I MUST tell everyone how much I ADORE this trilogy

I found it when I was in middle school, it caught my eye because the cover looked so cool, then I realized after reading it was the second part of a three-part series lol so I read the rest of them!!! It's so fun!!!

I might rewatch the anime. I didn't like it as much, but it was so exciting to see when it came out. At the time I was hoping it'd get turned into a show or a movie! I didn't expect an anime of all things. I think that's why it's been on my mind so much, the anime released last year in July. It's like waking up from hibernation.

I made this doodle cause I needed to draw them so badly I might've exploded into a million bits if I didn't and damn Deryn looks awful but you go girl!!! love you!!! (Deryn/Dylan is the one in white) and I don't know how to feel about Alek (the one in blue)

sosososo like. I suck at explanations but: These are characters from a book trilogy (Leviathan, Behemoth, and Goliath) by Scott Westerfeld and it's an alternate version of the first world war, like, what if things went differently. The allied powers (Britan, France, Russia) are called Darwinists, they make these fabricated beasts like the Leviathan for example (big living whale airship that's like. an ecosystem. idfk) and then there's the central powers (Germany, Austria-hungary, and the Ottoman Empire) who are called Clankers, they build these impressive machines/tanks... I don't know how to describe them, but they're SO cool. The two main characters are Deryn and Aleksander. Deryn is a girl posing as a boy in the British air service (or something along the lines of that) and then Alek is the son of the late archduke Franz Ferdinand, and he's on the run after the news of his father's assasination. yeah

haha this piece end up so dramatic it was not my goal but anyway.

Inspired by the Stromboli volcano scene in Vango, when reading it I felt it would work perfectly with Deryn/Dylan in some AU where the Leviathan would pass over the Aeolian Islands.

Something like this would be so colossally helpful. I'm sick and tired of trying to research specific clothing from any given culture and being met with either racist stereotypical costumes worn by yt people or ai generated garbage nonsense, and trying to be hyper specific with searches yields fuck all. Like I generally just cannot trust the legitimacy of most search results at this point. It's extremely frustrating. If there are good resources for this then they're buried deep under all the other bullshit, and idk where to start looking.
