This is a prime example of media illiteracy. I received a similar reaction from a waiter when I was reading this graphic novel in a pub.
Maus was created by a Jewish graphic novelist whose parents survived the holocaust, it is one of the greatest graphic novels to ever exist in human history: a heart-wrenching story about a holocaust survivor’s journey, as well as a nuanced documentary of a father-and-son relationship, which sheds light on the many facets of generational trauma. Yes, the cover is quite shocking, but it’s also relevant to the story.
Apart from “performative activism” (as suggested in another user’s comment), media saturation should be blamed as well; I’ve noticed people like to chase after the newly released media pieces, the newer the better. But it’s important (if not more) to know what came before, especially because the classics have passed the test of time, the new ones might not. If you have limited amount of time, read the classics first, then whatever’s on the chart right now, so that this will not happen again.

Love the scared face.
Damn I survived an academic year. Turned out that I was busier at school than at my full-time job.

My personal statement and portfolio advice video
I've been planning this video for several months last year, and it's finally here! This is a short video offering my advice for preparing for your personal statement and portfolio when applying to UAL (or other art schools in the UK).
*Even though this is a short video, it literally took me a couple of months to finish filming and editing, since I'm dealing with a lot of real-life sh*t. I'll add proper subtitles to this video in the following days.

Screen printing portraits of history’s forgotten queen Margaret of Anjou with her beloved pet lion. I intend to use the juxtaposition of historical imagery and modern graffiti to present the rebellious spirit of the queen which transcends time. To know more about her, visit or read other books.
*I swear I probably lost 5000 calories making these prints.
The People’s Joker - this is how you make fan art
This is a delightful and heart-warming “parody” of DC’s Joker and Harley Quinn, not only is it a sleek yet well-written story about a trans woman’s life journey, but also a technically well-executed art piece. Here you can see an extremely creative blend of various animation styles with life action cinematography, animation styles which are so diverse (ranging from 2D to 3D stop motion), and so and non-conforming (which I personally consider the epitome of camp). If this film is considered a “fan art” piece, then its aesthetic execution is drastically different from the popular fan art style we have now.
This also reminds me of the Star Trek fan zines which were among the first fan art content to appear in human history; fans of Star Trek reinvented the original “homoerotic” relationship between Spock and Kirk by giving us one of the very first slash fictions (Grup #3), to express their dissatisfaction of the heteronormative rhetoric, which brings us back to the roots of fan art - to subvert the status quo even if we have a deep love for the source material, instead of just making a redundant version which resembles the original as closely as possible.

The reality of dating as a bi/pan woman is that you’ll bump into a straight guy, and this will happen:
Straight guy I went on first date with:
Tell me the story of how you discovered your bisexuality if it doesn’t bother you. I’m curious to know.
Me:
Well, it’s a boring story actually. I know I’m bi from the crushes I had throughout the years. I think regardless of sexual orientation, people themselves know what gender they are (or not) attracted to.
You know what, this actually sparked my curiosity too, how did you know you are straight? Unless you’ve been with a guy and didn’t like it, or else I wouldn’t completely rule that possibility out.
THIS. My lecturer said the same thing and her opinion is eye-opening – the validity of art is a messy discourse, since the tastes of different people are influenced by multiple factors such as one's socio-economic circumstance (a complex matter for another day) or unique personal experience, therefore it is futile to measure art with a singular metric, even if it seems objective.
At the end of the day, just make art.
Why did they put clothes on them?
Now these men look like two chefs.

This year's zodiac art – a fusion of digital and analogue art.
Here are the steps it took to make this printing:
Fun story: While carving the first layer, I accidentally ran the chisel into my left thumb, resulting in a one-inch-long wound (I'll spare you the photo, it was gross). Well, it wouldn't be the year of the snake without a bite ;)
I saw another student has written “Happy Chinese new year” on the library whiteboard, so I decided to chime in and draw a snake underneath.
