Suggestion for a drabble? Leon taking the reader while they are at an event, like her friend's wedding, knowing full well she's apart of the wedding party and now has to stand up in front of everyone during the vows with the mess he left.
bringing leon to the wedding was a bad, bad idea.
you run your hands against the sides of your dress for the thousandth time, trying to make sure you look perfect. hold it in, you just need to hold it in, right? fuck, fuck! your breath catches in your throat when you hear the entrance waltz, your eyes dart around the extremely well decorated hall, settling on your friend in white. she looks perfect, ethereal. for a moment you almost forget about the man sitting in the second row next to you, a smirk on the blonde's lips as he too watches your friend.
shit, why did you do that?
she trusted you enough to ask you to be maid of honor, knowing you were her best friend, so responsible and demure... with a sticky mess between your thighs, caused by none other than your impatient boyfriend, as you try to stay still at the altar.
"fuck, stay still, are you dumb or something?" his voice was gravy and breathless, cut short as he tried to muffle his low grunts by sinking his face between the crook of your neck.
"leon, leon, stop... i can't! i'm not- we shouldn't-" your pleading was interrupted by two fingers forcing their way into your throat. and you accepted it, coating them in thick saliva, glossy eyes rolling to the back of your head as he bucked his hips violently against yours. fuck, his movements were erratic and desperate, to match with his energy and expression when he pulled you out of the wedding for a quick fuck in the staff bathroom.
leon just knew he needed to fill your pussy with his load when he saw you all dolled up. there's no waiting until we get home. how the fuck did you expected him to wait? his dark blue blazer thrown into some corner of the bathroom and your cute link maid of honor dress pushed up and crumpled up at your waist, as you held on for dear life onto the marble sink, pussy gushing deliciously and shaking legs doing their best to keep you up. his thrusts making you lose your fucking mind, hitting that sweet spot as you feel every vein and ridge and hear the pornographic squelching noises leaving where you are connected. too much for you to handle, his grunts against your ear, the unbreakable eye contact, the feeling of his warm chest squishing you between the sink, big hands keeping you in place and the thick smell of sex... too much, fuck! "wait, shit! kennedy, i'm gonna- oh, fuuughh... gonna cum, please!"
you wanted to slap him for that, what the fuck was he thinking? yeah, he gave you a toe curling orgasm and slapped you real good when you tried to complain but... fuck. you meet his eyes during the vows, almost willing to forgive him. "what a fucking asshole" you think, being met by a cynical smile and a roll of his eyes.
"oh, look at you, slutty fucking doll, eh?" leon took his spit covered fingers out of your mouth, trailing them down to your abused clit, taking good care of it with quick circles. "c'mon, baby, look at yourself! so so pretty, taking me so good, gimme another one"
you did, blurry eyes trying to focus on your fucked out face on the foggy mirror, shit, your makeup! you whined, trying to push him off but only making him go deeper into your dripping pretty cunt, warm fleshy insides gripping him oh so tight. "so needy, i knew you would love this, sweetheart, can't go long without my cock uh? shut the fuck up or do want your little friend to listen to you cumming again around my dick? she would be so disappointed..."
you couldn't form a coherent response, but you were sure that his hand gripping your hip would leave bruises and that you would never forget those blue eyes staring back at you in the mirror.
now they stare at you as you throw rice at the newlyweds, a hand slithering on your waist. "you looked really pretty up there, love" leon whispers on your ear, hot breath making you shiver. "you behaved very well for someone who is dripping cum like a fucking whore".
you could kill him, but when you finally turn to look him in the eye with a mortified expression, he puts on his most perfect poker face, happily waving at the bride and groom as they enter the limousine...

Summary: You are a researcher for D.S.O. who is responsible for studying Leon Kennedy as Las Plagas overtakes him, maybe even finding a cure. He starts to take a liking to you, too much of a liking to you.
Word Count: 2k
Pairing: yandere plagas!Leon Kennedy x fem!reader (afab)
Disclaimer: This story is a work of fiction. Actions depicted in this story are not condoned in real life. You are responsible for your own content consumption. If any of the following warnings trigger you, please read at your own risk. Minors do not interact, this story is 18+ only.
Warnings: Extreme violence and gore, biting, dubcon, forced breeding, gross las plagas-y things, death, mentions of un-aliving. DEAD DOVE: DO NOT EAT.
A/N: Heavily inspired by this artwork by @chanif-art on Tumblr along with Project Scorpion by @tagzpite. Literally could not get this idea out of my head until I wrote it down. Definitely going to be another series. We're also going to pretend D.S.O. was founded way sooner than 2011 k byeeeeee
āI fought a war and I learned how to win, but how do you fight when the enemyās within?ā
You step out of an elevator led by two armed D.S.O. operatives in tactical gear deep underground at HQ, your white lab coat flowing gently as you walk forward. Grasped in your right hand is a voice recorder. You and the operatives go through a series of heavy steel doors leading you into the bowels of the underground facility.
Is all this really necessary? you think to yourself as youāre led deeper into the abyss.
Finally, youāre brought to a single cell enclosed with clear polycarbonate panels with steel reinforcements. In this cell was a man sitting in a chair that was bolted into the floor, his hands chained behind his back and his legs chained to the legs of the chair. This man is Agent Leon S. Kennedy. You approach one of the panels closest to the steel door keeping him in.Ā
Switching the voice recorder on and bringing it to your mouth, you state your name before continuing, āThe year is 2004. The subject is field agent Leon Scott Kennedy, currently 27 years old and exhibiting the late stages of Las Plagas infestation, his body is covered in dark, vein like marks. Subject is currently slumped over in the chair. He appears to be catatonic.ā
Bringing the recorder away from your mouth, you motion to one of the operatives to guard the door. You input a passcode into a key panel next to the door. It lets out a hiss as it slowly swings open. As you step in, the door swings closed and locks.
You bring the recorder back to your mouth and continue, āAgent Kennedy?ā
You watch as Leon slowly lifts his head, his face completely covered in the dark veins, his once blue eyes now have a slight red tinge to them, it makes your stomach twist in sorrow, he used to be such a handsome man.
āSubject appears to still have some cognitive ability left as he immediately recognized his name. Weāre still trying to understand how he hasnāt broken down now that the alpha Plagas host, Osmund Saddler, has been destroyed--ā
āIām right here, you know,ā Leon suddenly spoke, making you jump.
āAg-Agent Kennedy!ā you reply, eyes wide in shock that heās able to speak.Ā
āPlease, just call me Leon, sweetheart.ā
His dark gaze seemed to pierce straight into your very soul. You collect yourself, clearing your throat.
āHow are you feeling, Leon?ā
Leon looks down at himself, tugging gently at his restraints before looking back up at you, āall things considered, I actually feel pretty damn good.ā
āThatās⦠good, I guess,ā you reply, your nervousness clear in your voice.Ā
You hadnāt prepared for this, every researcher that attempted to interact with him got absolutely nothing out of him, hence why they sent you down. You argued with them, not seeing the point but now you began to realize that the difference was they were all men, you were a woman.Ā
āAwww⦠thereās no need to be so nervous, sweetheart, itās just me, Leon Kennedy. I promise I donāt bite,ā he says, a small smirk appearing on his lips, āhard.ā
āDo you know where you are and why youāre here, Leon?ā
He lets out a chuckle, āyeah, Iām in D.S.O.ās research facility because Iām turning into a monster.ā
āThatās putting it rather bluntly, but yes, thatās correct.ā
āAbout time they sent someone cute down here to visit me, the rest were much too dull. If I wasnāt chained up, Iād ask you out to dinner and a movie.ā
You feel yourself blushing, āthatās⦠very kind of you Leon, however that wonāt be happening anytime soon, Iām afraid.ā
āThatās a shame, because Iād love to take you to bed and make you scream my name,ā he growls, a sinister grin overtaking him.
Your heart is pounding out of your chest as your eyes widen at him. This wasnāt like Leon at all, the parasite was clearly twisting his thoughts. You panic, turning around to motion the operatives to open the door and let you out. As soon as youāre out of the cell, you briskly walk away from the cell as fast as you can, not once looking back. You could have swore you heard Leonās laugh echo after you.Ā
āI am not going back down there, are you insane?!ā
āYouāre the first person he has actually spoken to since he got back from Spain,ā the lead researcher, Bryan said, setting your voice recorder down onto his desk.Ā
āSo? Your point? Iām not doing it and thatās final!ā
āLook, this recording gives us valuable data on him, itās clear that the Plagas inside him is mutating into a more dominant strain. It must know itās the last one left,ā Bryan said, pleading with you.
āSo weāre just going to poke and prod him like heās some guinea pig? Leon wouldnāt have wanted that! Are you sure thereās no way we can cure him?ā
āIf we attempt to remove the parasite now, it will kill him--ā
āThen letās put him out of his misery, this isnāt right!ā
The silence between you was deafening. After a few minutes, Bryan finally spoke.
āJudging by this recording, the Plagas has one thing on its mind.ā
āWhich isā¦?ā
Bryan looked up at you, letting out a heavy sigh, āreproduction.ā
āAll the more reason I shouldnāt be going back down there!ā
āHeāll be restrained and youāll have at least two operatives with you at all times, youāll be safe,ā Bryan leans forward on his desk, folding his hands together, āthe data you collect from Agent Kennedy is invaluable in finding out how the parasite works, just⦠go down and talk to him. I know yesterday was unnerving but there is one thing he said that is true, heās just Leon Kennedy. Heās in there somewhere, even if the Plagas is influencing him.ā
You cross your arms, staring at the floor, letting out a frustrated sigh before looking back up at Bryan, āfine. But I want hazard pay.ā
āConsider it done, hereās your recorder back,ā Bryan says, sliding the recorder across the desk towards you.Ā
You grab the recorder of the desk, turning on your heel to walk out of Bryanās office.
āYou are to report down there in an hour, you hear me?ā Bryan calls after you just as you walk out the door.
You fight the urge to flip him off, thinking better of it. You walk down the hall into your office, getting your lab coat back on and sitting at your desk. You press play on the recorder, listening back on your interaction with Leon several times. There was one part where you repeated it several times, sending chills down your spine.
āThatās a shame, because Iād love to take you to bed and make you scream my name.ā
How long had Leon been locked down here, chained to this chair? How many men in lab coats came and tried to talk to him? He knew he was a lost cause, why were they keeping him alive? How many times did he wish death would come and take him in his sleep?
But then you came, awakening something in him.
Your natural scent filled the cell completely, so many hours had gone by and he could still smell you and you smelled absolutely divine. He couldnāt stop thinking about you, the way your voice was so sweet yet filled with drive and intelligence. The way you blushed when he flirted with you. The way your heartbeat began to race at just the mere mention of taking you.
God you were so cute when you ran off, all flustered, he couldnāt help but laugh; he hadnāt felt alive like that in so long. His reminiscing was interrupted suddenly when he could hear footsteps coming down the hall. Lifting his head, he practically began to salivate when he saw you had returned.
You came back to me, baby, where you belongā¦
āThe subject appears to be conscious and alert, he watched us as soon as we were in his line of sight,ā you say as he watches you speak into the voice recorder.Ā
With a hiss, the door opens and you step inside. Leon breathed in deep, taking in the smell of you, you smelled even better than you had yesterday. He feels his cock twitch in his pants in excitement. He watches as the door behind you closes and locks, just like it had yesterday, trapping you in here with him.
Curse these fucking chainsā¦
āYouāre more lively today, Leon, care to tell me why?ā you ask, your voice flat and void of any emotion.
āHow about you tell me why you smell so nice,ā Leon replies, grinning at you, drool running from his mouth down his chin.
He watches you shift uncomfortably before you continue, āIām not answering that.ā
Leon scoffs, shaking his head, āthen Iām not going to talk to you, sweetheart.ā
You take a deep breath, āif Iām going to be honest, I donāt know why I smell so nice to you, Leon.ā
His red eyes scan up and down your form, imagining it without all those needless clothes. Imagining himself pinning you to the floor and fucking you stupid. A strange, clicking sound came out of him from the back of his throat as he pulled aggressively on the chains holding him to the chair. He watches as the two men with guns outside become alert. Leon lets out a low growl as he glares at them.
You turn to face the men, signaling to them to stand down. He watches them both relax before you return your attention to him.Ā
āThe transformation appears to be progressing faster than expected,ā you say into the recorder, āare you in any pain, Leon?ā
Leon slowly shakes his head, āno, just unbelievably horny, doll.ā
āWe have reason to believe the subject is displaying an increased libido due to the fact that the parasite inside him knows itās the last of its kind.ā
āStop talking about me like Iām not here, thatās awfully rude.ā
āFine,ā you say, lowering the recorder away from your mouth, āwhat do you want to talk about, Leon?ā
āYou should ask those nice boys out there to take these chains off me,ā Leon purrs, staring at you longingly.
āAbsolutely not, Leon,ā you reply, crossing your arms, āthose chains are there for my safety as well as your own, at least until we can get the Plagas out of your body.ā
āI think Iām too far gone for that, donāt you think, sweetheart?ā
You take a deep breath and exhale loudly, the sorrow clear in your eyes, āI am so sorry that this is what you have become, Leon.ā
āIām not,ā Leon says as that sinister grin overtakes him again; he starts to chuckle.
āLeon,ā you begin, stepping closer and kneeling down to be eye level with Leon, āI know the real you is in there, somewhere, you have to fight it.ā
Your scent was almost enough to drive him crazy, you were delectable. He licks his lips, that clicking sound coming out from this throat again. His eyes are locked on you and he sees you glance down briefly before looking back into his eyes. He knew what you were looking at, you were looking at the noticeable bulge in his cargo pants.
āYouāre so pretty, you know that?ā Leon says, his body visibly trembling.
You donāt respond, you simply stare at him with that same sad look in your eyes. How could you not want him as much as he wanted you. His lips curl into a snarl.
āLet me FUCK YOU!ā he growls, lunging forward, the bolts in the chair letting out a loud screech as theyāre bent slightly.
You stumble back, falling backwards onto the floor as Leon continues to struggle violently. The two men with guns come rushing in, one of them grabbing you off the floor while the other shoots a tranquilizer dart into Leonās thigh. Leon feels the effects almost instantly, his body becomes limp as he becomes sluggish, his mouth hanging agape as he watches you get led out of the room by the two men, the door shutting and locking behind them as youāre led away.
āMine,ā he whispers in his last moments of consciousness, āall mine.ā
Summary:Ā Just when you start to get comfortable in your new lease on life, your past comes rushing back to chase you down. Literally.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
You had slept like a goddamn rock for the last few nights
They were the first nights in three months where you were able to get a full nightās sleep without getting abruptly woken up to Leon touching you. You recall at first it was fun, he was an absolute monster in bed; unfortunately as time went by you realized he was quite literally a monster. Each night that he was home, his sexual advances became more and more twisted. Especially that one time he made you suck the end of his loaded handgun.
Youāll never forget the sick grin on his face as he watched your helpless expression.
You jolt yourself awake and shake your head, dispelling the awful memory with it. You were safe now, well away from him. You slowly sat up and stretched your arms out over your head and let out a loud yawn. You slip out of bed and put on a pair of slippers before walking out into the kitchen. Becky was standing at the island reading the newspaper and chewing on a piece of toast.
āMorninā!ā says Becky with a mouthful of toast.
You give her a nod in response as you make your way to the fridge. You grab the jug of orange juice and grab a cup from the cabinet to fill. You fill the cup before putting the jug back into the fridge.
āStill no sign of him, right?ā Becky asks.
āThankfully no, heās definitely back at his apartment by now. Havenāt heard a peep.ā
You can only imagine how violent his reaction to you being gone was. He absolutely hated it when things didnāt go exactly as he wanted. Thatās fine, he can have his hissy fit in D.C.. You took gradual sips from the orange juice before discarding the empty cup into the sink.
āGot work today?ā Becky inquires.
āYeah.ā
Becky was able to secure you a tech support job at a law firm for when you moved into Boston. You were extremely grateful for that. Thankfully you had saved up money prior to Leon forcing you to quit your job in D.C., but that money was starting to wear thin. The job was entertaining from what you gathered in the last couple days. Lawyers were extremely tech illiterate to the point where it was almost impossible not to laugh on the phone.Ā
You go back into your bedroom to get dressed into a polo shirt and a pair of jeans with sneakers. You put your hair up in a ponytail before going into the bathroom to put some light makeup on. Work was extremely close by, you could walk to it, which you decided to do since the weather was so nice. You get into your cubicle and start taking calls.
āThank you for calling tech support, how can I help you?ā
āHi, yes? My laptop wonāt turn on.ā
āDid you charge it last night?ā
āYou know what, no I didnāt. I bet the batteryās dead. Thanks!āāThank you for calling tech support, how can I help you?ā
āMy mouse doesnāt work.ā
āIs it plugged in?ā
āOf course itās plugged in! Iām not an idiot-- oh⦠wait⦠itās not plugged in. Sorry to bother you.ā
āThank you for calling tech support, how can I help you?ā
āFound you, sweetheart.ā
Your eyes widen as you hold your breath. This has to be some kind of sick joke. You regain your composure and hang up on the caller; it sounded like Leon but you werenāt 100% sure. You try to track the number they called from, but it came up as an unknown caller. Whoever it was, they were using a burner phone number. The phone rings again immediately and you answer it.
āWho are you and what do you want?!ā you scream into your headset.
āWhoa hey, what the hell!? Iām calling because my internetās not working!ā they say, the person clearly being a different caller.
āOh my god⦠Iām so sorry,ā you rub your eyes before continuing, āI just had a prank call. Did you try restarting the router?ā
āOh ok, no worries! No I havenāt, Iāll do that now, thank you miss!ā
You log out of the call queue to collect yourself. You rub your face into your hands. You hear footsteps walk over to your cube and you look up and find your boss standing there.
āEverything alright here? I thought I heard you yell,ā your boss asks.
āYeah sorry, there was a prank caller. I think they were using a burner phone to call in.ā
āAh ok, that doesnāt usually happen here but thereās a first for everything. Definitely take a breather before you log back in, ok?ā
You give your boss a nod before he walks away. Before logging back into the queue, you look into the call history. Your stomach drops when you see that the unknown caller called your phone directly, not into the tech support line.
It was just a prank caller, don't psych yourself out, you think to yourself as you close your eyes and take a deep breath.
There was absolutely no way Leon could have found out where you worked that quickly, it had to be a prank. You log back into the tech support queue and finish out your day thankfully with no other prank calls.
Even though your apartment was a 10 minute walk, you decide to order an Uber instead, the prank call still making you anxious. When the Uber driver arrives, you confirm your name for him and he takes you home, the drive takes less than 5 minutes. You thank the driver and quickly enter your apartment.Ā
š¤š¤š¤š¤š¤š¤
Leon was thankful that you hadnāt turned around and seen his familiar lifted Jeep Wrangler with tinted windows parked across the street from your apartment as he watched you hurry inside. He turned his attention to the laptop he had open on the passengerās seat. After a few keystrokes, several camera feeds popped up on the screen.Ā
At some point when you and Becky were both out in the last couple of days, Leon had broken into the apartment and installed several hidden cameras. He enlarged one of the cameras where both you and Becky could be seen standing in the kitchen and enabled the audio.
āHey! How was your day?ā Becky asks.
āEh, it was alright,ā you reply, āI got the creepiest prank call today.ā
A smirk began to cross Leonās lips.
āIt wasnāt him, was it?ā Becky inquires, the concern evident in her voice.
āNo way! There is no way he figured out where I went that fast.ā
Leon let out a laugh, āUnderestimating me is your first and last mistake, dear.ā
āIām going to take a quick shower. Want me to order pizza when I come back out?ā you ask.
āYeah sure!ā Becky replies.
Leon immediately switches the camera feed to one that is inside a vent above the shower. He hears you enter the bathroom and shut the door. As he hears the ruffling of clothes, he begins to undo the belt on his jeans, grasping his hardening cock in his left hand. He sees your arm reach into the shower to turn it on and let it warm up.Ā
If only you knew that you were putting on a personal show just for Leon to enjoy. Picturing your horrified expression only aroused him even more.
Your naked form then came into frame, his cock pulsing in excitement as he began to stroke it vigorously. His eyes were glued to the laptop screen as you lathered soap onto yourself. He began to let out quiet whimpers as he got closer and closer to his release, the whimpers getting progressively louder. Suddenly, with a shudder of his body, he let out a guttural moan and came all over his hand and his jeans. His moment of euphoria was short lived as the disgust of having cum all over himself overtook him. He slammed the laptop shut, grabbed a small towel from the back seat and wiped the cum from his hand and jeans as best as he could before throwing the towel back to the backseat.Ā
His ice cold eyes glare at your apartment door before he starts the engine in his Wrangler, driving off into the Boston night.Ā
š¤š¤š¤š¤š¤š¤
You and Becky decide to go out that weekend into Chinatown to get hot pot. Becky knew of a great restaurant called Shabu Zen, she claimed they had the best hot pot in town. You havenāt had hot pot before, so you were going to have to take her word for it.
You both enter the restaurant and the hostess seats you two in the corner. You sit on the side where your back was to the wall, you never wanted your back exposed, ever. Your waiter comes over and takes your order for drinks, Becky ordered a margarita, you simply just asked for water.
āWe got through the first week in Boston together!ā Becky exclaims, lifting her glass, āa toast to being Bostonians and no creepy ass ex-boyfriends!ā
āHell fucking yeah, my friend!ā you respond, raising your glass of water and clanking it against her margarita.
The waiter comes back over, and you both put in your order of broth and meats that youāll be having for hot pot. You two make small talk about work before the waiter comes back over a short time later with plates full of different veggies, noodles and meats. Another waiter behind him sets the broth on the burner in the middle of the table and turns the burner on.Ā
āFor real though, thank fuck you got out of there when you did, I know you havenāt told me everything that fucking prick did to you but⦠Iām just glad youāre not dead.ā Becky states as she starts piling food into the broth.
āI know⦠I still need to look up a therapist that I can go to so I can move on. I feel like I close my eyes and his face is the only thing I see.ā
Becky scoops out noodles, meat and veggies out from the broth and starts eating, āWho would have thought such a hot dude would turn out to be a fucking psychopath.ā
āItās always the ones you least expect, Becky. I should have seen the red flags,ā you say as you also scoop food out from the broth.Ā
Your eyes happen to wander around the restaurant to the other patrons as you slurp up noodles; it was mostly younger people with one older couple seated at the table next to yours. Your eyes settle on a dark corner of the restaurant where you see a man seated by himself. You stop mid bite, your eyes locked on the man. You recognize his short dirty blonde hair immediately. His cobalt eyes burned into your skin. He was even wearing that fitted black shirt that you used to love so much. There is no doubt in your mind, Leon is in the restaurant.
Becky notices your freaked out expression immediately, āHey, whatās wrong?ā
You blink a few times to make sure he wasnāt a figment of your imagination. Much to your dismay, he wasnāt. You watch a devilish smirk spread across his lips before he puckers his lips at you.
You suddenly dig your wallet out of your purse, throwing several twenties onto the table before getting up, āwe have to go. Now.ā
āWait, what? Whatās going on?ā
āNo time, we need to leave,ā you grab Becky by the arm and practically drag her out of the restaurant.Ā
You both bolt onto the sidewalk and you walk briskly down the street towards the depths of Chinatown, still pulling Becky along.
āAre you going to tell me why you just dragged me out of Shabu Zen?ā
You look back and see Leon step out of the restaurant; he looks around and quickly spots you and Becky, giving chase.
Becky, seeing your panicked expression, looks back and sees what has you spooked, āHoly fucking shit how did he fucking find you?!ā
āI donāt know but we need to lose him, got any ideas?ā
āYeah, let's get to the Orange line. Weāll lose him in the subway system.ā
Becky grabs your hand and leads the way running. You occasionally look back, each time your heart sinking as you see Leonās face in the crowd, running after you. Having a military background, it wouldnāt take him long to catch up.
Thankfully, you both get to the Chinatown stop for Bostonās T subway system and bolt down the stairs.
āListen to me carefully, itās going to get awfully confusing so I need you to follow me closely, ok?ā Becky says, looking back as she scans her Charlie card and goes through the gate.
āYeah, got it.ā
Becky throws her Charlie card to you. You scan it and get through the gate and catch up to Becky. You turn around just in time to watch Leon vault over the subway gate with the grace of a panther. Thankfully, the next train was just pulling in as you two got to the train platform, you both bolt inside one of the cars and try to cram yourselves into the most crowded car.
āOk, we need to get off at Downtown Crossing, then we pick up the Red line to Park Street and get on the Green line there. Then, we get off at Government Center which will then loop us back to the Orange line, ok?ā Becky explained quietly.
You nod before scanning your eyes through the car, but you canāt tell if Leonās on the train, youāre just going to have to assume that he is.
āNext stop, Downtown Crossing.ā the T PA system called out.
āOk, hereās our stop, as soon as those doors open, we make a b-line to the Red line to Alewife.ā
As if on queue, the doors open and you and Becky practically launch yourselves out of the car, you donāt bother to look back to see if Leon is following you. Becky has a vice grip on your hand as you both get to the train platform for the Red line. Again luck was on your side, the doors for the Alewife train just started to open and you and Becky dove inside one of the cars and, once again, made your way to the most crowded car.
You repeated this same maneuver again at the Park Street stop and again at Government Center. Just like Becky had said, that eventually led back to the Orange line, which you both took back towards Forest Hills, getting off at the Back Bay stop, which thankfully was close to your apartment. You both ascended the stairs to the street level and stopped to take a breather.
āHoly shit I canāt believe that worked, where do you think we lost him?ā you ask.
āI donāt know, once we were on the first train in Chinatown, I stopped looking for him.ā
āMe too.ā
When you both finally could catch your breaths, you proceeded to walk down the street back to your apartment.
Neither of you would be sleeping that night.
š¤š¤š¤š¤š¤š¤
He lost track of you and your friend after getting off at Park Street. He ascended the stairs to the street, kicking a trash can over in frustration. You were so close to being back in his grasp.
And you would have been if it werenāt for that bitch, Becky. He knew that she smuggled you up here away from him, convinced you to leave him. She filled your head with nasty lies about him, she must have, why else would you leave him? He let his anger boil inside him as he walked down the street. He couldnāt help but notice several women gawking at him as he strolled down the street. He winked at some of them, seeing them visibly swoon at him. Oh how he enjoyed toying with their hearts.
It was a small bit of enjoyment he had since the world started to repeatedly fuck him over. First it was his new life in Raccoon City, then Operation Javier, then the incident in Spain with Los Illuminados. It was when he returned from Spain that he met you at a bar in D.C., you had noticed him sitting alone at the bar and walked over and talked to him. It was the first ounce of normalcy he ever felt in his life since he graduated from the Police Academy. When you two started dating, that was when he decided he was never going to lose you, no matter the cost.Ā
Again, his thoughts returned to your friend Becky. She took your princess away from him.

--------------------
āWow⦠thatās⦠good?ā you told him, lying through your teeth, thinking about how you got yourself into this predicament.
Leon had ushered you down the winding path of the village outskirts, the two of you trying to maneuver around a pervasive awkward silence after your initial meeting.
When Leon wasnāt actively trying to intimidate you, he was reserved. Almost⦠shy?
To break the tension, you had asked if he invited all of his visitors home.
His reply?
āJust the pretty ones.ā
You laughed at that, rolling your eyes, and he rubbed the back of his neck with a chuckle before growing more serious.
āThis is the first time in a decade Iāve actually talked to someone. Most people⦠run away before they start asking questions.ā His eyes shifted over to you as he added, āAs they should. Youāre a special case, apparently.ā
You scoffed. āYou scare them away, though. On purpose. Not my fault I saw through it.ā
āWell, itās for their own good. And my peace of mind. You really managed to catch me off guard.āĀ
āItās a skill few possess,ā you replied with a teasing grin.
He clicked his tongue in response before leading you up to a house with large front double doors. āHome sweet home.ā
You released your hold on his arm, watching as he opened them and swept his hand forward, offering to let you walk in first.Ā
What a gentlemonster, you joked to yourself.
You nodded and made your way inside, sliding your backpack off your shoulders and setting it down against the wall before taking in the decently sized space. It was pretty nice, though bare of decorations and a bit worn. Must be great not having to pay rent.
āMi casa es su casa,ā he told you, closing the doors.
Shutting out the day, you came to realize just how dark the place was. Even the windows did little to aid your sight, as the sun was beginning to set.Ā
āUh, Leon?ā
āYeah?ā
Those glowing red eyes were trained on you, even more pronounced in the shaded room. āIs there a light in this place? Or do you just⦠live like this?ā
āShit,ā he hissed, breezing past you to a cabinet and pulling out an array of white candles and a box of matches, setting them on the dining table in front of you. āYeah, I can kinda⦠see in the dark.ā
He opened the small box and tried to carefully pluck a match from inside, struggling to gain purchase with his claws on the tiny wooden handle.
āLet me,ā you offered, gently tugging out his hand and grabbing a match. āAnd night vision, huh? That sounds useful.ā
He seemed genuinely shocked by the action, eyes widened slightly, before clearing his throat and taking a step back to let you strike the match and light the surrounding candles. āUh, yeah. Guess so.ā
Once the candles were lit, covering the room in a soft yellow glow, you gave him a smile. āSo, you were saying about dinner?ā
āRight, Iāll get on that. Sit tight.ā
That was an hour ago.
And now you sat with a plate in front of you, just finished chewing a tentative forkful of the charred hunk of meat placed there.
You watched Leon eat his own in one bite, simultaneously uneased by the way his sharp teeth shredded the morsel to bits in mere seconds, and fascinated.
Leon pulled a face as he swallowed, sighing deeply. āNo need to lie. That was awful.ā
āSorry. I really tried to like it,ā you said with an awkward laugh.
āDonāt be. Iām a little rusty in the kitchen. Been a long time since Iāve had company for dinner, you can imagine.ā He shrugged, āAnd if Iām being honest, even as a human, I was never really good at cooking. Much harder with these.ā
He held out his large hands, and you stared at the black claws that seemed to extend straight from his fingertips, their edges like daggers. Your gaze remained on them for a few moments before you rose it back to his face.
āIām guessing you eat your meat raw, then?āĀ
His eyes flicked away from you and he seemed almost ashamed. āYeah. I didnāt, at first. Tried to keep up with cooking. But I found it easierāand tastierāto eat it⦠fresh. Iām not human anymore and itās not like it can make me sick. Nothing can, actually.ā
āAh. And how does one⦠find that out?ā you knew the answer would unsettle you, but asked him anyway. It must have been morbid curiosity that drove you.
He looked uncomfortable at your questioning, and you saw his tail swish almost irritably behind him on the stool he sat upon. āIām not sure you want to know.ā
You bit your lip, feeling guilty for your nosiness. āIām sorry. You donāt have to tell me. But I wonāt judge you for it.ā
He let out a humorless laugh. āYouād be smarter if you did. You just met me, after all. Who's to say I didnāt lure you here to eat you because I like to toy with my food?āĀ
āWhat are you, the big bad wolf?ā you taunted, unconvinced.Ā
He leaned forward across the table, a long tongue sliding along his fangs as he stared you down, replying in a low voice that sent a shiver up your spine, āI could be. Donāt forget you can always start running, little rabbit.ā
You swallowed, trying to keep the nerves that twisted in your gut at bay. āI reiterate, no one has gone missing here in ten years. Youāre not munching on anybody.ā
āNo one whoās been reported. Youād be surprised how many drifters are in the world.ā His claws were now splayed on the wooden surface before you, digging into it.
You being youāa fool of the highest degreeāplaced your hand over his, hoping he didnāt grab your arm and sink his teeth into it. āYouāre not scaring me off, Leon. And we made a deal, remember? You owe me for being willing to keep my mouth shut.ā
He appeared dazed as he focused on your palm pressed to his knuckles, letting out a breath as he pulled away.
āYouāre stubborn.ā There was a faraway look in his eye as he added, āReminds me of someone I know⦠Knew.ā
āSomeone good, I hope?ā
He grinned, the already stretched skin of his mouth somehow pulling further. āThe best.ā
There was a tension between you that you couldnāt name, just looking at each other, when a loud scratching noise from the front door startled you.
āWhat the hell is that?ā you questioned lowly, your vision zeroing in on the concerning sound.
Leon stood, looking unbothered as he strode over to the door, explaining simply, āJust Wolfie.āĀ
You looked at him as if he lost his mind, standing from your chair and backing towards the corner of the room. āWolfie?ā
Before you could protest, he flung open the door and a flash of white fur came barreling into the house, black feathers flying through the air.
You yelped as it rushed straight to you, closing your eyes and bracing for an impact that never came.
You peeked down through your fingers and saw a large white wolf-dog sitting in front of you, its tail wagging as it offered you the thing in its mouth.
āGood boy, bringing me a crow,ā Leon praised in a strangely cute voice coming from⦠whatever the hell he was. It made something in you flutter.Ā
He walked over to you, leaning forward to pull the dead bird from the dogās mouth, holding it by its neck as he inspected it. āNow thatāll be a good midnight snack.ā
The dog nuzzled your leg, and you bent to pet him, trying to ignore the blood that stained his snout (and now your pants). You noticed the gray hairs that decorated his white fur.
Oh, youāre an old little man, you thought, ruffling the dogās thick coat.Ā Ā Ā
Disregarding the implications of your observation, you decided to poke fun at Leonās naming skills instead, saying, āWolfie, huh? How original.ā
Leon hung the bird on a rope by its feet in the kitchen, turning to face you with a roll of his crimson eyes. āDonāt start.ā
You giggled and he seemed to smile at the sound before glancing at the table and grimacing.
āSorry about dinner, by the way. That was the last of my meat, unless you want to eat the crow. I might let you cook it, though.ā
āItās okay, I brought plenty of food in my bag.ā
āStill, I really suck at this whole host thing.ā
āNot threatening to eat the guests would be a great start to fixing that,ā you teased.
āIāll keep that in mind for next time,ā he replied sarcastically.Ā
Leon took your plate and placed it on the floor, letting āWolfieā scarf down your uneaten meal. He stroked the dog on the head lovingly, and despite how odd it was to witness the arachnid-like creature interact with a household pet in such a way, it was somehow sweet.
āLivestock,ā he said after a moment, still crouched before his canine friend.
āWhat?ā
āHow I found out I liked raw meat.ā
āI see.āĀ
He glanced up at you, then, continuing, āThe villagers had livestock. Cows, pigs, chickens. Most of them were killed when the town dogs were turned by the Plagas. After I cleared out the parasites, I planned on keeping a few of the farm animals around, for eggs and milk, you know?ā
āWhy didnāt you?ā
āI tried. But then I went a few days without eating, the wildlife in the area having fled during the chaos. There was nothing to hunt. Even the fish seemed to be hiding. I⦠I blacked out. Woke back up digging my claws into a half-eaten pig, surrounded by the bodies of the other dead livestock. I guess IāI guess I went into a hunger frenzy and slaughtered them all. Thank god I hadnāt found Wolfie at that point. I worry what would have happened if he were there.ā
Your eyes widened at his confession, visibly stiffening up in horror.
He noticed your shift in demeanor and seemed to deflate, sighing miserably. āIt hasnāt happened since. As long as I have something to eat every couple of days, Iām not a threat to you.ā
Having witnessed him devour a chunk of venison just minutes prior, you relaxed marginally. āStill, a shame you wasted all that meat.ā
He scrunched his nose before responding, āActually⦠I didnāt waste it.ā
āWow, got quite the appetite, I take it?ā
āYes, but not that much.ā
His evasive answers confused you. āIām not sure what you mean.ā
āWell, I didnāt want to lose myself again after that, so what bodies were left, I skinned and chopped up, putting them in the icebox. But then I ran out of fuel and couldnāt use the generator anymore. The meat went rancid. I was going to throw it out, obviously, but I was getting hungry again and I just⦠ate it anyway.ā
You made a disgusted face. āYum. I guess if you canāt get sick, you wouldnāt have to worry about food poisoning. Bet it didnāt taste great, though.ā
āIt didnāt, but meat is meat. I could stomach it and it kept me from going feral again. Small price to pay.ā He sniffed as he stood up. āYou have every reason to be afraid of me. Disgusted. I know I am.ā
He looked away from you, then, his tail and appendages drooping in obvious distress.
You took a shaky exhale and stepped toward him, grabbing his arm and turning him to face you again, the confusion at your willingness to be closer to him after that conversation clear in his red irises.Ā
āIāll be honest, you make me nervous,ā you admitted. āBut youāre obviously trying your best to hang on to the more human side of you. And Iāve never met a living cryptid before, so I think I just need time to adjust. Thatās all.ā
āCould I even be considered a cryptid anymore if you know who and what I am now?ā he questioned with a light chuckle.
āI guess not to me, personally. But to the rest of the world? Still a cryptid, Iām afraid.ā
āIād rather not be anything to the world. Except maybe a long-forgotten ghost. Would make my life easier that way.ā
āWell, luckās on your side, cos with how popular my paranormal blog is becoming, I might be able to convince people this place is a bust and theyāll hopefully lose interest in El Escorpion altogether,ā you offered.
āYouād be willing to do that for me?ā
āFor the right price, of course,ā you told him, a sly smile on your face.
He snorted. āOf course.ā
Things seemed to ease after that, the two of you chatting well into the night after you chowed down on some of the food you packed yourself.
He divulged very little about his life before the transformation, opting to tell you funny stories of his antics in the wilderness instead. He asked you about your work and even after you warned him that once you started rambling, it was hard for you to stop, he encouraged you to anyway, seeming to listen intently.
You managed to circle back to why you ended up there with him in the first place, asking him about his run-ins with the occasional visitor. After describing his side of the various encounters, you both got a kick at how dramatically the others told their version of events, and how his cryptid name came to pass.
āThe Scorpion, huh?ā he asked in amusement, glancing at his own tail and appendages. āGuess theyāre not far off.ā
Eventually, the candles started burning down and a yawn bubbled up in your throat as you explained controversies in the cryptozoology community, like how some scholars speculated that certain cryptids are actually just very old B.O.W.s.
āAs interesting as this has been,ā Leon started after you let out another aggressive yawn, āI think itās time to call it a night.ā
āAnd I think I have to agree,ā you said with a smile. āWhereāre you putting me?āĀ
āCāmon, Iāll show you.āĀ
With that, he led you up the stairs, Wolfie hot on your heels. He took you to the door of the only bedroom in the building, opening it up to reveal a massive and very comfortable-looking canopy bed.Ā
You turned to Leon, confused. āThereās only one bed.ā
He chuckled, plopping down on a blanket folded up on the floor next to his furry companion. āYou take it. Iām good here.ā
āYou⦠sure?ā you questioned tentatively.
āPositive.ā
You nodded, smiling at him, and kicked off your shoes, climbing onto the mattress.
You watched him in shock as he fully retracted his appendages into his back.
He turned to catch you staring, eyebrows raised. āTake a picture, itāll last longer.ā
You cringed, feeling ashamed you got caught ogling him and his intriguing, monstrous form. āSorry, just didnāt⦠expect that.ā
āNever met a cryptid til now and you already have expectations?ā he joked, leaning on an elbow to look up at you. His already too-short shirt rode up further and you blushed when you noticed his lean, muscular stomach become more exposed, looking away quickly.
āYou know what I meant, you jerk,ā you chided light-heartedly.
He laughed, the loudest and most genuine one heād given to you since meeting him. The sound made you feel warm, and you werenāt sure why.
āGet some rest, now,ā he told you when his laughter subsided.
You stared at him for a moment longer after he turned away from you, curling up around his dog, before you replied, āGoodnight, Leon.āĀ
And with that, you leaned over to the bedside table and blew out the candle you had brought upstairs, darkness blanketing the room.
You stayed up for a while after that, mind going over the day, everything feeling so surreal from the moment you left the car just that afternoon.Ā
You could almost laugh to yourself as you drifted off to the sounds of Leon and Wolfieās deep, even breaths echoing in the room, a soft wind blowing across the windows.
Strange fuckinā day.
+++
Leon was the first to rouse from slumber, unfurling himself from Wolfie and slowly sitting up.Ā
He was a little stiff from laying in the same position on the hard floor for so long, but otherwise, it had been a good nightās rest.
That was odd, he thought.
He rarely slept at all.
He heard a light snore and turned to find your still-unconscious form wrapped tightly up in his blankets, protecting yourself against the early autumn chill that crept through the room.
Silently, he stood, petting the white dog beside him that snorted in protest at his movements, before making his way over to you.
Your hair was splayed out across the pillow, your eyelashes gently kissing your cheeks, and your round face seemed almost cherubic in the morning light that streamed in from the gap of the curtained window.Ā
Sleeping so peacefully with a monster mere feet from your vulnerable form.
He didnāt know what to make of you.
You had clearly been terrified the moment you saw him, and he could rationalize your initial inability to run as a freeze response, but you had heard a rustle in the foliage and got closer. You had seen glowing eyes and reached out. You had called him a liar when he told you he would eat you.
Did you have any sense of self-preservation?
Apparently not.
And then, despite your discomfort around him, you chatted with him like he was just another stranger passing on the street. And instead of ignoring his⦠differences⦠you commented on them. Asked about them as one would ask about the weather.
Well, you were a self-proclaimed paranormal investigator meeting a supposed cryptid, after all. It must have been a strange fascination that was causing you to be so curious instead of off-put.Ā Ā
But what confused him the most was the fact you had touched himāgently and with easeālike you would a friend and not a literal monster threatening to kill you.
He looked down at his clenched knuckles, recalling the warmth of your palm as it rested upon the back of his hand. He thought about the way you smiled at him, how you bantered with him and teased him.
After so long by himself, he wanted to bask in this human connection he made, despite knowing it was temporary. He hoped, after you left, it would tide him over until he was ready to say goodbye to this wretched existence for good.
He knew not to hope you would come back, or that heād be lucky enough to meet someone else that would be as willing to talk to him instead of running for the hills.Ā
Besides, as under control as he felt now that heād had a decade to maneuver in this new body, he wouldnāt want to risk hurting anyone. He had only ever lost control once and it haunted him ever since.
It was his worst fear, if he was honest with himself. To lose his mindāhis sentienceākept him up at night. Every day, he checked for signs that he might be mentally deteriorating, acting more beast than man. The farther away he stayed from other people, however, the harder it became to recognize how it was to be human in the first place.
All he knew was that he needed to end it before he ever reached that point, going from just threatening to eat trespassers, to ripping them limb from limb the moment he caught them.Ā
He couldnāt stand the thought of innocent blood on his hands after spending his whole life trying to protect it from being spilled at all.
You let out a sigh in your sleep and his gaze focused on you once more.
Despite how ridiculous you were to him, he was grateful to you for being so kind. Even as a human, he knew that that was often hard to come across. And sure, he was technically paying you off to avoid attention, but that didnāt mean you had to be friendly towards him, especially after the ill-advised admittance of his eating habits.
He wondered how he should go about waking you, wondering if he even should.Ā
Looks like he didnāt have to, though, when your eyes fluttered open and a scream left your lips as soon as you saw him.
He jumped back, holding up his hands in a gesture he hoped would dispel your fear. Wolfie leapt up, staggering with his old body, before growling and searching for the possible threat in the room, oblivious to the fact it was Leon who frightened you.
It would almost be funny if you didnāt shift across the bed to get away from him. He could hear your heart thrumming behind your ribs like it had when you first met, and his own sank a bit.
He was still a monster, after all.
āItās just me,ā he said in a low, calming voice.
āJesus, Leon, you scared the shit out of me!ā you replied, pressing your hand to your chest. āWere you watching me sleep?!ā
āSorry, I didnāt know how to wake you up. I was trying to avoid scaring you, but that was a wasted effort.ā
You let out a breathy chuckle, and he was pleased to hear your pulse rate begin to lower. āMaybe just call my name next time or something.ā
He rose a brow at that.
Next time?
No, you must have misspoken.
Clearly unaware of how you vexed him, you moved to the edge of the bed and pulled on your shoes, stretching your arms as you finally stood up. āWell, cāmon, then. Iām starving.ā
You petted Wolfie as you passed him by, the dog having calmed down from the excitement moments prior, before opening the door and strolling down the hall.Ā
Leon just stared after you, his mouth hanging ajar for a moment at your immediate change in demeanor. He still felt guilty that he had frightened you again, though this time completely by accident. It stung a bit, but he reminded himself that you should be afraid of a seven-foot-tall creature standing over you while you slept.Ā
He shook his head, as if to clear it, and followed you downstairs.
You had pulled out a cereal bar from your pack, munching away at it as you walked around the bottom floor of the house aimlessly. You turned to him as he made it into the dining room, swallowing a bite before speaking, āDonāt have much decor, I see.ā
He shrugged. āThere were pictures on the walls when I first settled in, but they were all of the people who died in the village and religious stuff. Felt weird to leave it up, so I put it all in the attic.ā
āAnd you just didnāt bother to add anything else?ā you teased.
āThe only artwork I might consider using is in the old castle, but I didnāt think the hassle of getting it was worth it.āĀ
āWait, thereās a castle and you chose to live here?ā you questioned in disbelief.
He sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck. āToo big. Plus itās just easier to hunt on this side of the lake.ā
āA man of simple pleasures. I can respect it,ā you told him, nodding sagely before you approached an empty shelf. āI take it there isnāt much literature around here, either?ā
āNot really. Mostly journals and religious texts. Not exactly my cup of tea.ā
āAnything from the cult?ā There was an intrigued glimmer in your eye and Leon wondered if he would ever get used to it.
āAll of it, actually.āĀ
āAnything⦠interesting?ā you asked, coming closer to him and clasping your hands together, the empty wrapper of your breakfast forgotten on the dining room table. He reminded himself to tell you to clean it up before you left.
āāDerangedā is probably more accurate,ā he said with a scoff. āBut if youāre really that curious, I can go grab one of them for you. Hope you can read Spanish.āĀ
Your eyes lit up like a kid in a candy store and he couldnāt help but find it endearing. āYes, I can read a bit! I tried to learn as much as I could before this trip and I also brought a translation dictionary!ā
āBe right back, then.ā
He quickly fished Los Illumindosā text from the attic, returning downstairs to find you brushing your teeth in the kitchen sink. When you traveled back into the dining room he placed it in your awaiting hands, and you practically squealed as you opened the old, ornate book.
āWow, itās beautiful,ā you whispered in awe, flipping through the pages. āAnd look at these illustrations! You mind if I keep this?ā
āBe my guest. I have no need for it,ā he replied, enjoying the way you pored over the text with visible excitement. You grabbed your translation dictionary from your pack and were about to get to work when Leon cleared his throat.
āNot to ruin your fun, but donāt you have to leave soon?āĀ
Your expression shifted, then, from one of glee to what he could only guess was disappointment. Almost like you didnāt want to leave. There was a spark of something at that, but he didnāt let it ignite.
āRight. My ride should be here soon,ā you told him after checking your phone. Despite your words, you didnāt move, and he wondered what you could possibly be thinking in that pretty head of yours.
When you finally dragged your feet to pack your bag, Leon remembered the items he promised you as payment for your silence concerning his meager existence. He excused himself before heading into the room beside the one you were standing in, reaching into a drawer and pulling out an old ring and a handful of jewels he had collected over the years.
āYou forgot something,ā he said to you, unfurling his clawed hand to reveal the precious items in his palm.
You grabbed the ring first, twisting it around as you appraised it. āIt seems a little early for a proposal, donāt you think, Leon?ā
He scoffed and rolled his eyes, but could feel a faint heat tinge the tip of his now-pointed ears and what remained of his cheeks. āYeah, you wish.ā
You offered an impish smile before taking the gemstones as well and pocketing them. āWell, I do hope these are actually worth something and arenāt just cheap knock-offs.ā
āDefinitely real, I swear. Those things are antique.ā
āThey better be, or else Iāll have to come back here and kick your ass.ā
He chuckled at the thought. āEasy there, tiger. Iām good on my word.ā
You nodded and a quiet fell over the room.
āWell, guess itās time to go,ā you eventually muttered, grabbing your backpack and swinging it onto your shoulders before you headed to the door. You were slow to reach for the handle, seeming almost⦠reluctant.Ā
āWhy donāt I⦠How about I walk you? Wouldnāt want you to get lost.ā He doesnāt know why he offered. If he was honest with himself, it was likely to prolong the last human interaction heād probably ever have.
And he couldnāt deny he liked your company, too.
You beamed at him as if thatās what you wanted him to say all along. āIād like that, Leon.ā
With Wolfie happily trotting behind the two of you, Leon led you into the early afternoon, the bright sun making him wince slightly, as it always did.
āYou okay?ā you questioned him. He shouldnāt have been surprised by your observation, already proving to him that very little got past you.
āYeah, just⦠sensitive to the light, is all,ā he replied with a squint of his eyes.
āReally? How come?ā
He chuckled. Ever curious, werenāt you? āThe Plagas areāwereādamaged by light.ā
āThen how are you even handling being outside right now?ā
āNot sure. Acclimated, I guess? I couldnāt go out during the day at all when I first turned. Then I just slowly spent more and more time in the sun. Itās⦠uncomfortable, but it doesnāt feel like Iām burning alive anymore.ā
āJesus,ā was all you were apparently able to say, gripping your backpack straps.
You were both quiet for a few minutes, and he was thinking of ways to keep talking, not wanting to end the interaction in awkward silence.
āSo I get you have a passion for the supernatural and all, but why come out here on your own? Donāt you have anyone who could come with you?ā
You sighed. āMy family and friends think Iām wasting my time. Iāve been on investigations with others like me, but I found I preferred to be alone.ā
āNot even a boyfriend worried about you, huh?ā He knew that was an unnecessary pry, but he couldnāt help but wonder.
āNot at the moment, no.ā
He felt a strange sort of relief, but refused to inspect it, instead pushing the conversation forward. āYou must be some kind of adrenaline junkie, then, to be running around in the middle of nowhere looking for monsters.ā
āMaybe a little.ā You shrugged. āYou must be, too, considering you were a cop and an agent, right?ā
āNo, thatās different. I became a cop in order to help people, not that I did much good at it. And I was forced to be an agent to protect someone. Donāt get me wrong, I canāt deny the rush of doing something dangerous, but I never really looked for it. Was just forced to face it. I just donāt understand why youād risk your life for a hobby.ā
āI guess I just want to find the truth about things, no matter what it takes.ā He sensed that maybe there was more to it than that as you looked away from him, instead focusing on the path ahead.
āWell, youāre lucky you havenāt gotten hurt yet. You have no idea if youāll run into a B.O.W., or even just a dangerous animal that wonāt hesitate to tear you to shreds,ā he admonished.
āI guess I am lucky,ā you agreed, nodding. āLucky I found a big softie like you instead.āĀ
He rolled his eyes at that. āI donāt know if you recall, but I told you I would eat you at least twice yesterday.āĀ
āAnd yet you didnāt. Interesting.ā
He wasnāt sure what to say to that, annoyed that you called him on his bluff. But then you looked up at him, radiant smile teasing and eyes bright.
He was surprised when the two of you were already at the lodge, past the village gate, so focused on you that he was mindless to anything else.
You moved to enter the building, but halted when he did, turning to face him in confusion.
āThis is as far as I go,ā he explained, Wolfie sitting politely at his side. āDonāt want to startle whoever is here to get you.āĀ
āRight, makes sense.ā
The two of you stood there silently for a few moments, and you seemed just as unwilling to say goodbye as he was.
āWell⦠guess I better go,ā you finally told him, kicking the dirt with the tip of your shoe.
āProbably a good idea.ā
āItās honestly a shame I have to leave already.ā
He raised a brow. āAnd why is that?ā
āBecause Iāve enjoyed getting to know you,ā you replied softly.Ā Ā
Leon was taken aback by that, something warm settling inside of him. To say he felt the same was an understatement. He didnāt voice it. In fact, he didnāt voice anything, feeling at a loss.
To dispel the tension, you quickly and teasingly added, āAnd I didnāt get to explore this place nearly as much as I wanted to.ā
āWell, there will always be other places.ā He cringed at his own words and how stupid they were.
āThere sure are.ā You laughed, the sound melodic, and he was reminded of your singing. How your voice alerted him to your presence just yesterday afternoon. It felt like a lifetime since then, and simultaneously like a blink of an eye.
āIt was nice to meet you, Leon.ā You held out your hand to him, and he realized after a moment of staring at it you meant for him to shake it. It was a far cry from the day before, certainly.Ā
āYou too,ā he said, gingerly touching his palm against your own and shaking your hand carefully, enjoying the warmth of it against his always-cool skin.
You released himāfar too soon, he feltāand his arm fell lamely at his side.
You petted Wolfie, scratching his ears affectionately as you said goodbye to the old dog, before focusing back on Leon.
You seemed almost somber as you told him earnestly, āI hope the rest of your life is kind to you.āĀ
He looked over your form, committing everything to memory. The shade of your eyes, your round cheeks, your soft curves, the shape of your lips and how they framed your smile.Ā
The urge to caress your face was a shockingly difficult one to ignore.
With all his mental strength, he managed to refrain, saying instead, āSame for you.ā
You nodded once, offering a final wave, and then you were through the door.
Leon stood there for a long time, hearing your footsteps getting more and more distant. He stayed in place even as he heard you greet your ride.
He stayed until the car pulled away, the sound of it fading completely.
All was quiet once more.
It felt suffocating.
Wolfie nudged Leonās leg and finally, he moved, begrudgingly turning on his heels and heading back to the house.
He was lost in thought as he arrived, closing himself into the dark once more.
He grabbed the crow that Wolfie had caught the night before, planning on plucking it clean and sharing it with him, until he noticed a folded piece of paper on the kitchen counter.
Curious, he stopped in his tracks, picking it up and gently prying it open with his claws. Inside of it was a small, crude drawing of a rabbit, a short note scrawled underneath that read:
Something to remember me by~
Your lil bunny rabbit
He couldnāt stop the chuckle that left his mouth, echoing in the empty room.
After a moment, he set down the page, sighing deeplyāwarily.
Leon was alone again.
+++
The rest of your day had passed in a blur, barely able to hold a conversation with the local who picked you up from the village and took you to your hotel room. You paced for a long time once you arrived, eventually ordering takeout to abate your growling stomach, but eating it without really tasting it.
Your mind could only focus on Leon.
Maybe you were crazy, but he seemed just as regretful to say goodbye as you had been.
He did say you were the only person heād spoken to in ten years, so you didnāt want to let yourself hope that perhaps the connection with him you felt you made was genuine. He was just lonely, and you were just a stranger, after all.
You sighed, pulling the golden ring he gave you from your pocket as you sprawled across the bed, holding it up to the light to watch the ruby set into it shimmer. It reminded you of his eyes.
You groaned.
Your flight was tomorrow morning, and now you had to make up some lie on your blog that was interesting enough to read without encouraging anyone to seek out the village themselves.Ā
Tall order.
You tried to focus on what you could potentially say, but all your thoughts led straight back to the strange creature you spent the night with.
He was lonely, yes. But so were you.
You glanced at the time on your phone, knowing you needed to sleep before your flight home.
But then an idea crossed your mind.
This trip was meant exclusively for business, not pleasure, and you realized you hadnāt been on a proper vacation in a long, long time. Your savings were in good shape, your rent was paid for the month, and you worked from home.
You held the ring in your hand, closing your fist around it, the gem decorating it digging into your palm just hard enough to sting.

Iāve been lurking in the MHA fandom for a while now, just kind of silently watching, and I have a few observations that I would like to make. Just perspectives that I would like to put out into the universe. I am on the older side of this website, much less this fandom and so I am no stranger to fandom culture. And when I say old? I mean like I was an active participant on ff.net circa 2005 so like, Iām sure some of you are older but Iām getting up there. My point? Iāve seen things.
As far as fandoms go in general, the MHA is far from the most toxic that Iāve seen but there does seem to be a few points of contention and per usual it comes back to shipping. This is nothing new but lets speak a little on BakuDeku as a ship. I warn you now, itās not always going to be things you want to hear, but I encourage you to read to the end anyway.Ā
Hey everyone. As you may or may not know, my tumblr is pretty dead. I have moved on to posting my art and such on Twitter from now on. I have gotten *heavily* into Final Fantasy 14 in the last year or so, and I am still going at it. If anyone is interested in following me on my FFXIV Twitter account, itās @LomaesArt.

Flowers for Algernon, The Clever Asshole Trope, and Why Intelligence Doesnāt Mean Shit
Iām writing this because I am so tired of how much value is placed on intelligence, both in the way we view ourselves and in how we see and treat other people.Ā
To start off, I was āgiftedā as a kid. I wasnāt pretty, I wasnāt white, I generally had a shitty, lonely childhood, and for the longest time it felt like the only thing I had going for me was the fact that I was clever. It was one thing no one could take away from me. The only compliment I ever got for maybe the first sixteen years of my life - and a compliment I still get, that makes me cringe now - wasĀ āyouāre so smart.ā And so thatās how I saw myself, for the longest time. Being smart was something to be proud of, something to revel in. This arbitrary, genetic trait that meant I could learn faster, memorize easier, do better. And yet everyone treated it like it was some great accomplishment, something to be praised, or desired.Ā
And then I read Flowers for Algernon. That book basically took the one thing I used to define myself and threw it in the trash. It quite literally messed with my mind and forced me to reframe how I viewed myself, how I valued myself. It follows Charlie, a man with an incredibly low IQ who is offered a treatment that will supposedly make him smart. That book basically took the idea of the value of intelligence and dismantled it into pieces. Because, really, how can you value someone for their intelligence? When Charlie receives his treatment, and becomes smarter, does he become a more valuable person? Intelligence is as arbitrary a characteristic as beauty. And yet somehow, people still treat intelligence as if its something people deserve merit for. We readily accept that beauty is something placed in the hands of the genetic lottery, and that, ultimately, itās nothing more than a meaningless social construct. But if youāre intelligentĀ - suddenly itās an indicator of your character and you deserve praise and pride.Ā
And this is heartbreakingly reflected in the booklr community. Itās so obviously apparent in the way so many of us instantly gravitate towards the clever asshole stereotype in books - the Artemis Fowls and Kaz Brekkers of literature. Iām not saying thereās anything wrong with loving these kinds of characters, I just want to point a finger towards whyĀ we find these characters so appealing. What, exactly, is so attractive about morally depraved characters who are intelligent and smart and clever? Even going back to a classic, Harry Potter, how many of us want to be Ravenclaws and Slytherins - intelligent and cunning? Why is it that these are the things we value, rather than traits that are in our control? Why place so much value on these meaningless, arbitrary aspects of character - things we are born with or without - rather than the aspects of character that we chooseĀ for ourselves? Whether you choose to be an asshole - clever or not - or whether you choose kindness, and selflessness?Ā
It is said that being good is boring. Well you know what? Fuck that. Choose to be kind. Choose to be a positive influence in other peopleās lives. Choose to be selfless. Whoever wants their beauty and intelligence can have them, but please just consider what valuing these things means, and how they truly factor into a person and their character, whether they be real or fictional. I know there are a lot of good, kind people in this world, and I hope to see more who are truly valued for that in books. Because what we need is not wit beyond measure, but people who choose good.Ā
