Apologies [ Morgan | Card Marth ]
āAh, yes! Got it! A Second Seal!āĀ
Morgan clambered back out, gingerly holding a spherical object in his hands. The air seemed to distort and hum around the Second Seal, the itemās latent energy subliming outwards like vapor tendrils.Ā
āIf you still wanna go ahead with this, you can take this and see if it works! We should figure out what you want to be, though. Iām not too sure on the finer details of this, we donāt want any accidents or to waste a Second Seal⦠you wanna be a Mage? Sorcerer? I dunno, what other classes get to wield tomes? A Tactician like me?ā
Marth took the object. It felt... familiar, somehow. The energy tendrils exuding from it melded seamlessly into his own blue aura. Even though the details were hazy in his memory, he knew that he had used it before. And he would know how to use it again.
There was a crack from the seal, and it burst open, radiating a shower of sparks. The miniature meteors circled around him, brieflyĀ dissolving into the Einherjar's aura before reappearing as lines of blue energy. They hovered close to him, shifting in appearance before settling down into an appropriate replica of the outlines of Morgan's jacket.
Kai gave Marth back his hand and looked up,ā I donāt know if you could tell, but most animals greet eachother by scent to identify the other. I should stop dwelling on the past for now and pay attention to who you are, not who you remind me of.ā She intended to make good relations between them, Marth seemed like a lost pup who needed some guidance.
That was a fact he did not know of. Marth had not been exposed to animals during much of his afterlife. Kai's statement was therefore an interesting bit of trivia. Her next sentence, however, made less sense. She was stating her intention - which did not leave much clues for him toĀ interpret.
What was he to do now?
The Einherjar nodded, but his expression remained faintly confused.
Execution [ Morgan | Marth ]
ā¦
so long, world.
Morgan bowed his head as the executioner led him up to the noose. The stand wobbled underneath him, the rope chafed his neck where it was jerked roughly over his head and under his chin and pulled tight-Ā urk- he tiptoed slightly, shifting his weight nervously where he stood, struggling to swallow as he lifted his eyes feverishly skywards-Ā
thanks for the memories-
-?Ā
The crowds were scattering, he registered screaming through the static buzzing in his ears; the executioner, about to kick out the stand from under his feet and let him swing, opted instead to pause and stare.Ā
ā¦huh?
Well. Death by meteor and death by hanging was still death. Tethered down by the noose, Morgan could do nothing but flinch in anticipation of the impact-Ā
The humans scattered before his path, which was the intended effect. However, the one most likely to endanger the youngest Master did not flee - something that had to be addressed immediately.
He began to formshift upon reaching the last arc of his descent, reverting back to human form in a flash. Marth's momentum, coupled with his sudden materialization, was enough to knock the executioner off the stand. The Einherjar made sure that his target had fallen off before dematerializing. Gravity's pull instantly disappeared, and he re-emerged back onto the stage.
Morgan was tethered to a frame by a rope around his neck. Marth made short work of the rope, severing it with a swift slice of his rapier.
Now what?
He gave Morgan an expectant look.

[Einherjar Marth | Emmeryn]
āAhā¦!ā Emmeryn watched as a sudden change overtook Marthās features. Had she upset him? āIām sorryā¦ā she took another step forward, and for the first time, her fingers closed around his wrist. It was a surreal feeling, the being before her warm and living yet not quite completely physical to the touch. But Emmeryn still looked worriedly at him, seeing his gaze clouded by something she could only guess was pain.
āAre you⦠alrightā¦? I⦠Iām sorry⦠My question⦠you⦠I should not⦠I apologizeā¦ā Again, she searched his face, trying to discern his thoughts.
Marth stopped trying to push against the Maker's barrier, and the pain faded somewhat, retreating to form a dark haze at the edge of his vision. He then became aware of a pressure on his wrist - it took him a few seconds to process what it was.
Emmeryn had somehow decided to touch him.
It was probably by luck that he had managed not to dematerialize - if he had done so, the shock of passing through a mortal would have incapacitated him.Ā
āAre you⦠alrightā¦? I⦠Iām sorry⦠My question⦠you⦠I should not⦠I apologizeā¦ā
"i... I can't... remember - " his answer was cut short by a coughing fit. " - it's not... your fault..."
It was his. The other Einherjar had their memories - so why did the Makers decree that his was out of bounds? It made very little sense, unless...
... unless remembering would prevent him fromĀ fulfillingĀ the purpose he was made for.
[Einherjar Marth | Emmeryn]
āAncestorā¦?ā Emmerynās eyes widened. She had remembered nothing of the past, her own history a blur of unfamiliar names and faces in the aftermath of her fall. And yet, here stood a remnant of the past,Ā her past, in the form of this spirit that seemed to no longer be part of this world, yet bound to it.
āA thousand years⦠you⦠this spiritā¦?ā Emmeryn asked slowly, worry creeping into her features. āI⦠how much⦠do you remember⦠wars⦠suffering⦠such pain⦠for so longā¦?ā
It felt strange to have a conversation partner who spoke with a speed similar to his - almost... nice. For once, he did not have to think too much about their words.Ā
His identity seemed to give Emmeryn a shock - but then, it usually did.Ā However, her question... was... more...Ā
āI⦠how much⦠do you remember⦠wars⦠suffering⦠such pain⦠for so longā¦?ā
... difficult to answer.
Marth looked down, his expression torn between confusion and anguish. It was about his memory again - something which the Makers ensured he would never know about. Ā He tried to remember, to recall what had happened before his death.
A few voices, sentences, events flashed through his mind - and then nothing.Ā It was as if he had hit a barrier.Ā He tried to force the obstruction out of the way, but it held. Despite the will he had been endowed with, it would not yield -
- there was a crack, as if something gave way -
- and the backlash hit him. The world flickered before his eyes, and pain blossomed where his heart would have been. It bore an eerie similarity to a previous occasion, where two of his Masters had given contradictory orders -
- the Makers decreed his memory out of bounds. Why had he been so foolish to resist?
A huffed sigh around the globe of sugar in his mouth, a wrinkle of his nose and a screw of his eyes. Gaius happened to find himself incredibly restless, and in no mood at all to take up one of his hobbies. Unless that hobby happened to be ingestion of sugar, but since heād already taken up sucking on a lollipop a couple of minutes ago he once again lapsed into boredom.
Which might have explained his wandering off into the wilderness, a hand resting lazily on the hilt of his sword and the other twirling the stick of the strawberry flavoured candy perched between his lips. He was hardly the kind of guy to invite danger or trouble, quite the opposite actually, but he did wish something interesting would happen; sherbet rain, or something, for example.Ā
That being said, it was no surprise that excitement coursed through him when eyes fell on a figure in the distance. Muscles tensed, fingers quivered before grasping his weapon and nostrils flared as he readied himself for battle. ā¦until he noticed the strange aura surrounding the person heād spotted.Ā
Tch⦠that weird Prince-Hero-King-warrior Boss-Man had summoned outta that one card thing⦠They kinda creeped him out a little, if he was honest; they were too much like ghosts, or similar, for his liking. Not that he really understood it, of course, and it would be unfair of him to dislike on creepy-spook factors alone.Ā
Fingers slid from his sword hilt and he righted himself, trying to pretend he hadnāt been ready to pounce the poor prince with the fury of a man bored. A clear of his throat and a random hand gesture, the air of awkwardness surrounding the thief hardly subtle. ā¦how did one greet someone who wasnāt⦠real, for a lack of better words?
The Masters had given no orders.
It caused him no end of frustration - if such a word could even be used. What purpose would he serve, if he was not given tasks to accomplish? Idleness formed an incessant annoyance - and perhaps a shadow of a punishment. The compulsion forced him to obey; and with nothing to obey -
- the emptiness was almost crushing.
So he had left. Away from the incessant chatter of the Shepherds' camp, away from mortals, from the living. They were too... alive.
He had spent a good part of the day out on the plains, without humans for miles around. But a presence was approaching - homing in on him, even. A human, one he vaguely recognized, someone from the Shepherds' camp.
Though, what was he to say?
The situation was somewhat improved by the human's attempt at interaction. Marth turned, and remembered to materialize - in the sunlight, he would otherwise have appeared half-transparent.
"... may I... help you?"
[Einherjar Marth | Emmeryn]
Emmeryn, almost instinctively, took a step forward as she listened to Marth speak. āYou sound⦠the same⦠I alsoā¦ā she drifted off in a perplexed tone. Emmeryn knew that the reason she talked this way was because of her fall. āYou are⦠were⦠injured⦠as wellā¦?ā
Her eyes swept across Marthās face, studying it intently, but feeling no spark of recognition. āYou say⦠you were⦠Marth⦠Who⦠was Marthā¦?ā
"No... not... really. I... I was... made this way, the Makers decreed it to be so."Ā He shook his head slowly.Ā "I... I could not think, at first... being self-aware... is... difficult."
So she did not know who his Mirror was.
"I... I used to be... your ancestor... I believe so, a thousand years... before now, I lived... once."
Execution [ Morgan | Marth ]
My muse is about to be executed and your muse is standing among the crowd, watching. How do they react?Ā
The skies were filled with puffy clouds and radiant sunshine. A beautiful day for an execution. He bowed his head against the harsh sunlight, trying to commit these sights and sounds to memory; his last experiences of breathing, of sight, the sharp taste of blood in his mouth from when he bit his tongue to the bead of sweat rolling down his temple. Funny how much you donāt notice things until youāre about to lose them. Funny how you donāt notice all the details about simplyĀ living until youāre standing up on a wooden platform and hearing theĀ creakĀ of wood as people secure the noose.Ā
There wasnāt a familiar face anywhere to be seen. After all, everyone else was gone- dead or imprisoned or put to the noose before him, he had seen people cleaning up the trail of blood where the body before him was dragged offstage. Hanged, drawn, quartered, Morgan guessed.Ā
Would that be what awaited him at the end of his rope?Ā
Marth did not understand much of what went on in the world. Many of his Masters' comrades were being put to death - for reasons that never became clear to him.
One by one, the Masters also fell. His bonds of servitude were weakening - and now, the last and youngest Master was being put to the blade.Ā He had one more mission, left by the white-haired Master. Robin.
You must.. make sure... Morgan lives. He is the last... of the Exalted bloodline... and the last... go, Marth! I pray you keep my son safe -
- it was time to act.Ā
HumansĀ congregateĀ before an execution - a habit he presumed was unique to the living. It would complicate things... to say the least. Getting close enough to the crowd was no issue, but the Einherjar had no idea what to do next. Apart from the most obvious course of action.
He allowed his form to dissolve, condensing into an incandescent orb of light, recreating a form which humans were reasonably afraid of - a meteor, or in other words, a flaming missile, aimed straight for the execution stage.

Kai gently took his hand and held it close to her nose to smell. Alternatively hindquarters could be smelled, but human sociality was different from wolves'. She couldn't greet someone properly without knowing their scent, it just felt... Off to do so. " Hm..." there was a distinct lack of ink and paper scent but his scent in general reminds the same.
Kai sniffed his hand.
Marth had no idea what to do, so he simply remained still. The gesture evidently meant something to Kai, though, but he did not know what.
And she knew his Mirror... it complicated things. The Makers never intended for him to know anything about the person he was copied from.
[Einherjar Marth | Emmeryn]
āAhā¦ā Emmerynās brows furrowed as she considered his statement, retracting her hand slowly. āYou⦠do not rememberā¦?ā She stared at Marth. He seemed so similar to her, even the way that he spoke.
āYou say⦠your name⦠is Marth⦠You fight⦠for Chromā¦? I⦠your name⦠is familiarā¦ā She did not remember ever talking to a spirit who dressed like her niece, yet there was a fleeting memory of that name being mentioned. āIām sorry⦠I also⦠do not remember⦠muchā¦ā
He shook his head slowly, allowing confusion to cloud his features.
"I... I serve... Chrom, yes... though my alleigance... is not... merely bound to him." Marth said with a slight nod. "There are... also... three more... whom... I cannot... disobey."
So Emmeryn also had a fragmented memory... this was a curious similarity. He debated whether to mention it, but decided otherwise.
Kai shook her head,ā No, donāt apologize. You havenāt done anything wrong.ā He didnāt seem capable of hurting peopleās feelings intentionally anyway.ā I just miss him, thatās all.ā Marth was here, and yet he was not⦠The mercenary held out her hand to him,ā May I see your hand?ā
Marth gave her a slow nod. He still had not fully grasped the complexity of human relations, so it was best to just go with what Kai was saying.
āMay I see your hand?ā
That was... a strange request. He recalled someone telling him that he was very cold - given the fact that Einherjars' temperatures matched that of the surroundings, it was not too much of a surprise. Perhaps it was only because the living were too accustomed to their own warmth.
Was she going to touch him? He hoped not.
He hesitantly offered his hands to her, palms facing up.
"So am I!" Morgan said proudly, "I have a nickname, it's "Gift from Afar". A bit fanciful, but Mother gave it to me, so I don't mind that much. If you don't want to spend time with the others we could always go off together for a bit. There are brigands to rout, Risen to vanquish, oh and stores with amazing clothes and weapons. Do you think you'd be willing to join me?"
Morgan spoke very quickly - it took a few moments for the Einherjar to fully understand what the child had said. So, Morgan had a nickname... which was... apparently related to his origin. But... even though they came from different timelines.. the difference between this difference....
... it was hard to put it into proper terms.
The child had also extended an invitation. Marth did not know whether to accept it.
"... I ... suppose... so... though... only if... you do not mind."
āI still find it strange how a large part of Marth is you, yet completely differentā¦ā Kai missed the Marth she knew. It was an odd thing to see him again, or more someone that was just a part of him.
The Einherjar gave Kai a confused glance. Many people had pointed this out, in varying ways of phrasing... but why so? The Makers had copied everything, down to the smallest detail...
... this was all so confusing. Perhaps coming out of the Outrealm was not a good idea after all. But he did not have a say in the matter.
"... I... I am... sorry..."

[Einherjar Marth | Emmeryn]
āEinā¦herjarā¦ā Emmeryn repeated slowly, her eyes widening as the glimmering light briefly cast upon the leaves around them. She had only ever remembered seeing transformed Manaketes emit such an otherworldly glow. āMarthā¦?ā She had heard that name before, but where, she did not remember.
āYou are⦠a spirit⦠You are⦠not humanā¦?ā Emmeryn reached out, her hand stopping hesitantly a few inches from Marthās arm.
Emmeryn did not seem to know who his Mirror was. This was curious... most mortals did.Ā
"I... I was... human... once. But no longer..." Marth averted his eyes, unsure of what to say next. She seemed about to touch him - as a safety precaution, he made sure to materialize properly.
"... I... do not... remember much of it. What it means... to be alive."
"You're prince Marth, aren't you? It's an honor to meet you sir. I'm Morgan." he said to him, ignoring the fact that Marth was an Einherjar. To him this was a trivial detail, no matter how it was sliced this was Prince Marth, who bested Gharnef and was the slayer of Medeus. "I have so many questions to ask you...Like why are you here on the outskirts of the camp? Everyone is over there. Are you afraid you'll scare them?"Ā
Morgan's barrage of questions was overwhelming, at first, and more seemed slated to follow. He suppressed a sigh, trying to compose a decent reply.
"... Ah... I... I was not... tasked... to do anything. I thought it... best... to remain away from the living." He said after a pause. "They seem to... find me... startling, some how."
Marth closed his eyes briefly.
"I... I am not from here... from... somewhere... else..."
