Jessica Drenk is able to compose nature-like objects out of everyday, manufactured material. Implements is series of sculptures made entirely out of anywhere between 1,200-4,000 pencils. After being glued together Jessica applies a belt sander among other power tools before finishing each piece by hand. Her interests in archaeology, paleontology, biology, botany, and geology are highlighted in her sculptures. 

Whilst searching through my family archives, I stumbled across my great aunt Anita’s rather beautiful burial instructions.

“This project offers an atypical approach to viewing natural science. The photo series of Paris’ Muséum d’Histoire Naturelle’s collections of vertebrates presents these skeletons as sculptures and forces us to reconsider the boundaries between artistic and scientific objects.”
