Missed you, Beloved.
A/N: This is a quick writing exercise and this story is part of the upcoming series i might make! Weâre just focusing on Timeâs era, no creative title </3
part 2 is in wipâŚ
The silence surrounding the Royalâs Library brought comfort and enough focus for the material on the table. Your research has been going well, although you miss a few winks of rest - studying new medicines and discovering a bunch of herbs deep within the forests wasnât something you could easily refuse.
The Queen of Hyrule supported your research for years, it was an opportunity you couldnât take for granted - you were grateful for working under the Royal Family, especially for Queen Zelda.
You reminisce the days before you were working under the Royal Family as a researcher - you were just a normal hylian who just ventures off to the woods without a second glance, a reckless one at that. That one impulsive girl who used to ran havoc when Ingo, the sycophant, was in charge.
In Castle Town, when you were a kid, busy gazing upon the crystal water by the fountain was also the moment youâve met Link - your husband. It wasnât exactly a pleasant meeting, you dreadfully remembered slipping down to the water after catching a glimpse of the young boy around your age - face flat. Malon had to help you back up, while also giggling right in-front of your face sulk in water.
In the present, you uphold that âunforgettable embarrassingâ golden memory into your heart.
Youâve been getting letters from Malon - The owner of Lon Lon Ranch and your sister - about her business and how its faring, youâve sometimes visited to help around the place as a way to remember the good old days. Itâs also been a way to distract yourself from the growing sense of concern for Linkâs safety.
Perhaps youâve been a lot more stress from the amount of paperworks given to you - the ranch was a sanctuary away from all the workload handed to you. A thought lingers if you can manage a small quiet life with Link, maybe establishing a house somewhere near the woods?
Speaking of your husband, youâve patiently waited for months after his departure towards a portal he had saw - and the alarming amount of monsters coming through that would soon threaten Hyrule. The forest youâve been checking to see the paths you used to take were safe, it wasnât - it was swarmed with a bunch of them from what youâve gathered, some you werenât familiar with. It hasnât made any advances towards the castle, Zelda was aware of this predicament.
Gathering your things to head out of the library, taking a brief moment to collect your thoughts - reading the written works on the papers, and stuffing all of the materials inside your bag. Youâre not bothered to arranged it neatly inside, you made sure to bid farewell to the knights guarding outside the library.
You always have a letter left to one of them, delivering it for the Queen to be updated about your progress.
Castle Town was lively as ever; bustling with children running around the place, laughter filled the atmosphere, and cuccos flocking around as ever. You went to the nearby stables that was keeping your horse occupied and taken care of while you worked for hours inside the castle.
A trip to your sisterâs ranch wasnât too far, the horse saves you enough time before the sun goes down. The aroma around the farm was pleasant, it is the only place you could ever call home. Guiding the horse back to its respective stable, a cheerful voice made you shift your gaze.
âThere she is!â Malon excitedly rushes towards you, arms all open leading up to crushing you into a tight hug. Her cheek was brushing against yours, the sudden embrace of your sister only made you chuckle.
Malon pulls away, her hands remain on your shoulder. âYouâve been at that castle for weeks!â squinting her eyes, observing your face momentarily, her hands that was briefly on your shoulder - it was now squishing your face.
âYou havenât been restinâ too!â
âMalon, Malon! I swear- Iâm perfectly fine.â You hurriedly reassured her. Holding her wrists to stop squishing your cheeks, the scoldings only made you smile. âYou donât hafta worry about me.â
Malon returned a smile. âI know.â she says, her hands rests against her hips. âItâs good tâsee you again. Father jusâ went out doinâ deliveries, but heâd be happy tâsee ya.â
âOh? When heâll be back?â
âSoon. For now,â She nudges your elbow lightly, gingerly pointing with her thumb to the direction of the field. âHelp me out âere gatherinâ cuccos and liftinâ flour.â
âYou donât have to ask me.â Playfully rolling your eyes, nudging her elbow back.
Malon paused for a moment, gently wrapping her hand around yours. âAny updates from Link?â Quirking up a brow, with a reassuring smile.
âWell - he told me about meeting new faces, and I quote, a group of capable young boys.â You responded, leading both of you and your sister outside of the barn.
Malon hummed in acknowledgment. âSounds like âem ân he ainât alone, huh? Glad yer âere for tânight, how long are yaâ stayinâ?â
âA week.â Leaning your head towards her shoulder. âYouâre gonna be put up with me for awhile, Mal.â
You only got a huff in faux annoyance from her. Momentarily, her free hand went up to pinch your cheek - an old habit from her.
âââ
You silently watched from the window as the sun slowly goes down - you admired the sunset. Especially from this view inside your sisterâs house, itâs been a while since youâve worked around the ranch. No wonder your hands ache from all the work.
Malon had insisted on making dinner in which youâre thankful for that, you took a small glance seeing her chopping vegetables on the board - as insides of the pot boils. The sight could only make your mouth curved up into a smile.
Your eyes flickered back to the paper on the table before you, there was evident ink smudges - but it didnât make the words you wrote illegible. Writing letters has become a daily routine; with the Queen and additionally for him.
Folding the paper into half enough to fit inside the envelope. The postman always comes around - you reveled at the sight of Linkâs letter the first time but then a thought crosses through your mind on how the hell did the postman delivered a message across portals.
Youâll try to ask a question but youâre just glad to read about him faring well - especially not being alone this time. Placing the envelope to the side when you heard Malon calling you over for arranging the plates.
âAny progress from yer research?â She asked, wanting to spark up a conversation between the two of you. Malon sat down beside you, resting against her palm. âIt better be good, stayinâ inside that castle-â
You shrugged absentmindedly which could only make Malon glare at you, âIts a hefty progress - but with potential dangers along the way that is unfortunately hindering my work.â frowning at the thought of the forest being awfully quiet from one of your visits, which could only make you sigh. âItâs only my week break before I can go back to assist the royal family.â
âJusâ⌠donât overexert yerself.â she gently patted your back. âl-â she pointed to herself. âwill force yaâ outta that place if yaâ did.â momentarily moving the finger to you accusingly with a deep frown on her face.
âI know.â
Your father came around just in time for dinner - a heartwarming moment between your beloved family. Just missing someone important.
You just hope heâll be back sooner.
