The show says that gems come out of the ground already knowing what their purpose is right?

But CG didn't seem to know anything about herself. She was even surprised to find out that she can display people's memories. Even though that's something that her gem kind were made for.

So I wonder why that is. Unless I'm missing something. 😅

Amethyst came out of the ground not really knowing her purpose either, so it's definitely not an isolated incident.

There are hints about it in the comic, ironically from White Diamond herself, if you look close enough. :) But the more simple blanket answer is - she doesn't really HAVE a 'designation' or job the way other gems do. When Steven made her, he did so unwittingly, without a specific process in mind.

I don't think of myself as the kind of person who would continue ANYTHING I hated out of pure obligation alone.

The answer to this is simple, but also complex.

The simple truth is - yeah, I still love Steven Universe. I still love the world, I love the characters and the story. I'm still out there getting mad when people misunderstand/misinterpret basic character information.

That all being said....

Obsession is not the reason I keep drawing this comic.

It would be more accurate to say that my commitment to this story is mostly the result of discipline and habit. By taking on progressively larger and larger projects throughout my art career, I've learned how to manage a long-term comic without crashing out and burning.

This wasn't a skill I had ten years ago. This was earned through a lot of small steps towards building my own tolerance, AND (importantly!) by allowing myself breaks once in a while.
