Milo: That bad, huh?

Bonnie: Tomorrow morning?

Lila: Early? I walk by there sometimes

Bonnie: Unless you know somewhere better

Bonnie: Everythings changed a lot

Lila: No that's good

Milo: Okay??? I guess???

Lila: Everything's gone to shit, trust me

Milo: I think you might be just a bit over dramatic

Milo: I'm going to be home in a few hours, can you do me q favor and not tell Mom and Dad? I want it to be a surprise

Lila: NO

Lila: You don't want to do that

Lila: Dad and mom aren't

Bonnie: We could get coffee?

Milo: GOOD

Milo: So, how are you? What have you been up to?

Lila: You really don't want to know

Lila: Everything is

Bonnie: I was wondering if you wanted to maybe meet up and talk?

Bonnie: If not I understand

*five minutes later*

Milo: One! Two! Three!

Milo: Anybody out there?

Lila: Milo oh my god

“Sometimes it’s harder to remember that than it should be.”

“You think?”

Bonnie wasn’t sure how to take her daughter’s response when she did receive it. She wanted to believe her, and on this occasion, she did, but that didn’t stop herself from wondering whether her daughter was lying to protect her, just as she had done so many times before. “I’m happy to hear that." 

“I’m glad.” There was a pause as the Bennett looked at her daughter, craving those memories now more than ever, and knowing just how impossible that might be. “How have you been by the way? I really haven’t gotten the chance to ask you.”

“Doesn’t make it any less embarrassing.” Bonnie replied with a smile of her own, trying to keep things light for both of their sake. “I can understand why.”

There was a moment of silence between the two before Bonnie asked “I’ve told you that before, haven’t I?”. It hadn’t occurred to her before, that while she blabbered on, she might very well be telling her daughter something she’d known for years. It was frustrating, and almost humiliating to consider, but she knew there was nothing she could do about it. Though, she  tried to push it aside, and couldn’t help but laugh and admit “I’m not even sure I want to imagine him with his top button undone. It’s like those suits are just a part of him.”

“I used to love it. Don’t tell anyone, but Grams wasn’t much of a cook.” Bonnie laughed gently, squeezing her daughter’s hand as she spoke. “Yeah, the grill isn’t really a suit and tie kind of place.”

“Had to be better than being in a box, right?”
