Mother Dust grinned. "It tastes great."

Sally nodded. "He put me straight in the lifeboat...he did it all right" She promised.
âGood. He kept you safe. He put you firstâ Enid said seriously
"Yes. But I...I was so scared...I was so scared I wouldn't get home to you!" She cried, destroyed. "I'm sorry!" She felt so guilty.
âItâs alrightâŠ. Donât be sorry auntie, Iâm just so happy youâre safe!â Enid said
Sally nodded. "It was so terrifying!" She exclaimed, clinging on.

Miss Bunting was exhausted. After hearing what happened to the kidnapped Ymbrynes in Ireland, Esmeralda had ended up having another breakdown, and though Miss Bunting felt no better it was once more upon her to keep everything going.
She looked at the students. "Read chapter 51, ndnI will be back soon" she said, knowing that she needed to check on Alma. Since the incident with the knife she was now literally kept under lock and key, something that seemed to upset her. It didn't help that she wanted Esmeralda and not Rosemary, but could have the later.
Sighing, she remembered she had to check on esmeralda too.
The students grumbled quietly. They were getting bored and they missed more hands on class activities.
Miss peregrine was sitting in her room, her face pressed against the window, her eyes glazed.
Miss Bunting was too tired to even try to calm them down, running down the corridor, locking up her room. "Alma, how are you?" She asked, quickly sitting down.
Miss peregrine looked over at her but didnât answer, she just continuidad tk stare out the window.
"Alma, talk to me. I know you refused to eat breakfast and I'm worried." Miss Bunting said. She was too tired to beat around the bush.
âIâm not hungryâ Miss peregrine said. âYou donât have to worryâ
"And how are you feeling otherwise?" Miss Buntif asked. "Any...any more suicidal thoughts?"
âIâm fineâ miss Peregrine shrugged, still staring out the window absently. Her hair was loose and she hadnât brushed it in a while.
"Will you eat lunch later?" Miss Bunting asked. "I can fix your hair if you want."
âAlrightâ Miss Peregrine said quietly. âIâm not hungryâ she added.
"Well you will need to eat something today" she said firmly. "Is there anything you want to eat?" She asked, starting to brush her ling boue-black hair.
Miss peregrine shook her head. âI donât feel like eatingâ she frowned, still gazing into outer space.
"Alma, eating is not negotiable. I will not let you starve yourself to death if rhat is your new trick." She said seriously.
âIâm not hungry Rosemary! Iâm not doing anything!â Miss peregrine said, whipping around to look at her. There were dark circles beneath her eyes.
"Alma...maybe you should lie down and have a nap? I can tuck you in." She siggested sweetly.
âIâm not tiredâ Alma said quietly. âLeave me aloneâ
Rosemary sighed, finishing brushing her hair. "I will be back for lunch." She said simply, standing up and leaving, only to run into Miss Hoopoe.
"I'm sorry I really don't have the time" She excused herself to the older woman, ho seemed to want to talk to her.
âRosemary, the girls are loosing itâ Niss Hoopoe said. âAnd I got news on Lizzieâ
"I'm heading vack to my students. What's with Lizzie? Oh and could you check on Gaby I really don't have time today."
âSheâs doing better, but her baby girl is struggling. The one that wasnât breathing when she was bornâ Miss Hoopoe reported. âIâll go see Gaby; but Iâve got to check where Marina is first. She ran off somewhereâ
"If you find Marina send her to me. She should be in class but Sigrid said she hadn't seen her today." Miss Bunting sighed, rubbing her forehead. "I'm going to tske the girls to the beach this afternoon if I'm lucky. It may help." She sighed. "And I hope Lizzie's baby gets better."
--------
As soon as Rosemary went Alma went after her to the door, checking if it was locked. She waited when she heard voices outside.
Miss Hoopoe nodded, sighing and going to find Marina.
She knocked on Marinaâs door, calling for her.
Rosemary hurried back to class. "Gilrs! What's going on?"
-----------
Marina was in bed, hiding. She didn't feel good. Wilma was sitting on the floor, playing with her new doll while Perla checked on her sister.
----------
Alma left the room when she realized she cpuld escape, careful not to be seen.
âWe finished readingâ Sigrid said âwe donât know what else to doâ
____
âMarina, why arenât you in class?â Miss Hoopoe asked sternly.
"You do independant recapping and studying for your exam." Miss Bunting said firmly. "I will take you all to the beach to practice in bird form this afternoon. Till then you will have to make due. So either work for the exam, do yeasterdays extra assignment if you haven't, or read chapter 104 and in the other text book. I will be back to cveck." She insisted, knoeing she had to check on Miss Avocet.
---------
"Because she's feeling ill" Perla explained. "I think she has a fever."
--------
Alma went into the kitchen, joyous to have access to it unhindred. She quickly stole a few fruits frommthe bowl, putting them in her pocket. She took a packet of biscuits in her arms too. Then, she went to the knife drawer.
The girls stifled groans and nodded, though they looked excited at the prospect of the beach.
ââ
Miss Hoopoe frowned, going clear to Marina. âIâll for real, or Ill like you want to get out of class?â She asked
"She has a fever" Perla repeated. "Don't be mean." She told the ymbryne.
--------
Miss Bunting didn't listen, hurrying off again.
"Esmeralda?"
----------
Satisfied with her loot, Alma started to creep back to her room.
âIâm not being meanâ Miss Hoopoe said, going to feel Marinaâs forehead and sighing. âYou are a little warmâ she agreed.
___
Miss Avocet was asleep, curled up on their bed under the blankets.
Miss Bunting sighed, deciding she could take the girls to the beach straight away if she was asleep. So she hurried back.
"Change of plans. We can go to the beach nwo"
The girls cheered, chattering amongst themselves as they put their school things away
"I don't feel good" Marins moaned.
-------
Miss Bunting smield, starting to lead them out of the walk in the warm spanish heat.
âSit up and let me look at youâ Miss Hoopoe sighed. âDid something happen? You were fine yesterdayâ
____
The girls talked happily as they went, all giddy and anxious to get to the beach.
Marina shook her head sitting up.
-------
Miss Bunting felt sweaty and faint by the time they got there, but ignored it.
"Alrigjt, I want us all to transform." Miss Buntign tried to go first, but instead she was overwhelmed by a sudden onset of dizzyness. She stumbldd, nearly fslling over.
âMiss, are you alright?â Francesca ran over to her.
___
Miss Hoopoe sighed. âAlright. Lie down Iâll bring you rea with honeyâ
Marina nodded, laying back down.
Wilma looked up. "Granny! I can go eith you?" She asked.

Miss Bunting collaosed then, trying to catch herself on Franscesca.
Miss Hoopoe tucked the blanket back around her and nodded, picking Wilma up. âCome on. Letâs get some tea for Marina.
___
âMiss bunting needs help!â Marina shouted to the other girls.
The other girls came running over, Sigrid soon taking charge. What little medical knowledge she had was more than the other girls.
"Miss, can you hear me?" She shook her shoulder. "Does anyone have water?"
-------
"Yay! Helo Marina." Wilma cgeered, happy to be doing something with Miss Hoopoe.
âI brought a water bottle!â Francesca said, handing it over quickly.
Miss Bunting blinked. âSigrid?â She mumbled. âWhat happened?â
_____
Miss Hoopoe smiled a little and nodded, setting Marina down as they reached the kitchen. She put the kettle on. âWhy donât you get some crackers for Marinaâ she instructed, wanting to give the little girl something to do.
Wilma nodded, opening the lower cabinet to take the package. "They're gone" She said. "Grandma the cookies aren't here."
--------
"You collapsed Miss. I think you should drink something." She said, handing her the water bottle. "Can you walk? Maybe you'd feel better to get out of the sun too."
Miss Hoopoe frowned. âTheyâve got to be there. I just bought a new packetâ she said, going to look in the cabinet.
____
Miss Bunting was disoriented and groggy but she nodded, taking the bottle and shakily drinking some water
Wilma shook her head, making her curly hair bounce.
--------
Sigrid nodded. "We need to get her moved to somewhere woth shade. I don't think she can walk all the way back right now."
Miss Hoopoe frowned, looking in the cabinet and seeing that Wilma was right. The cookies had disappeared.
____
âIâll helpâ Francesca volunteered. âThereâs some shade over thereâ she pointed.
Sigrid nodded. With the help of a few more pf the students they got Miss Bunting on her feet and moved. "Have some more water" Sigrid encouraged quietly.
---------
"Fruit" Wilma saidzn running over to the table. Someone had taken several fruots.
Miss bunting sipped the water slowly. âIâm sorry girlsâ she said. âI think the heat has gotten to meâ
____
Miss Hoopoe scowled, looking around and realising a loaf of bread was gone too.
"Maybe a bit. But you're not that hot." Sigrid pointed out. "Are you sure there is nothing else Miss?"
âNo, of course not, Iâm fineâ Miss Bunting lied quickly.
Sigrid sighed. "Well I think we should go home as soon as we can."
-------
"What are yiu doing?" Carlos asked.
âIâm fine now that Iâve got water and shade. You girls should practice your transformationsâ Miss Bunting said.
ââ-
âThereâs food missingâ Miss Hoopoe said. âThe cookies and a loaf of bread are missing as well as some fruitâ
Carlos nodded. "One of the Ymbrynes came and took it. I thought she had permission."

"Okay, but promise you will stay here and rest." Sigrid insisted as the pther girls went back to practice.
âWhich one?â Miss Hoopoe asked, though she had a feeling she knew.

âI willâ Miss bunting promised.
"The blue one. Peregrine?" He said.

Sigrid nodded, reluctantly joining the other students practising.
Miss Hoopoe frowned. âIâll go talk to herâ she said, suddenly remembering something and going to check the knife drawer, finding that one was missing.
____
Miss bunting sat in the shade, sipping her water and watching them.
Wilma was confused. "Granny?" She asked, wondering what was going on.
--------------
The girls practised. "Miss Bunting is acting weird" Sigrid told Francesca.
âWilma honey, go back to your mum, alright? Iâll be in soonâ she instructed, deciding she needed to go check on Miss peregrine.
____
Francesca nodded. âReally weird. All the ymbrynes areâ
Wilma looked upset, but Carlos took her hand. "Come on. Let's go Wilma."
--------
"I don't think they're doing well." Sigrid said. "You saw how Miss Bunting was running around, always coming and going from classes..."
Miss Hoopoe hurried off to Miss peregrineâs room, knocking loudly on the door.
____
Francesca nodded. âI feel like we should do somethingâ she said quietly. âTheyâre falling apartâ
"Come in" Miss Peregrine hurried to hide the bloody knife under her pillow, pulling the sleeve down over her wound. She was trying to keep it together but felt increasingly unhinged.
The food she hadn't eaten were already in her closet.
-------------
Sigrid nodded. "Miss Peregrine's children haven't seen their Ymbryne for a month. She stays locked up."
âAlma, thereâs a knife missing from the kitchen, you havenât seen it have you?â Miss Hoopoe asked her seriously.
____
Francesca nodded. âWhat do we do though?â She asked softly. âI Miss the old Miss bunting and Miss avocet. They arenât the same anymore⊠but I donât know how to help!â
"Of course not" she shook her head, hiding her arm. Her gaze quickly darted over to the pillow.

"I don't know." Sigrid sighed. "Maybe we can ask them?"
âAlma, are you lying to me?â Miss Hoopoe asked seriously, her face pinched into a frown.
___
Francesca nodded. âWe should. Maybe Miss bunting will tell us how we can helpâ
Miss Peregrine nodded. She couldn't say it, so she just moved the pillow for Miss Hoopoe to say. She didn't know why but she almost wanted to be caught.
---------
Sigrid agreed.
Miss Hoopoe scowled. âWhy?â She asked. âWhy would you do this alma?â She asked, gingerly taking the knife.
____
âWe should practiceâ Francesca said after a moment.
Sigrid sighed and nodded, transforming.
