"H-hey, it’s okay… I’m fine. Please calm down, Kamui-kun…"
Though he was happy that he could elicit this amount of concern from his friend, he also felt guilty. How much schoolwork was Kamui missing to see him…?
"I was original stationed on my own; it would’ve been the same regardless of whether you were there or not. No one could’ve seen this coming. I hate to admit it, but the attacker planned it pretty well…"
He could only smile sheepishly at the half-hearted glare shot his way.
"…Sorry. You’re right, I should’ve been more careful."
"But y’know, I really appreciate you coming all the way to see me. I’ll make it up to you sometime, okay?"
It was Tasuku’s own way of saying “Thank you for caring.”
A grimace at the admission; was Tasuku always doomed to wind up in such peril? The concept rubbed Kamui the wrong way. Even if he'd been there, he'd have made no difference? No... it'd have been worse, because he himself would have failed Tasuku whilst being there.
His lips twisted themselves, stuck together in dismay, chewing on words that he had no idea how to utter. What was there to say? Anything? Anything that would turn sour or too forceful?
Scanning that smile on Tasuku's face, he couldn't help but feel his heart sink. Even after what had transpired, Tasuku was still trying to get Kamui to calm down. Wasn't it expected that he'd react so poorly? No... that wasn't it. There was something else--
"You can make it up by not letting this happen again". A sulky murmur whilst diverting his eyes elsewhere, cheeks inflated childishly with frustration. In the end, he hadn't done anything. Inaction had led to this, irrespective to what Tasuku claimed.
"I don't want to hear you got hurt and worry about losing you again... I'm not losing a friend like you..."
