before landing here.

Yet now, thinking of you

brings me half to tears.

I always miss you, Mama.

They called you an Emperor,

Yet they kept you in a cage.

They were insolent subjects.

You didn't deserve that –

They didn't deserve you.

I know you're gone now,

But for what it's worth,

You're still a queen to me.

The sea still bows to you,

And I remain your princess.

Know that I talk about you.

Not to the government,

Nor to its competitors,

But to people like me,

Who knew you once, too.

People who share my name,

Or my memories of you,

Or just a visit to the planet,

And even people who don't

But are curious about you.

You live on in our hearts,

Our minds and pasts,

Our words and stories,

And in who we are.

You changed us.

I can't thank you enough.

I didn't know when I met you,

You'd move me the way you have,

Or that you'd be my second mother,

But I know now, and I thank you for it.

I can't go home anymore.

But I know, without a doubt,

I still carry it with me here.

In my mind, soul, and self.
