Alexander Labas - Metro (1935)
"Now I've shot so many Nazis, Daddy will have to buy me a sable coat." (From his Wikipedia article).
Neil Munro "Bunny" Roger
June 9, 1911-April 27, 1997.
Bunny Roger killed a bunch of Nazis and then invented Capri pants.
He was expelled from Oxford for his indiscrete gayness (discrete gayness being perfectly fine at Oxford and part of the curriculum until...today probably, at least like 1992?). Then, having been sent down to London, he started his own fashion business, and his first client was Vivien Leigh.
Bunny served in WWII, killing fascists in North Africa and Italy, and often wearing a mauve scarf in the field. Roger claimed that he had gone into a battle brandishing a rolled-up copy of VOGUE and commanding: "When in doubt, powder heavily!"
Roger was known in high society for his themed soirées; Diamond, Amethyst, and Flame Balls were held to celebrate his 60th, 70th, and 80th birthdays. He wore a curious plum colored catsuit with a feathered headdress at his 70th birthday ball in 1981. At his 80th, he made his entrance in a catsuit of scarlet sequins with a cape of orange organza, greeting his guests from behind a wall of fire. His parties were covered by the newspapers, including a New Year's Eve Fetish Ball where the proper upper class mixed with young guests in rubber S/M gear.
From an obituary: "Beneath his mauve mannerisms, Bunny was stalwart, frank, dependable and undeceived; to onlookers a passing peacock, to intimates, a life enhancer and exemplary friend."
From another obituary:
He served valiantly in every way.
happy 125th birthday to bunny roger

I "lost" an album. Back in 2014/2015, when it wasn't the glaring AI pit of despair, Spotify recommended a Chinese artist to me. Nothing was in English - not his name, not the songs, not the album titles. no.thing. I loved his stuff - each album had different sounds and styles, and I think (?) he also spoke some Korean, which is why Spotify suggested him to me. My favorite album had him on a heavily stylized cover wearing a steampunk(ish) hat and there were cherry blossoms?
And then when I deleted my Spotify, years later, I didn't think to save any of my playlists/ favorites.
I've tried googling the album cover and any other descriptors I can think of and nope, nada, zilch. Which makes sense BECAUSE EVERYTHING WAS IN MANDARIN. AND I CANNOT SPEAK OR READ ONE WORD (ok, fine, "thank you". I can say "thank you". Zero helpfulness).
Anyways. He's gone. But I still think about him.
Y'ALL. I FOUND HIM. Khalil Fong "Dangerous World" 😭😭😭

-12/10 for shingles. Your skin: 1. so sensitive that air hurts/ 2. randomly stabs you down to the bone every 5-7 minutes.

I haven't done one of these* in a while, so let's go.
💛 three cheers for medicine and painkillers
💛 that means I got to spend half of today on embroidery and movies (watched Dune for the first time! Beautiful cinematography - holy cow, the SCOPE of it - made complex politics in space understandable - all around a good time) (now I'm on to Lord of the Rings, which I'm pretty sure I haven't watched since it came out IN 2001[!])
💛 I found a frame for my Austin Book Festival poster (signed by the photographer 😌)
💛 a lapful of warm cat
💛 I took tiberias to the vet on Friday to get his claws clipped (because I forgot due to migraine last week), and they did it for me for free
💛 I finished The House of Open Wounds (Adrian Tchaikovsky) yesterday and enjoyed it so much (more than Book 1 City of Last Chances). It wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea - episodic and character driven about the people running a hospital tent in a fantasy WWI. Full of alchemy, tiny gods, demons, necromancy, and the inexorable machine of war.
💛 the night chorus of frogs
💛 On the Nature of Daylight - Max Richter
trying to explain to people that the cursed amulet and i have genuinely bonded. we are PALS now. "the fact you don't want to take it off is proof it's controlling you" i want to keep wearing it bc im enjoying hanging out with my buddy. not everything is nefarious. we're doing girl time

A hand-sized portion of skin over my ribcage turned sensitive in the middle of work on Thursday. Only to spread to the corresponding section of skin on my back on Friday. And now the middle of my right arm today. It hurts something fierce (burn-y/ tingling), and I do not know what to do.
Do you just show up at Urgent Care like, "Hey air/clothing/existence are causing pain in my skin" ?? I don't have a fever or a rash, so it's probably not shingles (???) But I am tired and drained, and if I feel this way on Monday, I am not going to work.
So weird and it hurts much more than it sounds like it should. What are my nerves doing?!?!
Stunning shot
