Goose emotionally neutering her cast makes TADC feel sanitized because her characters either have no reaction or tame ones, regardless of the situation. They're brain scans of human minds, so you would expect them to act human despite not being literal people.
In episode 5, Ragatha speaks about her mother's verbal abuse, and everyone except Jax stares at her. Even Pomni, who is supposed to be her best friend, stares in silence instead of comforting her. In episode 6, Ragatha is the only one bothered by Pomni’s friendship with Jax—she feels jealous and worries about Pomni's well-being while the other members don’t care. Pomni befriends Jax and indulges him, which should’ve become a bigger issue because she overlooks his abusive behavior since it doesn’t directly affect her. In the following episode, Jax is the only one affected by his fight with Pomni; he nearly abstracts over it, yet the show never mentions this significant moment again.
In episode 8, Zooble is the only one who cares about Jax pushing the red button and wanting to keep them trapped forever in the circus. However, Gangle and Pomni quickly quell their anger, acting as if being angry at him is “pointless” and insisting that sticking together matters more than ever. In the finale, when Jax mocks Ragatha’s abuse, Pomni comforts her, but she and no one else calls him out on his hateful remark. When Pomni enters Jax’s mind, she reacts little to his fantasies of strangling her, sexually harassing Gangle, and his confession of possibly committing matricide; she ignores all this and still tries to save him regardless.
I would've preferred all of the characters to be messy, have problems with each other and overcome them together instead of Goose emotionally castrating them to maintain a boring, unrealistic form of “peace.”
