Time for better statues & school names

Do they have statues of Adolf Hitler in Germany? Of course not!

Then why, oh why, do we have so many statues that honor the Confederate Army in the USA? After all, the Confederacy was made up of 11 traitorous states that split off from (i.e. tried to destroy) the United States rather than give freedom (along with life, liberty & the chance to pursue happiness) to the approximately 3.5 million enslaved people who lived there. (Read this for the problems on monuments and in textbooks about the history of the Confederacy.)

The statues are beginning to come down. Some people are pissed, but most are celebrating. Even direct descendants of Stonewall Jackson are calling for the removal of these ridiculous memorials to traitors.

But now we are going to have a lot of sad-looking, empty pedestals across the country. We need some new statues, because we need some real heroes.

I know a ridiculous amount of info about the American Revolution. (I wrote a trilogy about it, after all.) So today I threw together a quick list of Patriot dudes who fit the bill. (I’ll make another one soon composed of women.)

If your town needs a new statue, or you want to rename your school after someone who sacrificed for America instead of tried to rip it apart with hatred, this is a good place to start.

(Note - it turns out you can’t copy and paste from Word into Tumblr, so I’m going to post screen shots of my document. Grrr, Tumblr. Just grrr…)
