I feel like the reason lesbians are drawn to Hozier’s music is the fact that it’s about loving and worshipping women. You don’t get the sensual feeling of affection for women in other songs about women. If a lesbian wants to listen to a song about women sung by a man (which is what’s out there the most), all they’ll be able to listen to, most of the time, is the degradation of the people they love. Hozier doesn’t do that. Even in sexual contexts, it’s worship for his partner. And with lesbians feeling predatory already, feeling uneasy, having this type of music to sing about women is comforting.
