I’m Bad, Untouchable

now, in regards to daredevil: born again and reading between the lines and subtext, specifically regarding karen's reasons for running away and "abandoning" matt.

in born again, we don't get to see karen's grief. we don't get her point of view, so it's easy to demonize her or blame her (or god forbid some people said they hate her)... but guys, we know karen page. we know what she's been through (death of her brother, pushed away by her father- the one person going through the same grief as her, who should be pulling her closer so they can share their sorrow and take care of each other- and told that he doesn't want her around him).

fast forward to foggy's death and matt. i haven't been able to bring myself to rewatch it yet, but what i remember is her saying that matt pushed her away in the immediate aftermath, and eventually, when he decided he needed her, she couldn't be there for him. read the subtext: she lost someone she loved like a brother, and the one person who shared her grief, who should have clung to her for his own sake and hers, instead pushed her away. no wonder she closed herself off and ran away.

just because they don't "show" that onscreen, doesn't mean we can't read between the lines and empathize with how it must have felt for her. are we so fickle that we would forget everything we know she's gone through, and refuse to take her past trauma into consideration when we judge her actions? just because we didn't see it represented on screen?

am i mad that karen moved to the west coast and isn't taking matt's calls? you bet your ass! (karedevil forever!) do i blame her for it? not if matt pushed her away! do I want matt and her to get their heads out of their asses and f*ck nasty? what do you think? 😇😈
