Happy Statehood birthday, Alaska. Today, in 1959, you were born into the collective energy of statehood- an identifiable point in time when all the energies residing within you were given a unified title. And on that day, as with every day, the stars and planets were interacting. The picture of the sky, on January 3rd 1959, tells us who the collective of Alaska is destined to be (and who we've always been).
Our sun is in Capricorn. The light we shine to others is one of persistence, structure, actionable future-facing survival. Titles like "sourdough" come to mind. The world views us as a group that buckles down and gets things done. We carry the earth energy of Capricorn- we're steady, consistent, and grounded. Capricorn also fuels us with a cardinal direction; we're forward thinking, rarely dwell on the past, and jump into new endeavors eagerly and readily.
Our moon, on the other hand, sits at 0 degrees of Scorpio- a deep water sign. Beneath the surface of what we shine onto the world with our Capricorn sun, we are a deeply emotional group of people. We feel things intensely and yearn for a deeper connection to ourselves, others, and the earth. Our emotions are intimately tied to other Alaskans- and we truly emotionally feel a part of community of this land as a whole.
Scorpio is also the home of our only stellium- and is the only constellation where 3 of our planets reside. Neptune and Jupiter also reside in Scorpio with our moon. Neptune in Scorpio speaks to a group that blurs the lines lines between emotion and obsession. We're a group that can fall too deeply into many things- illusions, ideas, philosophies, love, hate. We can fall too deeply into our emotions and can get lost in day dreams rooted in what our heart hopes for- losing sight of where our head knows we need to go. If used well, this ability to intimately connect with our own desires can fuel great transformation. If used poorly, we can fall into despair.
Jupiter is our last Scorpio placement, and Jupiter brings expansiveness and blessings. Jupiter expands our ability to connect with others resources. Alaska is a land of deeply interconnected beings. Jupiter gives us an abundance of land to use- an abundance of oil, gold, fish, and summer sunlight. Jupiter provides resources we do not own, yet can have and use, in Scorpio. Jupiter in Scorpio intimately connects us to everything and everyone else in this state- and if we treat those things well, they are destined to treat us well in return. If we take advantage, Jupiter can also rapidly expand the depletion of such resources.
Luckily, our Venus brings some balance here. She sits ib Capricorn with our sun. Venus shows us where we find pleasure, love, and wealth. And Venus shows us that we quite love structure- we appreciate an intentional usefulness of our resources and find deep gratitude in taking only what we need. It also shows us a group of people who find wealth in consistent work- and enjoy hard work with deep structure.
Saturn in Sagittarius helps bring structure to our use of resources as well. Saturn sextiles our Neptune and Moon- restricting us from getting *too* deeply emotional. Saturn in Sagittarius acts with deep, ancient knowledge. It shows a group of people who appreciate ancestoral wisdom and who use such wisdom to build structure in their daily lives. Saturn in Sagittarius also shows us that foreigners coming to live here will never happen in abundance, and we, ourselves, can find ourselves restricted from travel at times as well. We are a place meant to invite foreigners, but because of simply who we are- there are many settlers who simply won't stay here. Only the most disciplined- those who believe in the idea of "Alaska" will stay.
Mercury shares home in Sagittarius with Saturn. Mercury is one of three planets we have in detriment (weakened). Mercury in Sagittarius shows a group of people who can be a bit arrogantly vocal- especially in the subjects of politics, religion, and personal professional studies. We tend to speak from a place of self-entitled authority and as a collective can often aggressively push opinions.
Our second planet in detriment is Mars. Mars is in Taurus. Mars, our fire, passion, and aggression- is dampened by the stubborn nature of earthy Taurus. This shows a group of people who have an immense amount of drive, but can find themselves prioritizing comfort over action. We can also be very hard-headed, and once established in a goal, not much can stop us from accomplishing it. In terms of anger? We hold it longer than others- it stays rooted with us longer than need be, and we use it to fuel actions that aren't always necessary. This benefits our goal-oriented sun, who wants to accomplish great things- but can create struggles with our Uranus.
Our Uranus is in Leo. Uranus brings chaos, innovation, and unexpected change. In Leo, a sign notorious for having fun, Uranus can get a bit out of hand. When pursuing enjoyment, we can get a bit... carried away. We underestimate risk and overestimate our abilities. We're prone to accidents and trauma- especially if we're reckless when calculating risk. Remember our stubborn Mars? If taking action in the heat of the moment, we must be wary of a severely increased chance of misfortune. On the other hand that same Uranus quality helps our Mercury. In conversation with others we are very likely to enjoy deep philosophical conversation that offer up unexpected and enjoyable entertainment.
Our last planet, Pluto, sits in Virgo. Pluto shows where we are meant to continuously transform and experience deep spiritual change. In Virgo, Pluto moves us to transform in a way of work, in day-to-day experiences, and in our overall way of life. Pluto, quite literally, will kill off ways of life that no longer work for us. Methods of subsistence, economically powerful job sectors, and even local shops and restaurants are destined to end and rebegin- continually changing the landscape of our lives over and over again.
Lastly we have our north and south node. These show us how energy drains away from us- and how energy comes to us. Our South Node in Aries shows us that we lose energy through our leaders and those who act to serve themselves. Our political leaders are inclined to over-expend our resources. And endeavors pursued in only a self-serving manner aren't destined to succeed. On the other hand, our North Node is in Libra. Energy comes to us through balance. Establishments meant for checks and balances aid us deeply; our judges, courts, social aid agencies are fair and just. Also, any endeavor made in a partnership offers much more likelihood of success. Co-ops and networking are great aids to success here.
Happy Statehood Birthday, sweet Alaska. The celestial bodies of your natal astrology chart speak deeply to who you were, who you are, and who you're meant to be. And I'm honored to be a part of your star-fed energy.
