Karlach had finally gotten her second upgrade from Dammon. Wyll was the first person to embrace her in a big hug.

“Karlach this won’t fix your engine. In the end it will burn you from the inside out and I know you would rather die here then go back to Avernus, but you have to at least give it thought.”

“I’m never ever going back! If it’s a choice of living in Avernus for 1,000 years or bust right now!! I’D CHOOSE BUST!” Karlach said angrily

“I know…but I may have someone in Baldur’s Gate that might be able to help. An elf with some of the most powerful healing magic I have ever seen. She goes by ‘Katherine’ no clue if that is the name she is still going by, but she should still be in Baldur’s Gate. The only issue is, she only heals those who are worthy of it. I don’t know how she knows it but if you can be helped, she will know your name. It’s a clinic in the city called Waypoint Clinic. If I see her in the city before you do, I will try to talk to her, maybe get you in with her.”

Karlach was suspicious but thought it wouldn’t hurt to at least give it a try. ‘What I got to lose.’ She thought. Halsin with a curious expression asks

“Do you know where she is from? Maybe we can find out more about her on the way to Baldur’s Gate.” Halsin says hopefully truly yearning to help Karlach.

“No one knows much about her. Except for her assistants but they don’t say much about her. All very nice so they will be the ones to help with minor injuries or illnesses. But she only helps those that deserve it, and she will know if you’ve done evil.” Dammon says and he looks around his forge for a pen and paper.

“Soldier…I know I may be nice, but I have done…bad things in my life. I’m not sure I am deserving of help.” Karlach says defeated.

“I thought you had said you were given UN-willingly to Zariel to serve in the Bloodwar.” Shadowheart inquiries.

“Well yes, but still. I have lots of blood on my hands. But it is worth a shot anyway. Let’s get to moonrise tower and get the hells over to this clinic.” Karlach says with what little hope she had left in her body.

*I have yet to actually finish the game yet. So, I am just going to skip the rest of act 2. Sorry, this story takes place in Act 3 anyways. Please also bear with me if something is not exactly right, I am trying to do some research on act 3 so it makes the most sense but don’t want to spoil everything for myself*

After being in the city for a few days Karlach is more than defeated as she walks up to an abandoned building that looked like an old clinic. ShadowHeart is the first to approach Karlach who is on her knees in front of the one place she thought could possibly be the answer to getting her life back. ShadowHeart puts her hand on her shoulder.

“Karlach…I’m so sorry. We will find a solution I promise.”

“THIS…was supposed to be the answer…there is nothing left now. Let’s just finish off Gortash and maybe just MAYBE I will not explode before we get this elder brain out of the way.” Karlach says her heat is rising by the second.

“Karlach please, try to calm down…let’s have a few days rest to think things over. Nothing is happening right now.” Halsin says he is trying to keep Karlach at least somewhat stable.

“I need to be alone right now.” She says and stomps away from the group and goes to her parents’ graves. She just sits close to the grave with her head in her knees taking in the quietness of the graveyard until she hears some footsteps behind her. “I want to live solider…I’m not ready to die and go back to the Hells. This isn’t fair!” Karlach says barely above a whisper. Her metal heart broke if that was even possible.

“How can this stupid thing be fixed! I never asked for any of this…what did I do to deserve this.” Karlach's face is steaming from her tears as she looks at the person sitting next to her. Only to find it wasn’t any of her companions but an Elf. She looks half in shock and half in wonder. The elf was very pale with long white hair and long white eyelashes to follow.

“I-umm didn’t mean to say all that…I thought you were some else.” She says slightly uncomfortable that she just told a stranger her burden.

“These things can be hard, Karlach. Fate is an odd thing with no true meaning behind what happens to us but if there is something that can be done for it or with it. Fate might just point the way for you.” The elf says with a calm demeanor as she conjures up some Lotuses around her parents’ graves making a beautiful display for Karlach to enjoy.

“They would have been very proud of the person you have become.” The elf says with certainty.

“Then enlighten me. Tell me about Karlach.” She says swiveling in the dirt to face Karlach with a soft smile, her downward pointing ear making her look like a small fawn.

“Okay…fine.” Karlach says with both hatred but a small bit of comfort that someone was truly willing to listen to her. Karlach regales her tale of wo and the eld only sits and listens as Karlach talks. After a while the sun sets and the graveyard is darkened hollow with no soul but theirs. “Alright soldier. “Anywhat?” Karlach says with piqued interest.

A smile that Karlach was taken by but still weary of. Karlach sighs and gives her a small smile and takes her hand. The touch of her had Karlach’s fire stirring and making her lower stomach tight.

“Alright, Solider. I will talk with them, and we can all decide if we would like to stay with you. I might come by tonight tho…I…it was nice talking to you soldier. “Of course, that is a hard thing to have to carry all alone.” She smiles and lets go of Karlach's hand. She returns the smile in full as they start to walk out of the graveyard and back to where she has left her companions. When she doesn’t stop them, she starts to panic.

‘Shit! Where could they have gone?! Is she tricking me – fuck- I knew this was a bad idea.’ Karlach head starts going to worst case scenarios.

“Karlach, I can practically hear your thoughts. It’s all fine, my assistants offered them a place to drink and stay while they were in town. They are simply back at our place.” She calmly explains and this helps Karlach a little bit, but she is still nervous as they walk through the dark alleys and streets of town to a building near the bay of Baldur’s Gate. Getting to a building on the bay where Karlach can already hear the laughter of her companions and relaxes her shoulders little. They walk to the back door of the building but right before they go in Karlach thinks of something. The elf stops when Karlach does follow her in and asks

“Everything okay?”

“I never told you my name…did I.”

The elf only smiles and steps to their side of the door giving a small bow and a gesture to come on in.
