Hey do you have any recommendations for Korean books for a beginner? And by beginner I mean beginner lol maybe any children books? Audiobooks and reading books are both fine!
Hi, first of all I just want to say that I live in Korea say all the books that I’m going to recommend are sold in Korea, I’m not sure if they are sold outside of Korea but I guess you can find that out yourself!
1. Talk to me in Korean series
This is pretty much the basic books that all Korean learners need to get their hands on. They teach you from the mos minute things like saying “Hi” and introducing yourself to a little bit more advanced aspects like how to use and when to use certain words or phrases.
2. 한국어와 한국문화 Series
These books are used in the KIIP (Korea Immigration & Integration Program) in Korea. You will learn the most standard Korean here as well as a lot about Korean culture (including economy, politics, systems, etc.)
3. TOPIK 1 한 권이면 OK(영어판)
TOPIK books are always a great way to level up your writing, reading and listening skill. And in my opinion, this book (and the TOPIK 2 book as well) is the best out of all TOPIK books.
4. 전래동화로 배우는 한국어
Basically this book teaches you Korean by telling you traditional folk tales. It comes with a CD and translation in English.
5. 다문화가정과 함께하는 즐거운 한국어
This one focuses on real life conversations since theory and practice are COMPLETELY different when it comes to Korean. Another reason why I like this book is because it has pretty design, unlike those boring generically looking books 😂
6. Korean Grammar in Use
This one is a must. Basic grammars shape your pattern of speech and getting a good base for your Korean skills is the best way to start off your journey.
And that’s it! I hope this is what you want, I passed my beginner phase a long time ago so I’m not really sure if these are too hard for me. Let me know if they are!
