“Useless is the best word I can think of.” Wes admitted, chuckling softly at her explanation. “It’s still our job to look out for them, no matter how hard it is sometimes.”

“You would think so, but more people are concerned about the daily lives of celebrities rather than the real threats to society.”

“You know what, I don’t even know why I try.”

“You’re young, with a bright future, and you care, which is more than I can say for most of the members.”

“Gladly.” Maria offered, shaking her head at her sister as she moved to leave. “Focusing only on the facts isn’t going to help you when everything goes to shit, Ximena.”

“For the greater good.” he agreed. “You know, I can’t think of a better person to oversee it, Ximena.”

“I’m glad you’ve found a purpose.” Wes admitted. “It reassures me that Augustine, and it’s work, will outlive me when I’m gone.”

“I believe in magic. I believe in justice. And I believe that you are insane.”

“But they aren’t.”

“You’d still be a brilliant young woman.” Wes offered. “You just wouldn’t be making the most out of your potential. It’d be a huge loss to the scientific community.”

“Facts and statistics aren’t everything, Ximena.”

“You’re finding your place in the world, and that’s a good place to start.”

“Whatever.” Maria replied with an eye roll. “And to think I was going to tell you all about my time in Paris.”

“And what’s the difference, Ximena?”

“I just don’t think that science can give you all the answers”
