Despite Shen Yuan's initial shock and horror at being transported into his least favorite novel, he is thankful to have at least been given the role of some background character that didn't appear, nor, was even mentioned in the original novel.

Shen Yuan unexpectedly finds himself becoming good friends with the head disciple, Gongyi Xiao. Along with two of the protagonist's future wives, the twins Qin Wanyue and Qin Wanrong.
Shen Yuan knows it's probably not the best idea to get close with even one of Luo Binghe's wives, let alone two of them. However, it wasn't like Shen Yuan was the one to approach them first.
He and Gongyi Xiao had been doing a friend spar, when they were suddenly greeted by the two sisters. After that, the two started hanging around them all the time.
Shen Yuan found himself growing attached to the two younger girls, despite his initial hesitation. He liken them to curious younger sisters. Qin Wanrong especially, who often followed Shen Yuan around like a little duckling following its mother.
The four of them spent a lot of time together. Sometimes practicing their cultivation together. Sometimes just sitting around and gossiping (GYX would scold them for that).
However, their most frequent topic of discussion was that of soulmates.

The specific flower species and even the color and shade of the flower's petals, all represent some aspect of one's soulmate. Whether that be physical appearance, or unique personality.
Soulmates had existed in Shen Yuan's precious world, but they were such a rare thing to come across that most people didn't pay much attention to it. Which was good for Shen Yuan as he was one of the few people born with a soulmate seed.
It's one of the many things that made Luo Binghe's character so interesting to Shen Yuan. The protagonist was also someone born with no soulmate seed, thus had no soulmate.
Yet in this life, Shen Yuan found his new body DID have a Soulmate Seed. A small oval shaped mark right on his right upper arm. Though Shen Yuan didn't care too much about it.
Why waste time thinking about a soulmate that will just get stolen by the protagonist?

It was a scent. Faint, but still very present.
It was floral and earthy with a light sweetness and just a hint of spice.

Shen Yuan does not even notice when his feet begin to move. He faintly heard the junior disciples calling out to him, but they sounded so far away. Shen Yuan's senses were entirely fixated on following the scent.
The scent grew stronger and stronger as Shen Yuan got closer.
Until suddenly, he slam face first into something hard and solid.
Shen Yuan cursed as the impact snapped him back to the present. He looked up, only to freeze immediately.
Standing in front of him was none other than the protagonist of pidw, Luo Binghe.

Shen Yuan stared with bulging, wide eyes.
His tiny, black soul seed mark gad 'bloomed' into the beautiful image of two fully bloomed camellias resting two thin branches surrounded by dark green leaves. Their petals were a deep crimson red that reminded Shen Yuan of the protagonist's eyes once his demonic powers were unsealed.
Shen Yuan damn near fainted on the spot as the realization hit him like an oncoming truck.
No way were he and Luo Binghe were soulmates!!!
