If I didn't support you, how did you turn out so well?
Adrian wasn't the most coordinated on the best of days, but even less so when he wasn't sober. It was the weekend, so after a few rounds of persistent begging, he'd actually managed to convince Eddie to unwind with him at The Alibi. They were already a few drinks down, idly gossiping about their friends, when Adrian noticed their glasses had run dry. So he dismissed himself, heading to the bar, waving politely at the man working there. But his tolerance wasn't as good as it used to be, more focused now on his relationship than his coping mechanisms, so he was unsteady on his feet. Adrian stumbled as a result, knocking into a man who was sat beside him, his nose wrinkling as the beer splashed upon his own shoes.
"Oh, fuck, I'm sorry. I'll buy you another, here. Sir, sir! I'll take three beers please." It was only when Adrian turned to face the man he'd bumped that his face lit up with realisation. They had a mutual friend. "Hey, I know you! You're that guy Rose dumped, right? Don't worry, it happens to the best of us."
Perhaps Lip could've let the situation lie after the apology, it'd seemed sincere enough, especially with the offer of a replacement drink. But what happened next threw dismissal out the window. Although he wouldn't have admitted it, Lip had genuinely caught feelings for Rose during their time together, and her following rejection had stung. He'd barely had time to process it before Lucas had started acting out, and considering how high strung his brother's behaviour had him lately, he was in no mood to be reminded of his failed relationship. "Sarcastic prick," he muttered, standing off the bar stool, fists already clenched. He didn't stop to contemplate the consequences, not even with Kev watching on, seeing only red. An outlet for his anger. He swung his hand in the direction of the blonde's face, clipping his jaw, hoping that he'd do enough damage to prove his point.
After another argument with Lucas, Lip had decided to dismiss himself from the Gallagher household and head to The Alibi, instead. It'd been a while since he'd drank, at least to this extent, and whilst the alcohol induced ranting was probably annoying Kev, he couldn't help himself. He was half leaned over the bar, venting his frustrations. "â He was up at three in the fuckin' morning. 'Said he went for a jog, but it turns out he was getting high with the Milkoviches. Last week he wouldn't get out of bed. He's driving us fuckin' nuts, we can't keep up with him. Every time you question it, he mumbles somethin' about Chloe, as if she's the problem. I don't know what to do with him, man. I mean he's actin' like... oh, fuck." But the realisation of the mirrored behaviour to Monica was soon cut short, someone interrupting Lip's train of thought by knocking him from behind. The drink he'd had in hand spilled into his lap, and the temper he'd barely been managing to suppress began to rise. "Hey, what the fuck?! Watch where you're fuckin' walkin!"

SHAMELESS 7.03, âHome Sweet Homeless Shelterâ
The Bear (2022-present) Ceres (S01E06)
Silence followed Fionaâs request for Carl to come down, and after Lip laughed, she gave one final warning. âIf you and your friends donât come down here right now, Carl, I will drag you down!â Sighing in defeat, she grabbed the grocery list off the fridge and sat herself down on one of the kitchen stools. âIf you wanna accuse Rose or Fez of leaving the door wide open, go right ahead. But Iâm gonna take it on faith they know how to use one.â She rubbed at her temples, chuckling. âYeah, if only we could afford one. What about the Milkoviches? Thereâs no way they shut doors after themselves.â
Lucas groaned as he awoke to the sound of his siblings yelling at one another, wishing it wasn't a regular occurrence. Considering he wasn't the one in the firing line this time, he could've stayed in bed, but his thirst won out. He wouldn't have been able to nod back off anyway with all the commotion, so he reluctantly stumbled from under his duvet, ignoring the giggling coming from behind Carl's bedroom door as he passed it.
"Hey, other people live here maybe?" He muttered, shoving Lip out of the way so he could reach the fridge. After retrieving their last carton of milk, Lucas slammed the door for emphasis, before joining the conversation. "Yeah, no. It's not Mickey, the house rumbles when he shuts that thing. I guess it could've been Mandy, since Lip's fucking her. Or one of the other fifteen girls he's currently using." Normally he wouldn't have cared, but Mandy was one of his best friends, and she was clearly falling for Lip. It'd only end in tears. "And go easy on Carl. He was trying to make an iced latte to impress Hanna."
"'The fuck, Luke?" Lip grumbled, resisting the urge to shove his brother right back. He threw a hand up in defeat instead, watching as Lucas polished off the remainder of the carton he'd retrieved from the fridge. "That milk was for breakfast. Other people live here, maybe?" Lip had planned to go straight to Raven's garage today to earn some extra money, but he'd now have to stop by the grocery store first. Sighing in defeat, he seated himself next to Fiona, casting an annoyed expression her way. "What's your problem, man? You've been off since we got here. And y'know â I'm not the only one in this room fuckin' a Milkovich, but at least when I do it, I'm single. Have you even spoken to Chloe since you started suckin' cock?"
Getting into an argument with Lucas was the exact opposite of what Lip had wanted, but he wouldn't sit by and take shit from his siblings when they were being hypocritical. Lucas had also been irritable for weeks, and the tension between them had only thickened. He couldn't continue to ignore it. "Y'know what, no. I won't go easy on Carl, because he's wastin' our money makin' caffeinated bullshit for a woman who's pregnant."

How much do you bench? Three-fifteen. Good. So... my refrigerator is broken or something, and it just so happens my neighbor from a few blocks away put a perfectly good one curbside. I'm assuming it works.
Veronica Mars | 4.01, "Spring Break Forever"
Do you love me? Hell no, I actually think Iâm starting to fucking hate you.Â
Fiona side-eyed him. âThere someone else in our family tree thatâs gay, âcause I canât trace that gene back to anywhere? At least thereâs no issues yet, canât take any more of those right now.â Lip had a point though, and it had always weighed on Fionaâs mind. Whenever her siblings got drunk, or disappeared for longer than a night, she worried if something worse than a little partying was going on. Ian was acting strange lately, too. But she had to have faith in her kids, and in herself, to notice if that were the case. She sighed, giving her brother a roll of her eyes, but she knew she wouldnât change his mind on that one. She may not agree this time, but despite what he said, she trusted Lip to do the right thing when it came down to it. Hell, she'd probably join him. âAlright, Robin Hood,â Fiona snorted at the name. âJust donât go pickinâ up a bow and arrow on these selfless missions, got it?â But she agreed. Sheâd do anything if her siblings happened to go hungry again, but she didnât want to encourage Lip to think about that yet either. All she could do was hope it wouldnât come to that.
âI know, right?â Fionaâs eyes widened in agreement as she moved over, making room for him to join her. âMakes me feel like weâre even more out of our depth, yâknow? I get weâre new, but.. god. These people seem seriously fucked up, and itâs not even their fault.â She sighed. âI guess Iâm just a little worried about bringinâ you guys here now. But.. most of them are nice. Guess they canât help their baggage, and.. whatever the other bullshit is. I agree though, Carl is on total lockdown âtil weâve sussed things out. Feel like it wouldnât take him long to find a gun again.â
Fiona sighed immediately, having expected his response, but still needing to get her point across despite it. She needed him to understand, even if they wouldnât agree. âObviously not, and you know thatâs not what I meant. But you should still be a student, Lip! You gottaâ finish, if you can. The war took that opportunity away from all of you, and youâve got the chance to take that back. So, take it back!â Fiona put the basket down, crossing her arms. She had to present steadfast on this. âNormal for me. Doesnât mean you gotta follow in my footsteps. I wanted to finish, but I couldnât! Lip,â she sighed. She was exhausted, but thatâs why she gave those parts of her life up â so they could experience it instead. âYouâve got the opportunity, and Iâve got it handled for now. If the time comes where we need more hands on deck, then weâll get to that. But right now, we can figure this out while the rest of this place figures itself out. We can get the squirrel fund back up ân runninâ, get you guys workinâ til school starts up, maybe even during. Youâre goinâ.â
âProbability suggests so. Who knows, Fiona? Maybe Grandma Gallagher was in the closet her entire life. Luckily for us, weâll never know.â Not that Lip was one to talk, heâd never turned down advances from gay men before. A blowjob was a blowjob. At the end of the day, the end result remained the same. At Fionaâs next reply, he raised a hand up in self defence, showing that heâd be on his best behaviour. Until he deemed it necessary not to be. His familyâs health and wellbeing was his number one priority, and whilst the rebels had been hospitable enough to allow them to reside here, Lip didnât give a fuck about them or their rules. The second someone complained they were hungry, heâd take matters into his own hands. After all, Panemâs wealth was far from evenly distributed, even now. Hell, even Alexandriaâs founding family had a manor the size of their streetâs houses put together. âWhatever you say.â
Lip started working on his washing after Fiona had allowed the space, separating his clothes from Ianâs. Not that it mattered, he could guarantee his brother would have stolen a t-shirt by the end of the week. âGuess not, even if they did start this whole âuprisingâ bullshit. Theyâve been through some pretty heavy stuff, and thatâs coming from a Gallagher.â Theyâd had it rough, growing up poor in a Career district, but it was nothing compared to the horror stories heâd heard about the rebels. Even Lip could admit that. âYeah, the last thing we need is Carl hearing about how they got forced to chop off each otherâs limbs and whatever else. Shitâs messed up. Debbie too, one bad conversation âround here and sheâs scarred for life. We just need to keep an eye on âem.â
He paused to consider her side of the argument, genuinely debating whether or not itâd be a good idea. To him, it seemed like a waste of time. But there wasnât much else to do in Alexandria, especially considering nothing had been set up yet. Perhaps they could come to a compromise. Either that, or theyâd spend the rest of their time here arguing, and Lip didnât want that either. âDo you even know how they run the education system here? Is it gonnaâ be Career centred, or actual useful information that I can use in my line of work? If itâs the latter, Iâll go. But Iâm not doing fuckinâ seven-hour days. Iâll spend four hours at most, and spend the rest of my time working and earning. No homework bullshit, no extra credit. Final offer.â
Fi sighed, though she knew she couldnât deny it even if he was joking. âI know we got the asshole Gallagher genes too, but letâs make sure thatâs all we get.â She rolled her eyes, even though she couldnât deny it had helped them survive more than once. And as much as she wanted to murder Frank sometimes, she couldnât imagine life without him. âHereâs hopinâ. I don't need any more mouths to feed.â Grabbing a basket of laundry, she raised an eyebrow at him. Unless someone had wronged them, theft was off the table now. It had to be. âBut wouldnât you hate yourself, knowinâ you did? Just give it some time, little brother. Weâll be alright.â Fiona sounded confident enough, but she always did. Learning to put on a brave face, even if she was anything but, was key to raising five kids.
âFuck you,â Fiona laughed too, throwing some clean socks at him. âYou gonnaâ help me out foldinâ your underwear over here, or are you just gonnaâ sit on your high horse and bitch?â She sighed again, shrugging a little as she continued to fold. âYeah, I tried to. Guess not hard enough, huh? But are you sure? Pretty nice out there when everythinâs quiet. Run into some interestin' people, too. Most weird as hell. Did you know, apparently some of âem canât sleep? Like.. at all? And I thought we were crazy.â
âYou are a kid, Lip,â she gave him a pointed look before continuing on, knowing heâd be shitty with her for that. âNot a child, obviously, but a kid that still needs to finish school just like every other normal kid. It may seem fuckinâ crazy right now, but itâll be worth it. Eventually.â Dumping Liamâs toys into the laundry basket sheâd just emptied, she stopped for a moment, making sure he was listening. âYou know this isnât about you beinâ too smart, right? Everyone knows you are. Itâs about beinâ normal. About finishinâ something you started. You can, so you should. Show the others how itâs done.â
Lip shrugged. âWell, Ianâs got the gay gene, but thereâs still a lottaâ shit we could get. Monica and Frank are like a fuckinâ Russian roulette of issues, so weâre bound to end up with some kindaâ problem,â Lip joked, although he did occasionally worry about it. Sure, heâd been raised by Fiona, but biology was out of her control. âWould I hate myself? Jesus, Fiona. No, I wouldnât. Weâve been doinâ it all our lives, and I feel just fine about myself. Like a self-dependent reverse Robin Hood, Iâm givinâ back to the poor, and weâre the poor. Itâs only fair.â Still, despite his views, he nodded. Heâd give Fiona some slack and trust on this one, and see how it played out here â it was the smarter move, rather than going right in and attacking a bunch of clearly dangerous rebels. âIf you say so. But first hungry stomach and Iâm robbinâ that grocery store.â
As much as he wanted to continue on his high horse, he knew the laundry needed doing, and they all pitched in. Thatâs how the Gallagher household worked. So, standing up, Lip picked up the socks Fiona threw at him along with his other clothes. Making a pile of his own, he picked up his striped shirt and started folding. âIâm sure. But fuck, thatâs messed up. Like insomnia on crack. People around here have some serious drama, itâs best we keep to ourselves. Especially Carl, god knows whatâs gonnaâ happen to him if he meets some nutcase. It was bad enough when he had his microwave phase.â
âIâm not a fuckinâ kid, Fiona!â The word irritated him beyond belief, especially considering how quickly heâd been forced to mature. Even if Fiona clarified the meaning, it still pissed him off. He was just as grown as she was, the two of them ran this household, not just her. At least in his eyes. He needed a job, he needed to bring money into the Gallagher family, not go to school without pay. âItâs normal to go out and get a fuckinâ job to put some food on the table. You didnât finish, âcause you were lookinâ after everyone. Surely youâre tired of doinâ that shit all by yourself?â He shook his head in disbelief. âIâm not goinâ.â
âNo, itâs what Frankâs good at,â she gave him a pointed look. âAnd hopefully heâs not cominâ around here any time soon.â She was well aware all of them had broken the rules at some point, but this whole situation felt like an opportunity for a fresh start, and Fiona was trying to take it. âIf we can move the Gallaghers up the food chain with honest work, then thatâs what weâll do. Think of it like a second chance. Letâs try and not make the neighbours hate us, deal?â She snorted at his next comment, finishing off her coffee. âSomethinâs right. Just make sure you check whatâs actually in whatever they give you, yeah?â
âYeah⌠surprised itâs not our bunch for once.â Fiona tried to smile at that, but her expression was troubled. She sighed. ââMakes you feel any better, I canât sleep much either. Nearly baked muffins the other night, I swear I almost lost my damn mind. Sure you donât wanna join me for some runs? Iâm tryinâ to convince Ian to come with, but I guess heâs got a lottaâ sleep to catch up on, too.â He seemed particularly exhausted lately, and was rarely home, but Fiona had faith either she or Lip would find out whatever was bothering him eventually.
She smiled at her younger brother as she moved to clean up, genuinely appreciating his offer. âI will. But I donât need it, really. As soon as I get a job, we can start the squirrel fund again, and if you guys have any extra cash lyinâ around on breaks, you can pitch in. Weâll pace ourselves, do it right this time. But your main priority right now should be gettinâ back to school, not workinâ.â She talked over her shoulder, hands now full with Liamâs toys. âSome lady told me theyâre startinâ one up again soon, and youâre all goinâ. If you can find a part time job around that, then we can talk.â
âThen I learned from the best,â Lip pointed out with a nod of his head, showing he was joking through his smile. He hated having any relation to his father, but he was good at scamming, he couldnât deny that either. âHe wonât. âProbably dead in some District dump somewhere.â Surely there was no way heâd make it to Alexandria on his own, in his state, despite being a human form of a cockroach. âThey arenât gonnaâ hate us if they donât know theyâre beinâ scammed. Honest work wonât work around here, nobody has money.â And by that logic, nobody would be rich enough to scam off of anyway, but Lip understood that it was dog eat dog around here. âObviously.â
âMuffins? âShould have. Probably would have been hard as rocks, but at least Carl would have had somethinâ new to play with.â He laughed, unable to picture Fiona as a domestic goddess. Sure, she could cook, but usually it involved an oven and frozen chicken nuggets. âNah, thatâs usually yours and Ianâs thing. Drag his lazy ass out of bed and go with him instead.â Lip was increasingly worried about his brother, but it wasnât something he wanted to discuss. Not yet.Â
He paused, then, frowning at what Fiona had to say. âSchool? You fuckinâ kiddinâ me?â After everything that had happened, the idea seemed ridiculous to him. âNah, no way. Iâm already smart enough, and itâs ten times the hours of scamminâ for no pay. I think Iâm good helpinâ you and the kids out literally any other way.â

â lip or suze
send me a â with two names and iâll tell you whom my muse would save.
"Lip's a sound guy, we get on alrigh'. But Suze... she's done a lot for me. She let me say goodbye to Harry. I have to choose her."
âWho knows though, I could make it work, right? I donât mind being on top,â she shrugged, trying to keep a straight face. She wasnât lying of course, but wanted to see how far she could take jokes like that with him. As he replied, she narrowed her eyes at him a little in thought. Lip, in an approach that was different to Fionaâs, was clearly protective of his family, too. She couldnât help but find the trait incredibly attractive. âHow humble of you. Opportunities as in.. more renovation? Wouldnât your Stephen Hawking brain get more coin?â
Rolling her eyes, she sat back. âWell, sleepâs⌠a little hard to come by for me, so I went for a run, and came here for some tea. I ran into Fi out there once. Guess weâve started our own little breakfast club. Was starting to think you guys didnât even exist.â
Rose appeared to be testing the boundaries, and Lip was more than happy to oblige by showing her that he had none, even if his sister did. If Rose found him attractive, he wasnât going to deny himself the pleasure of flirting with her because of who sheâd happened to befriend first. âOr you could make it work with me, save yourself the effort. But just so weâre clear, I still wouldnât mind you being on top.â
âIt would, but thatâs more long term. If you wannaâ start off anywhere with a decent pay, you need degrees and shit. Or a âI was a Rebel, so I can choose whatever career I want without the workâ free pass.â He figured it was fair enough, after the crap theyâd had to endure, but it put him at a disadvantage. He had to work twice as hard to get where these student nurses and lab technicians were now. Heâd figure something out, though, and cheat his way in. No point reeducating himself on topics heâd taught himself years ago. âBreakfast club, huh? No wonder it always smells like burned bacon every morninâ. Maybe if you hung out with Fiona at a normal hour, weâd have met before now.â
