Exactly one year ago, we meandered our way up the coast to spend the weekend with with Jono’s family, and celebrate his mum’s 60th birthday. We managed to fill our weekend with bundles of laughs and a whole array of beach activities, not minding the near consent rain, the wild early-summer thunder storms or the cooler temperatures to those we’d previously become accustomed to, living up north. Looking back on these photographs, knowing that this family is soon to be my family (legally), I feel blessed to have already been so welcomed, loved and supported unconditionally. I find comfort in the knowledge that someday when we have our own kids, they’ll have four wonderful cousins as role models, a fantastically fun aunt and uncle, and grandparents who will pass on the importance of kindness, humility and (possibly most important) how to catch their own dinner!

Today, there’s a warm breeze blowing up from the lake, reminding us that summer and the next lot of adventures, is just around the corner.

Last weekend, we took the boat out on the lake. Jono and Keith went fishing whilst I cooked lunch on the shore. Taking the opportunity to use the $6 Cannon camera I found on my last visit north, I tried to capture a few of the ordinary moments shared between my boys. This is what I came up with.

To celebrate the arrival of spring and the warmer weather, we decided to put down our “tools” and spend the weekend just up the road, at one of our very favourite camping spots. We fished and explored and rested, all the while reminiscing on shared & individual memories of this place, and the way it’s shaped the path we’ve both chosen to take.
