Now that we know the brain scans and real life divide is a thing, I think that opens up so many possibilities for how the real life circus gang could meet or know each other post-show - namely, through dreams.

The scanned copies of each person are still that person, though in a form of stasis based on how their mind was when they each put on the headset. And in dreams, your brain inserts people and places that you have already seen no matter how unfamiliar they are; it can never make something entirely new.

I’d like to believe the real life circus gang dream about their other selves and their lives in the circus, but the experience is so strange and incomprehensible that they can’t explain it to anyone else. All they know is that it started after they tried on the headset, and the world they enter in their dreams stays somewhat consistent despite how wacky it gets.

That and those strangers on the bus seem very, very familiar to them.

A poignant, magic kind of familiar, despite their real faces being the opposite… that ensures it’s only a short matter of time before they know each other in the real world.
