“Preciosa.”
His voice was low enough that I almost felt the word more than heard it. I swallowed, trying to breathe.
His thumbs pressed into my sides as my hips shook again, steadying me through it, and this time I let him.
All night he had wanted to take control. I had felt it in every impatient tug, every flex of his hands, every frustrated breath when I refused to give him what he had come back to the room expecting. Now that I was the one falling apart, he didn’t take anything from me.
He just held on.
I looked down at him, both of us flushed and sweating now, his hair damp all over again and my own sticking against the back of my neck. The dark patch between us had spread enough that neither of us could pretend not to notice it anymore, and every time my hips moved his eyes threatened to drop before coming back to my face. For the first time since he walked through the door, there was nowhere else he seemed to want to look. No ceiling. No space over my shoulder. No game replaying behind his eyes. Just me… us.

Vecino!Brian, Crush Secreto, Proximidad Forzada, Tensión Sexual, Brian Coqueto
Me despierto.
Brian no sabe quién soy.
¿Me provocaría? ¿Se uniría? Dios. Tengo que parar. O acostarme con alguien. Algo.
Me hace parecer ocupada. Concentrada.
He notado a mi vecina muchas veces antes de hoy.
No.
—Lienzo.
—¿Lienzo?
—Lienzo crudo.
Algo parecido al alivio cruza su cara. —Ah.
Entrecierro los ojos. —¿Qué pensabas que estaba diciendo?
—No tenía idea.
—No.
—No sé. Nunca hemos hablado.
Me giro hacia él.
—¿Brian?
Entonces entiendo.
No.
—¿Puedes escucharme?
No aparta los ojos de mí.
—A veces.
Gracias a Dios.
Brian pasa junto a mí primero.

Neighbor!Brian, Secret Crush, Forced Proximity, Sexual Tension, Flirty!Brian
Brian is your ridiculously attractive next-door neighbor, which wouldn’t be a problem if you could stop having increasingly inappropriate dreams about him. You’ve barely spoken despite constantly crossing paths in the hallway, and you’ve gotten pretty good at avoiding him whenever you do. But after another particularly vivid dream and an unexpected run-in downstairs, you finally end up alone
_____
*Your Perspective*
I fall back onto the mattress beneath me, my knees hanging over the edge of the bed, spread apart with Brian standing between them. He starts to unbuckle his belt without taking his eyes off mine, and I can’t help letting my gaze fall to his hands. Strong fingers pull the belt loose before moving to the button of his jeans, taking their time as though he knows I’m watching. The zipper lowers slowly while his eyes travel over my body, a subtle bite catching his bottom lip when his gaze reaches my hips, then my thighs.
He steps closer, pushing my legs farther apart with his own as his hands find my waist and move me exactly where he wants me. His touch drifts lower, tracing the insides of my thighs before reaching my underwear and sliding them aside. The slightest brush of his fingers against my sensitive skin makes me squirm beneath him. His knuckle moves slowly over me.
“Brian…”
His name sounds louder than it feels leaving my mouth. His eyes lift to mine, and a smirk begins to form on his lips.
I wake up.
Covered in a thin layer of sweat, I pull my hand from between my thighs and sit up, supporting my weight on my arms behind me while I try to catch my breath. My phone alarm has been going off for nearly a minute before I finally register it. This is not the first time I’ve had a wet dream about Brian.
It’s only happened a few times, but lately it feels like nothing is going to satisfy whatever ridiculous infatuation I’ve developed. It would be simple enough to actually talk to him, to ask him to spend time alone or walk up to him and pull him closer by his belt or the collar of his shirt. I could find out whether kissing him actually feels anything like it does in my dreams.
Except there is one relatively important problem. Brian doesn’t know who I am.
Well, technically, he knows I exist. He’s seen me a handful of times in the hallway, the elevator, the lobby, here and there, but that’s about it. Brian is primarily and solely my apartment neighbor, which makes repeatedly dreaming about him touching me considerably more embarrassing.
The first time I really noticed him, he had guests over. There must have been twenty men coming in and out of his apartment, apparently celebrating their first week back at soccer training. Brian was standing in the hallway on the phone, talking about his schedule or practice or something else I couldn’t remember five minutes later because I had stopped listening almost immediately. I was too busy looking at him.
His back was turned toward me at first. One hand held his phone while the other ran absently through his hair, stretching the fabric of a navy pullover across his shoulders. The crest of his soccer team sat over his chest, red and white stripes surrounded by a blue circle with a golden shield at the top. I knew the team. Everyone did. I knew I had a relatively well-known neighbor. I just hadn’t seen him this close before, and even from a few feet away, I could smell his cologne.
I tried to focus on unlocking my apartment, fumbling with my keys until I finally glanced up and realized Brian was looking directly at me. He was still talking on the phone, but his blue eyes stayed on mine between phrases. A beard was beginning to grow around his jaw, his brows sharp above his eyes, and his tongue passed briefly over his lips while he listened to whoever was speaking on the other end.
I took a small breath and immediately looked away. Could he tell I had been staring? Something about holding his gaze felt strangely intimate when we had never even spoken. I finally got my door unlocked and slipped inside so quickly it was almost embarrassing, shutting it behind me and pressing my back against it.
That had been the beginning of my extremely successful strategy of avoiding my attractive neighbor at all costs. Apparently my subconscious had other plans.
Sitting on the edge of my bed now, my cheeks are still warm from the dream. They’re almost always some variation of the same thing. Brian close to me. Brian over me. Brian barely speaking while his hands wander over my hips and thighs until I’m the one making all the noise. I always wake up when things start getting hotter, frustrated and flushed, with the humiliating reminder that the actual Brian is sleeping only a few feet away, probably…
That part makes everything worse. Would he be the type to watch? Would he tease me? Would he join me? God. I need to stop. Or get laid. Something.
I get ready for the day instead, choosing a soft skirt that stops at mid-thigh, a simple shirt tucked loosely into it, flats and barely any makeup. My only errand is the art supply shop beside the apartment complex, but every time I step outside my apartment lately, I feel the same stupid rush at the possibility of seeing him. If we ran into each other, would he keep walking? Would he finally say something? Would I?
I lock my door and head toward the elevator, distracting myself with a mental list of everything I need. Cadmium red, linseed oil, raw canvas. The elevator is empty. Cadmium red, linseed oil, raw canvas.
The doors open onto the lobby, sunlight stretching across the polished floor, and then I see him.
Brian.
He’s leaning against the front desk, scrolling through his phone while the manager searches for something on her computer. He looks patient, distracted, completely unaware of the effect his existence has apparently decided to have on my life.
I walk toward the front doors, repeating my supply list under my breath. “Cadmium red, linseed oil, raw canvas…” Maybe slightly louder than necessary. It makes me look busy. Focused. Like a woman with errands and responsibilities who absolutely did not wake up with her hand between her thighs because of the man standing ten feet away.
I’m about to pass him when Brian looks up from his phone. Our eyes meet, and I immediately look away, but not quickly enough to miss the slight curl at the corner of his mouth.
He’s smirking.
Worse, when I continue toward the doors, his head turns enough to follow me. I make it outside before letting myself breathe normally again.
What was that about?
*Brian’s Perspective*
Something red… oil… raw?
What the hell?
I watch her disappear through the front doors, trying to piece together what I just heard. She walked through the lobby mumbling the words like she needed to remember them, but without any context, they sound completely bizarre. Red something. Oil. Raw? I can’t even begin to guess what kind of errand requires all three.
Then again, she is my neighbor. An interesting one, for very specific reasons.
“Sir, for your ticket, you’d need to wait two days before someone can come out to fix the overhead light.”
The woman behind the desk starts explaining something else, but I’ve already stopped listening, my attention drifting back toward the doors.
“Thanks.”
I walk away from the desk and toward the open tables in the lobby. I’ve noticed my neighbor plenty of times before today. Usually she’s carrying what looks like a thousand bags and art supplies at once. There was one time I was walking toward my apartment when she dropped her keys and crouched to grab them, completely unaware that I was behind her. There were streaks of dried paint near the bottom of her skirt, almost like she’d used the fabric to wipe off her brushes.
She always looks a little messy, a little distracted. Sweet, though. Pretty. And nervous around me.
Once, I gave her a small nod as I passed her in the hallway. She blinked at me a few times before suddenly disappearing into her apartment. I remember wondering if I had done something to make her uncomfortable. We’ve never actually had a conversation.
Not that I haven’t heard her before.
Our bedrooms share a wall, and the walls in this building aren’t exactly thick. Usually I can ignore whatever comes through them. Music, her television, things being moved around. Other sounds are harder to ignore, especially when I hear my name.
I glance toward the front doors again. The art store is next door. She won’t be gone long, and I’m not exactly in a rush. Maybe I can wait, catch her in the elevator and finally introduce myself properly.
A formal introduction.
At least, that’s what I tell myself.
*Your Perspective*
“Your total is $34.11, please.”
I dig the extra cash out of my wallet and hand it to the cashier. She gives me my receipt and items, and I thank her before walking outside. The apartment building is only a few steps away, but I check my bag twice on the walk back anyway. Cadmium red, linseed oil, raw canvas. Everything is there. Good. Now I can go upstairs, lock myself inside my apartment and spend the rest of the afternoon pretending the embarrassing little interaction in the lobby never happened.
Except when I step through the front doors, Brian is still there.
He isn’t at the desk anymore. He’s sitting at one of the tables across the lobby, phone in one hand, looking far too comfortable for someone who was apparently dealing with a maintenance issue twenty minutes ago. His eyes lift almost immediately, and I look away.
Cadmium red, linseed oil, raw canvas.
I make it to the elevator and press the button, suddenly very interested in the numbers changing above the doors. A few seconds later, I hear movement behind me, then footsteps getting closer.
No.
The doors open, and I step inside before turning around just in time to see Brian approaching.
Of course.
He slips into the elevator before the doors close, and suddenly the space feels considerably smaller than it did on the way down. I tighten my grip around the bag in my hands while he reaches past me and presses his floor. The same floor as mine. Obviously.
For a few seconds, neither of us speaks. The elevator hums beneath us while the numbers slowly climb, and I keep my attention fixed straight ahead.
“So…”
His voice startles me more than it should. I look over and find Brian already watching me.
“Did you find the red thing?”
I blink. “What?”
“The red thing. And the oil.” His brows pull together slightly. “And something raw?”
It takes me a second to realize what he means. “Canvas.”
“Canvas?”
“Raw canvas.”
Something like relief crosses his face. “Oh.”
I narrow my eyes. “What did you think I was talking about?”
“I had no idea.”
The way he says it makes my face warm. “It’s paint. Cadmium red. Linseed oil. Raw canvas.”
“Right.” He nods slowly, looking like the last twenty minutes suddenly make much more sense. “That sounds better.”
“Better than what?”
His mouth twitches, but he doesn’t answer.
I turn toward the doors again. “You’re making fun of me.”
“I’m not.”
“You are.”
“I’m trying to talk to my neighbor.”
That shuts me up. When I look back at him, something about his expression has changed. The amusement is still there, but quieter now, his gaze lingering long enough to make me painfully aware that this is the longest conversation we’ve ever had.
“I thought you didn’t know who I was,” I admit.
Brian’s eyebrows lift. “Why wouldn’t I know who you are?”
“I don’t know. We’ve never talked.”
“That doesn’t mean I haven’t noticed you.”
My stomach drops, and the elevator suddenly feels warmer. Brian leans against the wall beside me, close enough that I catch the same cologne I remember from the first time I saw him in the hallway. I stare at the glowing numbers above the doors instead.
Two floors. I can survive two floors.
Then, quieter, he says, “Actually, you make it kind of hard not to notice you.”
I turn toward him. “What does that mean?”
For the first time since he stepped into the elevator, Brian doesn’t answer immediately. His eyes move slowly over my face, lingering there before dropping to my mouth. They continue lower, over the neckline of my shirt, down my waist and finally to the skirt brushing the middle of my thighs. My fingers tighten around the handles of the shopping bag, and Brian notices that too.
He steps closer, not enough to completely close the space between us, but enough that I have to tilt my face upward to keep looking at him. His cologne is stronger here, his body close enough that I can feel his warmth without him actually touching me.
Then his hand lowers. His knuckles brush the hem of my skirt. My breath catches.Brian’s eyes flick immediately back to mine.
Instead of pulling his hand away, he lets his fingertips settle against the fabric, absently playing with the edge. He rubs it between two fingers before letting the backs of his knuckles graze the bare skin beneath it. The touch is so slight I could step away without effort, but I don’t.
His gaze lowers again, following his own hand. One fingertip catches beneath the hem and lifts it barely an inch before letting it fall back against my thigh. The bag crinkles between my fingers. Brian looks at my hands, then slowly back at my face.
“Brian?”
His fingers trace the hem once more.
“You know our bedrooms share a wall, right?”
Everything inside me stops. For a second, I don’t understand why he said it. Then I do. No. The dreams.
Every morning I’ve woken up flushed and breathless. Every time his name has slipped out before I could stop it. Every night I’ve reassured myself that there was a wall between us.
A wall. My eyes widen. Brian watches the realization happen, his hand finally stilling against my thigh.
“You can hear me?”
His eyes stay on mine.
“Sometimes.”
My stomach drops so hard it feels like I’ve missed a step.
“How much?”
There’s a pause. Brian’s gaze drops to my mouth before returning to my eyes.
“Just... enough.”
Heat rushes through my entire face. I look toward the elevator doors, suddenly unable to hold his gaze.
“Brian!"
“What?”
“You could’ve said something.”
“What was I supposed to do?” His voice has gone quieter. “Knock on the wall?”
“Oh my God.”
I turn fully toward the doors, but Brian shifts closer behind me. He still isn’t touching me, not really, but I can feel his warmth at my back and hear how much lower his voice has become when he speaks again.
“And for someone who can barely look at me in the hallway…”
I stop breathing.
“You say my name pretty easily when you think I can’t hear you.”
The elevator chimes.
Thank God.
The doors slide open onto our floor, but neither of us moves immediately. I stare into the hallway, clutching the shopping bag so tightly that the paper has folded beneath my fingers while my heart tries to escape through my ribs.
Brian steps around me first.
I think that’s it.
Then he turns a few feet down the hallway, walking backward as his eyes find mine again.
“Next time, leave your door open.”
My mouth falls open.
That small smile returns to his face.
“Might save me from having to listen through the wall.”
Then he turns and walks toward his apartment, leaving me standing inside the elevator with my art supplies crushed against my chest.
________
Okay this one was fun. Originally it was going to be more sexy butttt this felt betterrrrr eeek! I love silly Brian.

No respondió.
-Armando.
-Me extrañaste?
-¿Tres semanas y todavía me vas a hacer esperar?
Cerraste los ojos durante medio segundo.
-Cállate.
Su mirada volvió a bajar hacia tu boca.
-Hazme.
No necesitaba moverse.
No respondiste.
No estaba descubriendo nada.
Estaba recordando.
-No me digas bebé.
Sabías exactamente a dónde te llevaba.
No continuó.
Armando no había hecho nada malo.
-Te quiero a ti.
-¿A quién?
La pregunta te cortó la respiración. Sabías perfectamente qué quería escucharte decir.
-A ti.
-Entonces no me cuentes.

This is written in English…Spanish/Español here
Childhood Friends, Friends with Benefits, Blurred Boundaries, Mutual Attraction, Jealousy, Possessiveness, Feelings Left Unsaid..
You and Armando had been friends long before sleeping together complicated things. What started as one night neither of you planned became an unspoken arrangement: no commitment, no expectations, and no questions about what happens when you’re apart… what happens between you is still completely casual.
_____
Sleeping with Armando had changed things. Not enough to ruin the friendship, really, but enough that you noticed things you hadn’t before.
You’d known him long before any of this, long before the first night you’d both stopped pretending there wasn’t something there. He’d been easy to be around then, familiar and safe in the uncomplicated way a friend was supposed to be. You could sit beside him without thinking about the space between your bodies, watch him come home from training flushed and exhausted without letting your eyes linger, let him put an arm around you or lean against him, even fall asleep beside him without thinking twice about it.
Now you knew too much.
You knew there was another version of Armando beneath the one everyone else got to see, one whose eyes went dark and stayed on you until your heartbeat climbed into your throat. You knew how quickly his voice could lose its warmth, dropping low enough that a few words in Spanish could make your stomach tighten before he’d even moved toward you. You knew what his hands felt like when they stopped touching you like a friend, and somehow knowing that had made the normal version of him dangerous too.
Armando had gotten back only a few hours ago. You hadn’t seen him in weeks, but sitting in his apartment again should’ve felt normal. His bag was still abandoned by the door, his training gear somewhere inside it, and the television played quietly in the background. You were curled into your usual corner of his couch while he sat at the opposite end. There was nothing unusual about any of it except neither of you had touched the food sitting on the table.
You could feel him looking at you, but you kept your eyes on the television for another few seconds, trying to ignore the weight of his stare until your pulse started climbing anyway. Finally, you looked over.
“What?”
He didn’t answer.
“Armando.”
His gaze dropped briefly to your mouth before returning to your eyes.
“Ven.”
There he was. That version of him, the one you never would’ve known existed if you’d just stayed friends.
You got up and crossed the space between you, stopping close enough that his knees nearly touched your legs. Armando looked up at you but did absolutely nothing. He simply made you stand there while his eyes moved slowly over your face, making you feel every one of the three weeks you’d spent apart.
“¿Qué?” you finally whispered.
His hand settled against your hip, and your breath caught before you could hide it. Of course he noticed. His thumb moved once against your side.
“¿Me extrañaste?”
It was something a friend could ask, but he wasn’t looking at you like a friend. Armando’s gaze stayed on yours as his fingers pressed a little deeper into your hip.
“¿Tres semanas y todavía me vas a hacer esperar?”
Your eyes closed for half a second.
“Cállate.”
His gaze dropped to your mouth.
“Hazme.”
Something shifted in Armando’s expression. His eyes lifted slowly back to yours, darker now, but he stayed exactly where he was, settled into the couch with you standing between his legs. He didn’t need to move. That was what made it worse. His hand remained on your hip, his thumb pressing into your side while he looked up at you, waiting for you to be the one who gave in. You expected him to pull you closer, to kiss you, to do anything that would end the unbearable silence between you, but he didn’t.
“Armando.”
“¿Qué?”
You knew exactly what he was doing. He was making you close the last bit of distance yourself.
Your hand found his shoulder as you stepped farther between his knees, and Armando’s legs opened easily for you. His eyes followed every movement as you lowered yourself onto his lap, one knee settling on either side of his hips. Only then did his hands move, settling heavily on your waist as his fingers tightened around you. Suddenly you were aware of everything at once, his chest against yours, the warmth of his body beneath you, his face only inches away. Three weeks without him felt much longer from here.
“¿Así me extrañaste?” he murmured.
You didn’t answer. You caught the front of his shirt and kissed him instead, and whatever control Armando had been holding onto disappeared. His mouth met yours harder, one hand sliding around your waist to pull you flush against him while the other moved into your hair. His breathing changed when your fingers found the back of his neck, the restraint finally slipping from him now that you were exactly where he’d wanted you.
Your hips shifted against his lap, and Armando went still for half a second, his eyes opening against the kiss. There was that dark stare you knew too well now. You held his gaze and moved against him a second time, slower, feeling his jaw tighten as his hands traveled down your body and slipped beneath the hem of your shorts to settle against your ass. His palms squeezed firmly, pulling you tighter into his lap as your hips continued to move.
You could feel his body responding beneath you, unmistakable now through the thin layers separating you, and the sensation sent your pulse racing. Armando’s eyes stayed fixed on yours as if he wanted to watch you realize exactly what you were doing to him. This was what sleeping with Armando had ruined. You knew what that look meant now, what his silence meant, what the tightening of his hands meant, what it felt like when his body stopped responding to you like you were only the girl he’d known for years.
And you knew exactly what came next, because the first time you’d felt him like this, neither of you had planned for it to happen.
It had been dark then, with Armando pressed against you in his bed and years of friendship still sitting safely between you. Your ex had broken your heart, and Armando had done what he’d always done when something in your life fell apart. He showed up.
You’d fallen asleep together watching television in his bed and woken sometime later with his chest against your back and his arm wrapped around your waist. You remembered lying there in the darkness, perfectly still, because something about being held by him suddenly didn’t feel as innocent as it had every other time.
Armando was barely awake when his fingertips began moving lazily over your arm. His face shifted closer, his breath warm against your neck, and then you felt the soft press of his lips against your skin, once almost absentmindedly, followed by another kiss that lingered just long enough to make your breathing change. His arm tightened around your waist and pulled your hips back against him.
That was when you felt him.
Your entire body went still. For a few seconds neither of you moved, and you wondered whether Armando was awake enough to realize exactly how closely he was holding you. Then his hips shifted behind yours, slow enough that you could’ve convinced yourself it was accidental if he hadn’t done it again.
You should’ve moved, but instead, you pressed back against him.
It was barely a movement, but Armando felt it. His breathing changed against your neck, his hand tightening at your waist as you moved against each other again. There was something almost surreal about grinding against the boy you’d spent years treating like an extension of yourself and feeling the unmistakable proof that he wasn’t thinking about you like a friend anymore.
When Armando finally woke enough to understand what was happening, you both stopped. His heartbeat was hard against your back, his mouth remained close to your neck, and his hand was still holding your waist. For one suspended moment, you were sure he was going to pull away and apologize.
He didn’t.
He pulled you closer, and that was the moment everything changed.
You’d seen his face thousands of times before that night, but never like that, never hovering over you in the dark with his eyes moving over you as though he was trying to reconcile the girl he’d known forever with the woman suddenly beneath him. There was hesitation at first, almost disbelief, and then something heavier when neither of you stopped.
You discovered that night that the shy boy you’d grown up with wasn’t shy with you anymore. Maybe that was what stayed with you afterward. Not simply that you’d crossed the line, but that you’d been allowed to see a version of Armando you hadn’t known existed, the lowered voice, the intensity in his eyes, the confidence in hands you’d only ever known through friendly hugs and thoughtless touches. Once you’d felt his hips moving against yours in the dark and heard the change in his breathing when you pushed back into him, there was no going back to pretending his body was just another familiar thing about your best friend.
Now, weeks later, you were doing it again.
The memory dissolved beneath the pressure of Armando’s hands squeezing your ass. You were still on his couch, still straddling his lap and moving against him, his mouth against yours and his body hard beneath you, the exact sensation that had dragged the memory out of you in the first place. Only now there was nothing accidental about it. You both knew exactly what you were doing.
His hands tightened around you as your hips moved against him again, pulling you closer instead of stopping you. The kiss grew heavier and needier, weeks apart finally catching up with both of you at once. His breathing was no longer as controlled as it had been when he was sitting across the couch watching you. Each breath came warmer and heavier against your mouth, occasionally breaking into a quiet murmur when you moved against him just right.
You felt it everywhere, the tension in his body beneath yours, the way his fingers dug into your skin whenever you pressed yourself closer, the heat gathering between your thighs until the slow friction had you wet enough to make every movement feel more intense. A moan slipped out against his mouth before you could swallow it, and Armando’s grip tightened immediately.
“Mm.”
The sound was low against your lips, more something you felt than heard. It made you move again, and this time his breath caught.
There was something intoxicating about watching the composure he’d been wearing all night begin to fracture. His grip had gone from controlled to hungry, his fingers flexing against your body like he couldn’t decide whether he wanted to slow you down or pull you even closer.
Armando’s hand eventually left your ass and traveled slowly up your waist, slipping beneath your shirt. His palm was hot against your bare skin as it moved higher, and you shivered when his fingertips dragged along your side. He felt it, of course he did. His mouth moved from yours to your jaw, his breath warm against your skin as he murmured something too low for you to catch.
You lifted your arms when his fingers caught the hem of your shirt. He pulled it over your head and tossed it aside without looking away from you, then simply stared. His eyes moved over you slowly enough to make your skin burn. There was something different about being looked at by someone who already knew what was underneath your clothes. He wasn’t discovering anything. He was remembering.
You shifted against him again, and a quiet sound escaped you when the movement pressed you harder against his lap. Armando’s jaw tightened.
“Fuck.”
His hand returned to your bare waist and traveled upward over your side until his fingers settled around your neck. The other stayed firmly beneath your arm, holding you against him while his thumb rested beneath your jaw. His chest rose against yours with every heavier breath, and when you moved your hips again, his grip instinctively tightened.
“Armando, please.”
His eyes stayed on yours.
“¿Qué, bebé?”
“Don’t call me baby.”
Something flickered in his expression. His fingers tightened slightly around your neck as he pulled you forward until your forehead rested against his. His breath washed over your lips, hot and uneven now, and for a second neither of you moved before he kissed you again, hard enough to pull a moan from you.
Your fingers disappeared into his hair, his answering breath rough against your lips. His arms closed around you, grip tightening beneath your body, and before you had time to register the change, Armando stood with you still wrapped around him. Your legs tightened instinctively around his waist, his hands supporting you as he carried you away from the couch.
You knew exactly where he was taking you.
His bedroom had once been one of the most ordinary places in your life. You’d spent hours there doing absolutely nothing, stretched across his bed while he played on his phone, watching television together or talking until one of you fell asleep. You knew the smell of his sheets, where he threw his clothes, which side of the bed he automatically chose.
Now you knew entirely different things about that room.
Armando carried you through the doorway with your mouth still against his, his breathing heavy between kisses, and that familiar bed came into view behind him. It was the same bed where friendship had stopped being enough the first time, and somehow, despite everything neither of you said afterward, you kept finding your way back to it.
Armando lowered you onto the bed, but you barely had time to settle before he was over you again. His mouth found yours while your hands reached for his shirt, dragging it upward until he finally pulled away long enough to take it off himself. You watched him toss it aside, your eyes lingering shamelessly on his chest before traveling back up to his face, and of course, he caught you looking.
His breathing was still heavy from the couch, his chest rising and falling as he climbed over you. The mattress dipped beneath his weight, and then his mouth was on you again, leaving a slow trail of kisses down your body. Your fingers slipped into his hair as his lips moved lower, occasionally lingering long enough to pull another quiet sound from you, and Armando seemed to notice every one.
By the time he sat back on his knees, your breathing had become uneven too. He looked down at you for a moment, taking in the sight of you spread across the same bed you’d once fallen asleep beside him in without a second thought. There was nothing innocent about the way he looked at you now.
His finger hooked beneath the edge of your panties and pulled them aside.
“¿Qué quieres, amor?”
“Que no me llames así.”
His eyes lifted to yours, completely unbothered.
“¿Qué quieres, mi vida?”
“Armando…”
His hand moved between your thighs, his palm pressing against you before two fingers slid inside. Your breath caught sharply, your hips reacting before you could stop them.
“Armando…”
“Mm.”
His eyes stayed fixed on your face, watching the reaction he’d pulled from you.
“Cómo te extrañaba.”
The words hit differently than they should have.
He didn’t continue. His fingers withdrew almost as quickly as they’d entered, leaving you frustrated and aching as Armando reached for his pants instead. He pushed them down with his underwear, and your eyes closed for a second as every other time you’d been here with him came rushing back at once.
The first time had felt almost unreal. Every time afterward had only made him more familiar, and that familiarity was dangerous.
You hated knowing there had been other women between those nights. Armando hadn’t done anything wrong. You weren’t together or exclusive, and neither of you had ever pretended otherwise. You had no claim over what he did when soccer took him somewhere else, just as he had no claim over you, but jealousy didn’t particularly care about technicalities.
Other women might know Armando like this now, but you had known him before any of it. You knew the boy who used to get shy around girls, when kissing someone was still important enough that he’d tell you about it afterward. You remembered his first crushes, the awkward years, the dreams he’d talked about before soccer became something bigger than either of you had imagined. You knew what embarrassed him and what made him laugh until he couldn’t breathe. You knew the version of Armando who existed before confidence came so easily to him, and you had watched him become the man kneeling between your thighs.
Maybe that was why seeing him like this never became entirely casual, no matter how many times you told yourself it was. There was something almost obscene about knowing both versions of him so intimately, the friend who had spent half his life beside you and the man whose dark eyes were moving over your body now.
Armando’s gaze returned to yours.
“Siempre terminamos así.”
Your stomach tightened because there wasn’t anything to argue with. You always did.
He leaned forward, close enough that his breath warmed your skin.
“¿Lo quieres?”
“Yes.”
“Dímelo.”
Your eyes stayed on his.
“I want you.”
“¿A quién?”
The question made your breath catch. You knew exactly what he wanted to hear.
“You.”
Armando’s jaw tightened.
“Así me gusta.”
He positioned himself against you, dragging himself slowly against your clit instead of giving you what you wanted immediately. The contact sent a shiver through you, your hips lifting instinctively toward him as a moan slipped from your mouth. Armando watched every second of it.
“Así es, bebé.”
His voice was rougher now.
“Mírate.”
You opened your eyes and found him staring down at you. His chest rose and fell slowly, but the control he’d had on the couch was almost gone now. You could see it in the tension across his shoulders, in the way his hand gripped your thigh, in the hunger sitting heavy behind his eyes.
For a second, though, he didn’t move. There you were, naked beneath someone you’d known before either of you really understood what wanting another person felt like. His eyes traveled over your body before returning to your face, and underneath the hunger was that same flicker of hesitation you’d felt yourself.
Every time you did this, it became easier to end up in his bed and harder to remember where the line between friendship and whatever this was had originally been. No strings, no promises, no questions afterward. It worked because neither of you looked too closely at it.
Armando swallowed, his hand tightening beneath your thigh.
“Dime que pare.”
Your heartbeat hammered. You could have, but instead, you reached for him and pulled him closer.
That was all the answer he needed.
Whatever hesitation had crossed Armando’s face disappeared. He pushed into you fast, and the sudden fullness pulled a broken moan from your throat. Your thighs instinctively spread farther around him, but Armando caught them from underneath, gripping you firmly and pulling you closer as he sank deeper.
“Armando…”
His name barely made it out before your voice failed you. His head dipped, his breathing heavier now, and for a moment he stayed there with his body pressed close to yours. You could feel the control he’d carried all night finally slipping in the way his fingers tightened around your thighs.
When he pulled out, you sucked in a breath. Armando’s eyes dropped between your bodies, and a string of spit fell from his lips onto your pussy.
“Amor.”
His gaze lifted back to your face.
“Qué bonita te ves así.”
The word landed somewhere it wasn’t supposed to. You’d spent so much time telling him not to call you that, treating every pet name like something too intimate for whatever arrangement the two of you had made, but looking at him now, you had the sudden, dangerous thought that maybe he should be calling you that. Maybe that was exactly what made it feel so good coming from him.
You pushed the thought away almost as quickly as it came.
Armando’s hand tightened beneath your thigh as he leaned over you again, his chest hovering close enough that you could feel the heat coming off his skin.
“¿Ves cómo siempre acabamos?”
His voice was quieter now, almost against your mouth. You swallowed, still trying to catch your breath, and his gaze dropped between you again.
There was something especially filthy about hearing it from him when you were like this because he wasn’t really asking. He knew. He’d known from the moment he’d looked across the couch and told you to come to him.
Armando buried himself into you again, slower this time, his eyes fixed on your face. Your mouth fell open as he filled you, and something in his expression shifted when he caught the reaction. He liked slowing down just enough to watch you lose your composure. His gaze dropped between your bodies before one hand settled against your lower abdomen, pressing down as he moved.
“Tus otros amigos no te tienen así.”
Your eyes snapped back to his. There it was, that little possessive streak neither of you had any right to.
“You don’t know what I do when you’re away.”
Armando let out a low chuckle, almost conceding the point. You weren’t his, and he knew better than anyone that the arrangement worked both ways. Still, his hands caught your legs and brought them higher, resting them against his shoulders as he leaned forward. His mouth brushed along your calf and then the inside of your ankle, strangely soft compared to everything else about the way he was handling you.
“Entonces no me cuentes.”
His eyes returned to yours.
Fuck. That was worse.
His hands returned to your waist, gripping you firmly as his pace quickened, pulling your hips into him with every thrust. The effort was beginning to show on him now. Sweat gathered across his chest and along his hairline, leaving the dark strands slightly damp while his breathing came heavier than before. His attention moved constantly between your face and the slick mess between your thighs, like he couldn’t decide which sight he wanted more.
He shifted one of your legs forward, changing the angle between you, and whatever he saw or felt made his composure finally crack.
“Dios.”
It came out low and breathless.
His hand moved between your bodies, and the added pressure made a moan escape you before you could stop it. There was something dizzying about the whole thing, being touched like this by the same person who knew what you looked like at ten years old, who knew your family and your heartbreaks and every embarrassing version of you that had existed between then and now. He was still your friend, and getting fucked and touched by your friend shouldn’t have made your mind wander toward forever, but sometimes it did.
Not because you secretly wanted some dramatic declaration from Armando. You liked what you had, and so did he. There was freedom in never having to explain yourselves, in being able to miss each other without demanding anything from it. Still, moments like this occasionally let the thought slip through.
What would it have been like if you’d chosen each other differently?
Armando’s damp fingers found your mouth before you could follow the thought any further. You opened for him instinctively, and he pushed them between your lips while his eyes stayed locked on yours. You sucked lightly, and his body reacted immediately, his eyes closing for half a second as a rough groan escaped him.
When he looked at you again, whatever thought you’d been having about forever disappeared. For now, this was what you had, and judging by the way Armando was looking at you, neither of you was ready to give it up.
Something about your reaction seemed to push Armando past whatever restraint he had left. His hands moved to your waist and, with an ease that made your stomach flip, he scooped you up and pulled you over him until you were straddling his lap. He shifted back onto his knees beneath you, taking your weight like it was nothing.
The new position should have given you some control, but it didn’t. Armando was too strong for that. His hands slid down to your ass and took over the pace completely, guiding your body up and down exactly how he wanted while keeping you tight against him. His mouth hovered beneath your chin, his breath hot against your skin, and every time you tried to move on your own, his grip tightened as though reminding you that he had you.
A broken whimper slipped from your throat, and Armando looked up immediately. You could barely hold his gaze. Your head tipped back, eyes rolling closed as another helpless sound escaped you, and his mouth found the underside of your jaw. There was no resistance left between your bodies now, nothing interrupting the rhythm he’d set. Every movement came easily, your body slick enough that he could guide you exactly where he wanted without slowing down.
“Así, linda.”
His fingers dug more firmly into your ass, pulling you down against him again.
“Así.”
The praise sounded different coming from him like this, low, breathless, almost possessive. You opened your eyes and found Armando still looking up at you, his hair damp against his forehead and his lips parted as he breathed. For once, he wasn’t wearing that impossible control he’d had on the couch. You could see exactly how affected he was, and somehow that made you feel even less in control.
His grip tightened around you as the rhythm between you grew more urgent, less controlled than it had been only moments before. Your head fell back, another broken sound escaping your throat as Armando’s breathing turned rough beneath you.
“Así… eso es.”
“Armando…”
“Sí, así.”
You could hear the change in him now. His voice was lower, strained between uneven breaths, the words coming less carefully as the tension between you continued to build.
“Armando…”
Your voice barely sounded like your own anymore. His forehead pressed against you, his breath hot against your skin.
“Sí, preciosa… así.”
Armando thrust into you again, one arm wrapping tightly around your waist while his other hand held you firmly by the ass, keeping you against him. Whatever careful control had survived the night was disappearing now, his breathing breaking against your skin as his grip tightened around you.
Everything else started to disappear with it, the room, the familiar bed, every thought about what the two of you were supposed to be once this was over. There was only Armando, his uneven breathing, the strength of his arms around you and his voice.
“Armando—“
“Así, mami.”
